Collector Zone _ Introductions _ Collecting interests

As another way to get to know everyone better, please share a little about your collecting interests.

Here's mine:

Overall:
Almost any sports cards, non-sports cards and collectibles

Players:
Kenyon Martin cards and collectibles
Roberto Clemente cards and collectibles

Teams:
Pittsburgh Pirates cards and collectibles
Pittsburgh Steelers cards and collectibles

I also collect cards from any NBA players who played at the Univ. of Cincinnati.

Overall:

- Pre-1930 tobacco cards that have eye-appeal and is within my financial reach

Players:

- affordable Mike "King" Kelly cards and collectibles (his stuff is PRICEY, ranging anywhere from hundreds of dollars to thousands)

- any Reggie Jackson cards and collectibles that deal with the 1977 World Series, specifically Game 6

Teams:

- 1977 Yankees

- I have obtained a team card of the 2004 Boston Red Sox; I am not a Boston fan, but I wanted it so it would remind me that "all things are possible when given enough time and patience"

Other:

- thoroughbred collectibles (need a 1978 Preakness Program to complete my 1978 Triple Crown set)

Posted by: jrlenox Apr 15 2005, 04:56 PM

My collecting interests are probably more philosophical than anything ...

I'd say my current collection is 85% baseball 10% non sport (Star Wars, vintage non-sport trading cards) and 5% sports other than baseball (hockey/football/basketball)

I've always loved the thrill of opening a new pack - no matter what it was .. and the potential of getting that 1:1000 insert card that would make your return on investment so worthwhile.

I also like trying to assemble vintage sets, sport and non-sport, for the least money possible. I like the idea of "re-uniting" cards in a set and wondering who has owned them over the years .. some 12 year old buying some bubble gum in the 50's .. and it surviving in a suburban attic for years. And on the same note I'm probably unlike most collectors today in the fact that I like lesser grade vintage cards .. they have more character. My best find was an ebay auction for '61 topps cards at $20 that had literally been through the bicycle spokes .. but included the Maris,Mays and lots of high numbers.

If there's any modern set that I'm trying to complete it's the 2001 Topps Baseball Gold (#'d to 2001). It represents the year I got seriously back into card collecting ,the golden anniversary of the brand of my childhood, and something about the knowledge that only 2001 sets could every be reassembled .. and the number diminishes each time another collector in Japan frames the Ichiro rookie card on his wall or another kids' mom throws out the shoebox with the lucky results a few packs of cards bought at 7-11 for $.99 each.

The first player I collected all cards from was Bob Watson - because of his guest appearance in the Bad News Bears movie and the "Let them Play" chant at the Astrodome. Who knew that he would be the MLB disciplinarian .

I was also a Willie Randolph fan growing up .. and will one day collect all his cards .. and now that he's manager of the mets there will be all those manager cards and team checklists to find ...

I know .. pretty odd .. but I like it .. and one day I will trade or sell off the lot for pretty cheap and just keep a few "prized" possessions .. because I hate lugging them around whenever I move ... Ha! I got stopped by airport security last time I flew home to England after staying at my dad's in NJ because I had about 100 cards from the 50's in top loaders loose in my carry-on. The security gaurd kept calling over his friends to check out the players .. and I nervously let them go through them all ... good thing there was no one there from customs wink.gif

It could have been worse - they could have been baseball card collectors who required a 'bribe'. tongue.gif

I collect mostly Nascar cards especially Jeff Gordon and Hendricks motrosports teammates. I have been getting some packs of football/baseball/hockey...just to see what i get. I really would like to get some of those 1 for 1's of famous americans....they are seem like a great set and i hope they continue with the american greats.

Posted by: meuandthelot Apr 16 2005, 05:53 PM

My order...#1-NFL-2.NHL-3.MLB-4.NBA-Racing, etc

I also collect with a nostalgic mind-set, but really like the quality of the modern issues as well.
I really enjoy the photo's on the cards EX: I have a 1999 Ultra #68 Favre displayed on my shelf, so I guess BV really isn't an issue...Lol
One thing I don't do is chase the hot players..I pretty much look for the diamond in the ruff type players(all sports) or just pick up a lower-end Rc. of the Gotta have's, like Ichiro, Pujols, LeBron, etc..

And like jrlenox..I'd never trade my 1960's-70's flip cards. They stayed in in my pocket & in rubber bands most of the season wink.gif

Eventually I'd like to focus on the Pinnacle,Aurora,Pacific, and perhaps Ionx prism types of cards...When the sun hits those cards they GLOW!! Plus with the prices for HOF G/U(even some auto's) I will always pick them up..Just haven't decided what direction to take with these.

Man, I guess I collect a little of everything. smile.gif

I collect football and baseball exclusively.....I was raised around football and baseball my whole life and never really developed an interest in NBA or non-sports collections. I have, however, recently started putting together some golf cards since the golf course became my home away from home and work. As far as specific players are concerned, I've always been interested in any Cowboy cards and Steeler cards from the 70's. As big as the rivalry was back then, I still managed to grow up as a Cowboys fan in the NFC and a Steelers fan in the AFC. My favorite piece of baseball memoribilia that I have actually had nothing to do with sports until I got it signed. I had the opportunity to meet Nolan Ryan in Round Rock TX right after the new baseball stadium for the "Ryan Express" was finished. I had him sign the back of one of my business cards from the police department that I was working for at the time. I have that business card framed with a picture of Nolan Ryan hanging in the den and I think it is probably my most prized collectors item. I've sent a few cards to different teams in the past and have received some back......most of the ones I have gotten back were from obscure players such as Steve Avery with the Braves and David Nied with the Rockies. I've got a few others back but those are the ones that come to mind. The new "auto" inserts and memoribilia inserts are interesting to me now, especially since they are getting easier to come by. My goal is to one day pull a "1/1" but so far the best I've been able to do is two "1/25" cards.

