QUOTE(19th Century Indiana Jones @ Dec 10 2007, 03:54 PM) Have you ever felt this way? And if you did, what did you do? Have you ever regretted selling something even though it was for the right price at the time? If you felt like selling your ENTIRE collection at one time or another, was there at least one card you couldn't part with? I've felt like that tons of times, and all my friends try to push me towards selling my collection, asking why I want jerseys worn by old sweaty men when I can have thousands of dollars ....I don't care though, I just ignore them and enjoy my collection and the hobby I love. |

QUOTE(jaderock @ Jan 25 2008, 12:02 AM) Kyle...very interesting...here's an honest question...how in the world does a "normal" collector know what is real/fake?!? For example, where would you find the info for a real specimen? Well I actually would've NEVER known that jersey was fake since the only type of jerseys I consder myself as well-knowledged about is Atlanta Braves jerseys. I had heard that info about the Pujols jersey from a Cardinals expert who noticed everything that was wrong with that jersey. There's many ways you can tell if an MLB jersey is real or fake, but it all depends with the team and player. Each MLB team has certain tagging and certain players have certain customizations to their equipment. Everybody who wants to collect game used memorabilia HAS to learn these things if they want to know what is real and what is fake. I first started collecting game used 2 years ago, and I'm actually still learning more today about how to tell what is real from what is fake. But I personally like to be safe with everything I purchase, and 99% of my collection came from either the team directly or the players' marketing companies so I can buy direct from the players. |

QUOTE(jaderock @ Jan 24 2008, 09:55 PM) Kyle...is that all you have...gee whiz!!! Actually I hope I get a chance to read them because I have a piece that has his authentication on it and I see SEVERAL large AUCTION Houses that use him (almost exclusively)...which to me ask "are these sites trustworthy if you use a known "easy" authenticator. Thanks alot for the info...much appreciated lol well there's PLENTY more where that came from. Lampson is best known for working with Historic Auctions and American Memorabilia (and a few others). Very rarely will these two companies respond to messages or pull auctions that are eventually found to be fake. Last month, I bought a pair of Sammy Sosa homerun batting gloves from Historic Auctions, and it was going to come with Lampson's LOA. I made a post on GUF asking how I should destroy it (burn it or blow it up). Historic Auctions must've seen the post because when I got the gloves in the mail, it was missing the Lampson LOA |

QUOTE(jaderock @ Jan 24 2008, 05:43 PM) Do you have proof of this ... like a link to an article or webpage...I've seen his name used on several auction houses...in fact they use him ALOT...so I would be really interested in this information...thank you I can show a TON of proof....here is just a few of the many posts about Lampson on Game Used Universe: Fake Gregg Jeffries jersey authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...?t=13116&page=2Fake Wade Boggs jersey with numbers on front of jersey (not supposed to be there) authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=12489More info on the fakes authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ad.php?t=12517nPeyton Manning jersey w/o short sleeves authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=12409Fake Scott Rolen & Mike Piazza jerseys with the "0062" wash code sewn on top of seam instead of inside of seam: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=11939...and here's a random quote from a forum member about Lampson and the 0062 washing tags: "The 0062 is the pro code for game used jerseys, but keep in mind Lou Lampson will issue a cert for ANY jersey that has this code, no matter if its sewn on top of the seam or any other specifics of the shirt. Personally if Lou authenticated it, I dont want it." Fake Dan Marino jersey authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=11549Manny Ramirez game worn ROAD jersey signed and dated on a day that the Red Sox were at HOME. Plus the date tag is a YEAR OFF (a 2006 jersey, which was authenticated as being worn in 2007): http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=12013Here is a game worn helmet, authenticated by Lampson as being used by Buddy Groom, who was LEFT-HANDED, when the helmet is for a RIGHT-HANDED batter! http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=11678..and here is a post I made myself, where Lampson authenticated a pair of Andruw Jones 2000 All Star Game cleats, which were really just worn during the regular season: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=12143and possibly one of the biggest of all of Lampson's frauds: A UNC shooting shirt which was altered to become a Michael Jordan shooting shirt. Originally with "SMITH" on the back, someone altered it to have "JORDAN" and Lampson didn't even check to see if it was altered: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=10128A dumb mistake by Lampson, not knowing the difference between a 1999 and 2000 MLB jersey, which is really obvious since 2000 MLB jerseys have the MLB logo and 1999 jerseys do not: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=11534The same mistake with the MLB logos by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=11377Fake Bo Jackson Score Board jersey w/Lampson authentication: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=10367Fake Griffey Jr. jersey with the nameplate completely wrong. Griffey never wore a jersey with "GRIFFEY JR" yet this one does have that nameplate and Lampson deemed it as authentic: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=10005Fake tagging on a Vlad jersey, authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...ead.php?t=10019Fake Mike Schmidt jacket authenticated by Lampson: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/s...read.php?t=7318This list goes on and on and on and on. There are so many more posts on GUF about Lampson and all his fakes that he is authenticating. |