I collect hockey

Specifically:
(1) Colorado Avalanche base/parallels/inserts/autos. Trying to get a card of every player to ever play for the Av's pictured in the colorado sweater.
(2) Hockey pucks from Colorado teams past and present.
(3) Commemorative hockey sticks (full-size)
(4) The occassional card of Boston Bruins defensemen
(5) Occassional card of NHL rookies

I don't collect the "GU" stuff (sigh mellow.gif , all that great stuff torn to shreds...)

Posted by: BaltimoreFan4Life Apr 28 2005, 11:00 AM

I am 100% in to my baseball cards. I collect mainly Oriole cards as well as their minor league teams. Last year I decided to start putting 1 set of a Topps product together. That last one year, I guess being deployed for 6 months put a damper on me completing the set. This year I am putting 4 sets together. How I went from 1 to 4 I am not sure!! Baseball cards are the only hobby I really have. Its also my stress reliever at some times. smile.gif

Posted by: finestkind Apr 29 2005, 12:26 AM

I'm a set builder of Topps baseball sets from 1975 thru 1995. I'm also working on a 1967 baseball set. I have about 10 more cards I need on that. I've been working on that set for about 10 years. Some times I think I'm getting too picky. I'm also working on a 1975-76 Topps hockey set and 1979-80 Topps basketball set and a 1971 Topps football set.
I also collect pre-war cards of sports players named Hogan. I have about 25 or so from different sets. I find them mostly on Ebay and card shows. I don't get to many shows. I like the bigger shows, there's not many around any more.
I have some newer cards that I use for trading from all 4 sports. I still like vintage cards the most. I'm 47 years old and live in the Boston Mass area.

I collect mainly Hockey and Football, and very little baseball.

No favorite players in any sport. I like all the superstars, but I also really admire the guys who do it all and do not get noticed. Troy Brown of the Patriots comes to mind from this year's football, when he played both defense and offense.

I am mainly starting to just focus on RCs, and vintage cards when I can find them affordably. I love to complete sets when I start a product (usually just the base set anymore). I like vintage players game used cards, in the beleif that there will not be as many of their jerseys to cut up for cards. Those jerseys also seem to have a nostalgic texture (tan or grey "white" uniforms, they look used! LOL) when compared with modern day jersey cards.

If anyone has vintage hockey (50's to 70's) they do not want let me know.

Good luck if you are pack busting!

Just started collecting cards, so i'd have to say I'm collecting Ed Belfour, Dan Cloutier, and any current Leafs players. Also interested in very nice RC's and patches.

Posted by: drw19fan Oct 28 2005, 11:53 AM

Hi all. New here, wanted to share my interests.
I have always been a collector of Hockey cards starting around '79-'80. I remember buying packs of Gretzky's RC year for $.25.
Now that I've aged myself somewhat...
I love the feeling of buying boxes and just bustin' away... brings me back to simpler times. Even when I do not get the pulls I was looking for it's still fun.
At one time I was 80% hockey, 10% baseball, 10% football. Now it's all hockey. So I do have some other sports to trade as well.
I have focused my collection on Steve Yzerman cards. And with buying all those boxes for all these years, I have much to trade for Stevie Y.
I have taken some years off here and there, but..." evertime I think I'm out, they pull me back in..."

Nice to be back, and I look foward speaking with/dealing with you!

Anything featuring or related to Steve Garvey. I offer this challenge to any members, new and old:

Offer me anything Garvey related that I don't have...as long as it's not one of the brand new products (although I will want those, as needed, as well)...with a reasonable offer and we will strike up a deal.

Anyone who can come up with a card or related collectible item I still need, I will offer a prize. This excludes newspaper photos, articles, etc. I am looking for regular issue and oddball cards and similar collectibles (although, once again I will take anything I don't have). For example, the 1972 Topps Venezualen Garvey stamp. A short wantlist is featured on my ebay "me" page. My ebay ID is...yes you guessed it, mrmopar.

I also collect Dodgers in general and will trade team for team with people. I'd also take FB Raiders and Vikings in team for team trades.

Lastly I collect signed trading cards. Any sport, just about any players. I prefer older cards (vintage if you will). I especially like the Topps All Rookie Team cards (trophy) and Brooklyn Dodgers.

This is not inclusive of my collecting habits, but those are my top 3 focuses. I have collected all 4 major sports at times, plus some others and non-sports to a small degree.

Oh, one other thing...I love oddball items. If you have something unique, odd shaped, unknown to you, whatever and you want to ID it or get rid of it, let me know. I might be able to help! Happy Trading.

My new collecting love: 2001 Private Stock Deltha O'Neal GU cards

I'm a Bengals fan (because of the uniform colors smile.gif ) I was their fan back when they were in the Super Bowl against the 49ers. And a big blow was struck when we lost Tim Krumrie early in the game.

So now, going back to my favorite childhood team, I found a player (and card) that has eye appeal (at least to me) and affordable to collect. While Carson and Chad get all the attention, I found a league leader on the other side of the ball. Two-thirds of the season has gone by and Deltha is the leading interceptor. I used to collect Dave Klinger, but his career is null.

Deltha is one of the guys that have made the bengals defense what they are, my fav is Madieu Williams (Maryland) too bad he got bite by the injury bug!

#1 - Will Clark cards

#2 - Autographs, mainly in-person (always nice to have a story with it).

#3 - Pressed pennies (the ones you smoosh in machines that imprint images onto the smooshed penny).

Yeah, Bengals have a very nice secondary overall. Those guys are outstanding against the pass. But I think their line needs an anchor, some dominant DE or monster NT, someone overpowering for a passrush. Man, I'm so depressed. Yesterday I thought they were going to overtake Indianapolis at one point. So close...... mad.gif

Thats different and cool ... I remeber getting one at Mt Rushmore a long time ago. Have no idea where it ended up. nifty machines where you put in a penny + some other amount like a quarter and you get back the smooshed penny.

Do you have any favorites ?

I had always picked one up here and there, but never really thought about collecting them much - until I went to Disneyworld on my honeymoon. They had the machines EVERYWHERE, and nifty books to keep them in! Needless to say I drove my wife nuts and filled up 3 books (I think each one holds about 40-50, including quarters). Ever since then everywhere I go I look for them, and when anyone I know goes somewhere I tell them to look for me. biggrin.gif

I don't know if I really have a favorite. I'd have to look through them again and decide. wink.gif

Posted by: Daze_fan Nov 22 2005, 10:05 AM

Hello, My name is Jeff. (daze_fan). some of you know me from other sites, and some of you may know/remember me as J.E.LEW from the old Sports card forum. Yes, I was a moderator there for the first year of it's existence, and the !st Mod along with Iggy. well, times change and so do people, ( some for the worse!)

I've been collecting for 30+ years, and am a former shop owner in the mid-late 90's. I always saw myself as a collector first then a hobby dealer. I dont buy any new product anymore, and have been basically trading on-line for the last 3+ years with the old stock from my shop. lol.
I do buy a pack or two here and there, but most of the cards I have from 2001 til now are from trades or single card purchases on Ebay or from other collectors for my Personal collection.
This may change as my son is starting to get interested in cards and sports a little more, so we'll see.

My main collecting interest is Hockey and Vintage before 1975.
(hockey up to 1988)But I do collect a few Individual Players also.
John Elway ( I'm a life long Broncos fan)
Eric Daze ( hence, my screen name)
Michael Barrett ( My wife actually collect him)
Bob Probert ( one of my favorite all-time hockey players)

My favorite teams are the Cubs,Blackhawks,Broncos and Chicago Wolves(AHL).
I'm not a basketball fan at all, but I do have several nice basketball cards in my PC (Maravich, Bird/magic Rc)
I do have an interest in Vintage Basketball cards from before 1971.
The Oldest cards by sport I have are: baseball, A few T206 w the best being the Addie Joss Portrait.. Hockey, I have several 1933 OPC series a cards.. basketball, 1948 Leaf Eddie Ehlers, and in Football 1948 Leaf Marlin Harber.
Not much compaired to many other collections that amass tons of pre-war cards, but I'm happy with them.
This is'nt my life, like some people get into it, This is a relaxing Hobby for me. I hate the Stuffy, obnoxious, greedy collector that has to flaunt every single card they get in there hands, and that have attitude where your stuff stinks, mines better. ( Idid'nt know that collecting became a race all of a sudden! I'm not made of money, I work for a living, Besides, you cant take it with you!

well, sorry for babbling, hope to make several trades here take care.

Jeff

Posted by: Bondsaway Nov 22 2005, 10:21 AM

Jeff,
Glad to have you here. Its refreshing to hear a former shop owner that knows the difference between the business and collecting sides. Good to see others who still believe in having fun with collecting. Too many people just want only the best cards they can get their hands on. BTW thats not collecting that greed. If you have any questions or problems (problems send them to me I don't bite but have 3 little boys who would) just ask.
Happy hunting and have fun!

Hi,I just found this. My name is coinman as I do not collect any cards except for 1 the 1971 topps card coin checklist.I like to frequent sports shows looking for plastic tin & aluminium coins of sports and non sports from the 1930's to 1990. They came in coffee, tea, jello, potato chip bags hotdogs,
cereal boxes, popsicles . About 98 percent of shows mostly have square shiney stuff for sale, not to many coins. Most sets are from the 60's like the shirriff/salada and topps BB - 1960 to 69 shirriff/salada hockey coins - 63 & 64 nalley potato chips CFL coins -space magic & space orbit space coins- jets- fish- flags- ships - dogs etc.I also try to find any coins still in their cello wrap or packages that are unopened with the coins still inside like the jello with the car or plane coins inside. Would be nice to find a hockey coin jello box sometime. There has to be 1 or 2 card collectors here that may have some kind of coin along with all their cards ? I hope for a contact, Thanks coinman.

echunks: nice list on the weblink! I'll be sending an e-mail.

Everyone else: I collect current Atlanta Falcons, tough to find previous players from 1990 to present. (Jamie Dukes all) I still need a couple of 1973 Topps Kung Fu cards to finish that set, a 1995 Pro Line auto of Michael Irvin and Eric Zeier and the autograph set will be done! Making a set of 2001 Ultra Gold Medallion baseball, and I'm looking for 1997 UD Legends autos for someone else. Lastly, looking for autos/game used of Sid Fernandez (Mets) but will take any team uniform.

http://cardsnstuff.beckett.com until end of January. My stuff will eventually be listed on Sportlots and then on www.mvick7.com. E-mail me at cardsnstuffny@yahoo.com

Hi, I am a almost recently beginner in collecting trading cards. My goal is to try to collect as much cards as I can of players born or descendant of parents from the Dominican Republic, mainly the vintage one. For recent players my favorites are minors, first and second year cards (base, relic, auto, etc....). I collect most cards of:

Juan Marichal
Felipe Alou
Sammy Sosa
Pedro Martinez
Vladimir Guerrero
Albert Pujols
Alex Rodriguez
Manny Ramirez

As the number of players is increasing each year, I posted a web page where I list all the player I know and list their card, including those that I have in my collection and those that I want. The address is:

Collectart1959.tripod. com

I hope I can trade with anyone having cards from those players. I have a lot of card to trade both sport and nonsports and from almost all sports. Part of my inventory is being selling at sportlots, but I have much more cards that are not listed. Thanks I hope to hear from you soon. Cesar.