http://www.allauthentic.com/index.php?act=...ils&item_id=630Here's a link to video of a Pujols jersey being cut up, then offered for sale in a huge matted piece for $200. Only problem is, is that the jersey they cut up is fake. Here's the problems: All 2006 Pujols jerseys have a straight hem All 2006 Cardinals jersey have a year tag sewn to the majestic tag The alignment of the "5" with the nameplate is off All of these mistakes were noted by Cardinals jersey expert, Jeff Scott ( www.birdbats.com) Just a warning to collector's to watch out for this one |

For my hobby of game used memorabilia, what I enjoy most about it is the fact that you can simply get that piece of the game in your hands, PLUS fakes are harder to come by now. Wayyyy back then, there were Score Board jerseys which were made to have Set tags just like major league jerseys, and nobody knew if the jersey they had was game used or a replica scoreboard. Now, we have all these marketing companies so we can get game used direct from the players, plus there's MLB authentication, Steiner, MeiGray, etc. Also, I LOVE photomatches. I'm known on another website as the "photomatch king" (as they say) since I've been able to find photomatches for my memorabilia from the most smallest things like loose stitches and tiny itty bitty marks. I'm very specific with my photomatches. ###### I love this hobby |

QUOTE(yankeesr#1 @ Jan 23 2008, 09:17 PM) how are they made, does anyone know, does someone sit at a station and glue the jeresy on the card or what? I'm not sure if they're people in stations like you said, but I did take apart a few jersey and bat cards before, and they're usually like 3-4 layers and the memorabilia piece is on a little sticker so no glue is involved......it looks as if they just stick it right on there and piece the card together. |

Ever since 2005, I've been going to Braves games 5 hours early to meet players in the player-parking-lot so I've met plenty of players:
The nicest:
Blaine Boyer: Always signed and conversated with everybody. He signed so much, that one morning, he came over to sign, and nobody needed his autograph cuz everybody already had it!
Jeff Francoeur: He's very friendly and will sign for as many as possible. He's also very nice when it comes to pictures.
Bobby Cox: He signs literally every single morning when he arrives at Turner Field, and he'll sign for every single person there. He also conversates with fans about the team and things like that.
Tim Hudson: He'll sign a lot more than what you may think. He may not conversate with fans, but he'll still make sure everyone has an autograph.
Frank Thomas (the original one): He was a really nice guy when I met him about 3 years ago. He signed my picture, inscribed it to me with "Best Wishes", and I talked to him for a few minutes and he told me a story about how when he, Hank Aaron, Eddie Matthews, and Joe Adcock hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back homeruns in 1961.
Glenn Hubbard: He signs every single game and for every single person
John Smoltz: Twice a year, Smoltz will hold a canned food drive, where you donate 20 cans, and you get one autograph. Other than that though, he doesn't sign at all. But that's the main reason why thousands always come for the food drive.
Not so nice:
Andruw Jones: He won't sign for nothing! I've been waiting 2 years to have him sign my 2005 Braves team-signed banner, and I'm still missing his signature to this day. He was scheduled to appear at the 2007 Braves Fanfest, which I arrived 2 hours early to come meet him, and he ended up not showing up, just so he could make it early to the Super Bowl. What a jerk
Mike Hampton: I have never even once seen this guy sign an autograph while in a Braves uniform.