Hi everyone.

I have a varied assortment of cards I collect.

When I first started really getting into cards I collected mainly baseball (Ken Griffey, Jr to be exact) , then I started getting some football and even a few hockey and basketball.
Now I'm more interested in getting football than anything, but I still collect baseball as well.

As far as who I collect, I usually stick w/ RC's from Seattle (Seahawks, Sonics and M's) and then RC's who are hot, going to be hot etc.
Sometimes there is no method to my madness, other times there is.

Shaun Alexander is the #1 player I try and collect now followed by RC's and inserts of Felix Hernandez of the M's and up and coming stars who are also with my Seattle teams.

I could go on and on, but I wont.

(after reading this mess, I'm not sure that anyone will even understand it .. blink.gif )

My tobacco phase is on hold for now. My T206 Cardinals team set is complete, as is my T206 double-breasted jacket subset.

I have moved on to collecting more contemporary cards, mostly Cincinnati Bengals team sets (base) and star players (G-U/AU). I am currently concentrating on building a Jim Breech Master set and it looks like I’ve stumbled upon a roadblock because it seems no one has those Panini stickers.

My collecting interests are 99.9% Philadelphia Flyers.

My main collection is Flyers authetic autograph cards. Past and present players, as long as they are in Flyers uniform.

I also collect Flyers game-used cards. I'm looking for 3 of each card. One with an orange swatch, one with a white swatch, and one with a black swatch.

Those are my two main interests, but I collect pretty much anything with a Flyers logo on it. McFarlanes, SLU's, Headliners, Bobbleheads, auto'd 8x10's, the list is endless!

Ok i'll leave my mark here too....I'm collecting ALL MVP set from 98-99 to 05-06 and after if there is other...and when i say ALL it's ALL from the common to the xx/25 parallele including GU and AU but at this time i'm limiting myself to Hockey (ok it's around 9000 cards to get so i have alot of work to do only in this sport). I do some other set also as a sideline... rolleyes.gif some have named me the MVPmaniac i don't know why....

Posted by: AlexFrolovFan Feb 14 2006, 12:23 PM

Overall:
NHL!!!
I am obsessed with th LA Kings and I have an official Kings rookie collection, from the day they came into the league (1967-68) to present.
(King draft picks and rookies only... not just any guy that played for them)
There are a total of 504 official rookies up until 2005.. and I'm still missing 3 (as I cry)
I'm also collecting all future rookies.. this year I'm chasing Parros to add to my RC collection...

I also started a Panther & Blackhawks RC collection... (I know, I know, I have issues HAHA)

Players I collect religiously:
Marcel Dionne
Dave Taylor
Luc Robitiaille
Paul Coffey

Teams:
KINGS in general: (I'm have folders & folders of base cards, inserts, game used that I will give my brother when he turns 21 - which is still 10 yeas away)
I'm more like a mother than a sister, we are 21 years apart, so my collection will go to him if he remians a Kings fan... (I hope he won't become a Dallas Stars fan, he leaves in Texas HAHA)

Posted by: Phigagne Feb 14 2006, 03:56 PM

Well obviously im a Flyer Fan, im also a very big fan of the LA Kings... i collect Official Rookies of Young Guys i like for various reason...

i also do sets here and there, Base, Rookie, Inserts just to keep from boredom, as rookies arent always the easiest to pick up... i used to collect Gagne & Palffy(basically how i got into the kings) but i gave up the player collecting as there are just parallels of everything anymore and it makes it impossible to ever come close to picking them all up... atleast with sets and Official rookies there is a ending point to the madness...

i think i do more trading to pick up stuff for my friends than i do myself but that is half the fun... i love finding a rare card i know a friend needs just as much as do for myself...

Thanks

Kingfish,

DO you collect the french players like Tony Parker, Mickaël Piétrus or Boris Diaw?!?

Posted by: KHarmon Feb 23 2006, 04:40 AM

I have modified my collecting interests to a point over the recent months. At one time I was collecting Rangers, Cowboys, Nolan Ryan and ANYTHING THAT CAUGHT MY EYE. Now, I'm focusing mainly on certain players (Teixeira, Ryan, Young, and Nix) but still have an interest in others as time and money affords it. I've also added John Mayberry JR to my collecting interests. I don't think I'll ever change my interest in Cowboys or focus on certain players considering how crazy the trades go in the NFL....and now that there's talk of a possible strike in the 07 season...I'm going to be a lot more reserved in my approach to collecting any football.

Posted by: SpireiteRachel Feb 26 2006, 10:46 AM

Sports card wise I collect Soccer ones of my favourite players, then NBA ones of Kevin Garnett and other Timberwolves ones, Stephon Marbury and ex Duke players especially Shane Battier.

I also collect alot of TV show/Movies ones like the CSI's and 24, which I tend to buy boxes of. as i want the whole set biggrin.gif

I also collect little football (soccer) figures called Microstars and other figures of players I like.

I think I remodified. Prewar vintage is on hold. Waiting for that one King Kelly card to surface when I have the funds. I am halfway there to getting the necessary funds.

Bengals patch cards (the logo stripe ones) are pretty attractive, at least to me. I'll see what Bengal team sets I can build for 2006. If there is an AU/GU as base, I will build that team set.

I used to go pretty heavily after sports cards, but burned out about 15 years ago, although I would not mind finishing a couple of sets. But my main focus not is non sports, primarily pre-1960, especially Pre-WWII. Within that, I am probably most interested in T cards. I am working on master sets on some of the T issues (combinations of all fronts and all backs). The biggest one of these is T59 Flags of All Nations, where I need about 2500 more examples.

Obsessed is probably a better word laugh.gif we have over a hundred of his autos, I think every memorabilia piece ever issued, and I don't know how many different game-used and other cards? I think Sandy's favorite item is the broken game-used bat she got him to sign.

Hello all,

I am cajunfuji. I collect almost everything as far as cards. Mainly baseball and football. I also have a good bit of basketball, hockey, boxing, wrestling, non-sports, you name it. I have recently retired from the Navy and moved back home to Louisiana. Just in time to meet Ms. Katrina and Rita. Anyway I am just now getting around to unpacking and organizing my cards. I am putting a collector room together. I look forward to dealing with you all.

Hey guys this sight was recommended to me so I figured I would give it a try, as far as collecting goes I was a pack buster of any sport for about 14 years I accumulated alot of cards but so many of them held no interest for me, at the first of the year I deceided to collect only former UGA players and Falcons, past and current. I am a huge sports fan, especially football, but I really enjoy the hobby and enjoy helping others improve their collection I just recently gave away all my cards that were not in my PC. Some people say I was crazy for doing that but I actually enjoyed it, I figured why keep these cards in boxes taking up space in my "sports room" when there are people out there that would really enjoy these cards. Well I certanly look forward to talking to each of you and possibly making a few trades that will make everyone happy. Thanks.

Wow, some really great reads in this thread...

My General Interests: I collect only baseball cards, currently have about 60 player collections of current stars and past hof'ers (Clemens, Kaline, I. Rodriguez, Maris, etc). But my true passion is my Jeremy Bonderman collection. I started collecting Jeremy's cards in early 2003 which was his rookie year with the Tigers. This collection started out with a single 2003 Topps Bazooka rookie card that I pulled from a pack. After looking over the info on the card I decided I'd add Jeremy to the list of players I collect. Prior to getting this first Bonderman card I knew nothing about him. I began watching the 2003 season and the more I saw Jeremy pitch the more impressed I became. By the middle of the 2003 season I had put together about 70 different cards. What started out as just an addition to my other player collections was quickly becoming an obsession.

I had now drastically slowed down on buying any other cards other than Jeremy (other than the occasional card here and there, sometimes you just can't resist the urge). My goal was/is to build the most complete Jeremy Bonderman collection in the world, the "Ultimate Bonderman Collection". I have been on a non-stop search ever since, scowering every possibility for a new card to add. Frequenting places like eBay, Beckett, Naxcom, Yahoo, various trading forums, etc.

As of June 1st, 2006 I have amassed 680 different Jeremy Bonderman cards, giving me 89% of his total cards produced. This includes: 72 different true 1/1's, 81 game-used jersey/bat cards, 104 certified autographs, 51 game-used jersey/bat autograph cards, and 15 press plates. If you'd like to see my collection check out my site in my Sig.

I was reading this thread and thought I'd add mine.

I have a unique collection and have had fun with it over the last six years.

I put together draft albums and college alumni albums.

For the draft albums, I put two cards for each draft pick (one in his college uniform and one of their rookie cards). The challenge for this has become that not all draft picks immediately produce cards. The only album close to being complete is my 1996 draft album. (as time goes on I'll be asking for help)

For my collegiate albums, I put a card of each player (in college uniform) of each roster for each year. I have a roster album for every college in Division I and have started working on Division II and III. As you could probably imagine; the challenge has been that not every player turns pro or they end up in the lesser known leagues (ie: Arena, Europe, etc.); therfore, they never have a college card produced.

God Bless Presspass and Sage Hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Thanks
Charles

I collect Lions.

Well......

Barry Sanders.

Like "Jaderock" I'm sorta infatuated with getting as many different cards as possible. blink.gif

However, Jaderock has the best player collection known to man. biggrin.gif

IMO

I have a ton of Charlie Batch, Germane Crowell, and Herman Moore.

Joey Harrington.....maybe 20 cards.

I KNEW HE WAS GOING TO STINK!

Charles "Zig Zag" Rogers...
Mike "I shoulda stayed at USC" Williams...

Just don't see a future for those two. mad.gif

Kevin Jones is going to be great this year. smile.gif

I bought a few of his cards, but sold them when he had his great 7 game stretch.

I also collect "Uncanny X-men" comics. I have almost all from #100-#325.

I really enjoy this site, and appreciate the information on "the dishonest..." at the "bay".

Posted by: StroBro Oct 14 2006, 05:05 PM

my collection interest it mainly baseball cards.

player cards of bagwell, ripken, jeter, clemens, vlad, and brogna.

those arent the only ones but those would be at the top. others would be

smith, puckett, sandberg, mattingly...maybe a few more.

i dont collect based on price, or even how the cards look. my favorite bagwell cards are common cards, i couldnt part with them because the way he looks in the card is just indescribable. and i collect based on names. those names just pop off the page. or screen...or card. im not crazy about memorabilia, or even todays market cards. i dont have any from 2001 til today...no pujols..soriano, cabrera, whoever else might be hot...prior? or maybe he used to be. they are great fantasy sports grabs..but that is as far as my interest in them goes. i probably wont buy any new boxes to acquire any of them either..the way i look at cards today isnt the same as when i first began collecting. especially since all the GU and Auto cards are everywhere now...im taking a sort of ignorant stand on the way cards are produced today. but in my opinion the very fact that every player every where has GU cards and stuff that is guaranteed to be included in a box of cards that are priced over $200.00 is for the collector that is looking for a return on his investment through selling the cards he gets. and that to me takes all the value out of the cards you can get, and even the GU cards i could get...i just wouldnt see them as being any sort of collectors item since everyone that collects gets the same thing. its almost so over done in my opinion it waters that whole aspect down to zero...atleast for me. if you can put your mind around the idea of GU...there are cards out there valued at $10.00? or less...i mean thats ridiculous...in my opinion. ive got handfuls of inserts that come no where near the kind of significance those cards should have but are 5 times more valuable?

but i guess the last thing i can say is im not someone who will look at a bagwell GU or any astro...or any player i named above and not take interest. i just doubt i would have anything in return of the same value. but yea im just a simple card collector..looking to collect...and not for a return.

Posted by: rikostan Oct 16 2006, 04:57 PM

I collected cards a lot during the late 70s all the way up to the mid 90s, but I stopped about 1995 or so. At the time I collected anything and everything I could get my hands on, but just a couple of years after my first kid was born, I stopped.

Now I am back! smile.gif I am going to be more picky this time around though. I am a huge Chicago Bears fan. I have been since I was 4 years old, 34 years ago, so now I am just going to focus on the Bears and that's it. I currently have just about every Bears card released from 1995 back to 1972 except for some of the inserts from the later years.

Football was always My focus, but I am going to be getting rid of all my non-bears cards and all of those cards from other sports and the oddball stuff too.

I saw that you collect Kenyan Martin stuff. I was able to get his autograph this past summer on an index card at a charity baseball game in Frisco Texas. It was for Mike Madono's Hero's game. If you are interested I am trying to trade some things that I don't want for credit toward 1970 - 1976 Topps sets, or one of the following cards

2000 Press Pass Signings of Dale Earnhardt Sr.
1994 SPX Alex Rodriguez Rookie
or USFL Rookie Card of Jim Kelly.

If you have any of these and are willing to trade please let me know.

I collect sports autographs and have a store. I am now trying to get into cards.

Welcome to the site...hope we can help in your search of needs!!!

I love the Pacific Titanium Jersey sets (single and Dual jersey/patches) - it's one of my favorites! Do you have a wantlist or a trade list from the set?
*

Thanks. I'm not actually collecting the Titanium jersey set, just copies of the 2002 Lamar Gordon Jersey card. He went the the same school as me in college, and he was a very impressive player. So, I collect the cards of his I like the looks of best, which are the Sage autos and the Titanium jersey imho.

I'm actually hoping to find a tip on anyone who deals in tracking down very hard to find cards. I've done all the research I can online and in my area and there is nothing. I need someone with contacts everywhere who looks for specific cards all the time.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome.

I'm a big collector of players from Nebraska. There is over 475 players that have some type of card out there. There is over 10,000 diff cards that I have on my list and I know there is more. I have collected a little over 4200 of them. Most of these players are commons only a few are considered stars or semi-stars. I have been doing a lot of bulk trading taking any/all cards even doubles making it easier on you to pull them.
I' tring to do this very large job on a small budget and with little time on this hobby.

I have been asking people to e-mail me at jdbudler@msn.com because of the time. I check in the boards only on weekends and some time in the evening if I have a post or trade going on.

I have no site but do have a list of what I have to trade and Nebraska players names.

Thanks Jim

Hello!

I have been collecting Mike Piazza cards/collectibles for around ten years now. I took a long break from collecting though during college and am trying to get back into it now. My goal is to have at least one copy of each Piazza card, and so far I'm 25% there!

Since I have not collected in a while, I don't have much to trade, but you never know. Especially if you're looking for anything from the 90s and before the big game used boom.

I just got in to collecting cards again (after about 20 years off... and I'm only 30). I was spending alot of time on some of the NFL message boards earlier this season, and someone posted a picture of a Peyton Manning card that he wanted to show off, and it got me interested again.

I'll admit, I have very little knowledge of what constitutes a "valuable" card, but I do know what sorts of cards I want and right now that's all that matters to me... I'm hoping to learn a little bit more here though. I'm interested mostly in collecting football cards, pretty much any team, but all the better if I can get my hands on some good Colts cards.

I would like to get some Pacers cards (past or present, definitely would like to get a few Reggie Miller cards), or any former Boilermaker players in the NFL or NBA.

Welcome to the site...glad you're interested in the hobby again.

The advise I have for you is:

Take you TIME...the sportscard market is gutted with so many cards that on any given day there are tons of bargains to be had...Miss one - don't worry...miss another - don't worry.

Continue to downsize your collecting "wants/niche" so that the money you have can be geared towards "quality cards".

If you want something specific, then DO NOT by Packs/Boxes...that's the biggest "risk" of them all.

Posted by: tex333 Mar 21 2007, 12:06 AM

Rule# one: :Dont take any Ian Kinsler stuff off the market.
rule# two: If you get any kinslers PM me.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I was actually considering buying boxes and packs to "better my odds" of finding what I want. I think right now I'm gonna just sort of lurk around in here and read some threads with more experienced collectors just to learn a little bit more. I did buy a few packs today just for the fun of it... I didn't get anything really good, but the fun of bringin' em home and opening them up was worth it. smile.gif

Hey all, I'm brand new to the site and coming back to collecting cards after a "pause" of about 2 years.

I thought this thread would be a good opportunity to introduce myself and get to know some of you guys around here. Very interesting reading, I absolutely love to read about people's collections, their peculiarities, how they started collecting in the first place and what's the main fuel to their passion for collecting.

Overall:
I have tons of cards from all 4 main sports, non-sports and CCGs, so my collection is pretty varied.

Players:
Cards from the Brazilian players of the NBA (Nene, Anderson Varejao, Leandro Barbosa, Rafael Araujo, etc). Brazil is my country of birth though nowadays I live in the US.
HOFers from the 4 main sports

Teams:
Chicago Bulls
New York Yankees
San Francisco 49ers

Non-sports cards:
Star Wars cards and prints.
LOTR cards and prints.
Disney.
Comics related cards (Marvel, DC for the most part).
Some CCGs, such as World of Warcraft.

Hope to trade a lot of stuff with you guys smile.gif

Hello All,

My football card collection is pretty much limited to the Chicago Bears, I’ve been a Bear’s fan my whole life, as was my father and grandfather.

I’ve been collecting hockey cards on and off since about 1963. A few years ago I thinned the collection out. Now it just HOF’ers and future HOF’ers. I do have a lot of hockey memorabilia but it’s more of an accumulation than a collection. I started collecting pucks and schedules from Arizona (Yes, there has been hockey in Arizona since the 50’s) hockey teams few years ago.

The only Baseball, Basketball and non Bears football cards I have are just for investment or trading.

After collecting for many years growing up, I am now back into it thanks to my 11 year old. This is the first year that I have been back into cards since 91 or 92. My how things have changed!

Currently, my main interest is Hockey, then Basketball. I may dabble into baseball this year. Not really sure. Funny thing is, my main interest is in a sport that I never played (except on the street).

I was born and reared in the 'Burgh, so I am interested in all things Black and Gold (Pens, Steelers, and Pirates).

My collecting interests have taken a complete 180 degree turn.

Right now and this is probably what my collecting interests will be here on out (with the occasional pick up of cards I like of a player I don't collect)

Overall:
Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish football players

Players:
Mainly Brady Quinn (anything of his), but I'll trade for any other ND grad as long as their card has a picture of them in their ND uni and/or Senior bowl jsy. As long as it's related to college I'll trade for it. I'm mainly a lower end collector, because I don't have to pockets for mid to high end stuff.

Teams:
Notre Dame
(Not very much anymore, but from time to time) Dallas Cowboys

Hello:

I've been collecting for over 30 years.

I was one of the original "online" member of Becket.com, and was very disappointed when the B uy/Sell/Trade area went away.

I have over 1000 different Kirby Pucket cards, and over 650 different Cal Ripken Jr. cards.

My current collecting interests are trying to get at least one rookie card of every player who has played at least one regular season game for the Minnesota Twins.

I'm also trying to collect at least one card of every player who has played in a regular season game for the Minnesota Wild. If the player did not have a Minnesota Wild card, their rookie cards suffice.

You can see some of the cards I have available at www.geocities.com/dembouski

but a better bet would be to email me at markd@undalumni.org

Thanks!

Mark D.

Ok, I finally wandered into this topic. Used to be a set-builder in Hockey and Football, that became real frustrating (UD especially a pain in 90s Hockey). Then I kinda switched gears to an AU collector, why I have some baseball and basketball. Stumbled on this site searching web on Starting Lineups (have some taking up too much room). Now I got the "bug" again, and wish this was around back in the 90s (hockey collectors few and far between in Oregon). I like the idea of trading things of similiar value for something I would love to have even more. Trying to get some base cards of Oregon State and even Oregon Football players since I have been out of the hobby since 1999, as I may start doing my TTM AU's again, that and I seem to be leaning towards Oregon State players (for the moment anywa).
Bucket is a work in progress, but it's starting to look kinda like one anyway laugh.gif

See you all around,

Hi, everyone. Glad to be a new member of this exciting site. I have been collecting NASCAR for over 20 years and kind of got a little bored with it, so now i am mainly focusing on baseball. My main interest are the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians.Yes, i know its weird to pull for two teams in the same division, but there spring training complexes are both within 15 minutes from my house. I have grown to know many of the players from both teams, and there for feel like I have somewhat of a connection with them.
As far as sets go I'm currently trying to get all of the 2006 topps updates and highlights game used all-star jersey cards. I currently have 10/62 of the set. I decided on this set because i really liked the look of the cards and i had a good start from several blaster box pulls.
The players i prefer to collect are Kenny Rgers, Curtis Granderson, Austin Kearns, Pudge, Josh Barfeild, Dale Earnhardt S.R. & J.R., David Ruttiman, Ryan Garko, Justin Verlander, Andrew Miller, Grady Sizemore, and Any H.O.F. players (as does everyone..lol..).
I am looking foreward to being a productive member of this site for many years to come, thanks.

Hi everyone, I'm a newb to this realm. I am attempting to learn how this site functions but as far as my collecting interests go: I'm currently attempting to put together collections of Gary Trent and Brandon Hunter (two former Ohio U Bobcats) I am also gathering a smaller collection of nice Patrick Willis cards from this year in football.

I've collected cards since around 8 years old but lost nearly everything about two years ago in a fire. Thus my collection is now severely smaller but I still enjoy this hobby as much as I did when my best card was a Ken Griffey Jr. Donruss Elite card numbered out of 5000 in 1992 that I got in a 50cent pack of cards from a local grocery store.

I'm currently searching for a few of Gary Trent's rarer parallels and a few rookies that seem impossible to find. blink.gif

Primarily are his topps redemption rookie card not the #11 redemption card but the actual redeemed Trent card, Gary Trent 95/96 finest refractor rc, his skybox premium lottery exchange card (don't wanna open my sealed set), also 95/96 electric court gold Gary Trent rc.

I don't think Trent had any game used memoribillia cards other than redemption cards out of signature rookie for a variety of different items, but if anyone knows of any please let me know. I'm also interested in any Gary Trent printing plates or 1/1 cards that came out in his later years.

Brandon Hunter is somewhat easier to find cards of seeing as he is a more recent player but if anyone has the Cyan or Black 04/05 bowman draft picks and stars printing plates these would make a complete spectrum for me of this particular one.

Thanks as this is one of my first posts, my trade cards will mostly be out of recent NFL products from 2006 and 2007 but it may be a while till I can figure out the posting of pictures and all the specifics of how to do things right on this site.

Wlecome aboard Todd...good luck with finding the remaining Trent cards!

I enjoy collecting basketball cards first of all. Football and baseball follow closely behind in my interest level. I enjoy memorabilia cards, auto's are fun to get as well.

My favorite teams are as follows:
Basketball: Lakers
Football: Dallas Cowboys

I collect Kobe, Paul Pierce, KG, Duncan, Nowitzki, Dwight Howard, auto's of any KU basketball players in the NBA.

Randy Moss, P. Manning, most rookies cards when the new products release.

I hope this helps, I do collect magic, wow, and a few other types as well.

I have been collecting off and on for 26 years. I'm a big kid basically...I love the hobby.

I have been collecting cards since 1983 when my son was born. I figures I would start a collection for him. The only problem was I was the one interested in cards. ( He decided he would rather play basketball and football, not collect cards.) I tried my hand at card shows from 1988 to 1993. It was a great way to collect what I wanted. While everyone was running around trying to make money I was busy buying and trading to add to my collection. Did not make a cent, but I ended up with all kinds of great Cards. I collected basketball in those early days, But I ended up with all kinds of cards and memorabilia. After 1993 I only collected basketball. I would be willing to trade some older cards for newer basketball cards. If any one needs any football, baseball, or basketball let me know, I would see if I have what you need. I will try to post some of my collection if I ever get it inventoried.

I am definitely a hockey and football set collector.

HOCKEY
I am working at finishing all the OPC hockey sets from 1970-71 (when I was born) to 1974-75. I have 1975-76 to 1992-93 OPC complete.
From 1992-93 til present, I just pick the OPC or Topps set and sometimes another set or 2 that catches my eye and try to complete those as well.
It's the short prints and inserts that are mostly what I am missing in various sets. However, I value the base set as much as any SP's (And MUCH MORE affordable!)

FOOTBALL

Same style - starting with working on TOPPS sets from 1980 on to present.

Autographs

I also am trying to get a ONE certified auto of every NHL player that has been released. By that I mean if I get a 2000-2001 Ray Bourque Auto, I don't need any more from other years. Just one from each player that has one released.
PS - I still need a Gretzky, Yzerman and a Roy. Sigh dry.gif
TOTAL - 912 Different auto's so far.

Collect any thing from the following 3 teams.

Toronto Maple Leafs
Quebec Nordiques
Buffalo Bills

I collect sets and I love assembling them out of wax or eBay/Trades.

The current baseball sets that I am working on are:

2008 Topps Series 1
2007 Topps Chrome White Refractor set.

I do not have a want list for 2008 Topps Series 1, yet I have most of the cards needed. I have a have list for 2007 Topps Chrome White Refractors. If you have any let me know. I will try to update you guys on the sets I am working on.

Out of football I am working on:

2007 Topps Total base set
2007 Score base set.

I am not picking up the football stuff until football season.

I collect only some players....hometown favorites as they might be, all are former Detroit Pistons.

Jerry Stackhouse
Chucky Atkins
Michael Curry

Hopefully one day I can have a collection of one of the many great kids I've had an opportunity to coach. Having coached Girls Softball for 5 years, and Girls & Boys Basketball teams for 2 years, I just hope that each and every kid had a great time and learned something. The ultimate would be hearing some kid mention his old coach as an inspiration. biggrin.gif

Hello all! I'm fairly new here, but trying to get my feet wet.

I collect Topps baseball sets, specifically the 'regular' yearly set and it's update/traded and the Heritage sets. I'm 3 2003 cards away from having the Heritage collection from 2001-2007, and I'm about 30 cards away from finishing this year's Heritage set to rest. The Heritage sets were the cards that got me back into collecting cards after about 15 years away from the hobby. I'm buying the Topps sets I don't have in my collection, but I'm starting with the sets that end in the current year, for example in 2008 I need the 1998 and 2008 sets, I've got the 1988 and 1978, and if I hit the lottery, I'll go for a 1968 set. Next year, I have the 1989 set, so I'll look for a 1979 and 1999 set, and grab the 2009 set. If I don't categorize my wants, I'll be all over the place. laugh.gif

My main hobby is genealogy and family history.

I collect cards of two of my cousins: baseball player Damon Sublett and soccer player Brandi Chastain.

If you have any cards of these two, I would be interested in buying them all directly, through PayPal.com or some other method.

(I also collect other materials related to the Sublett-Chastain family, but those are the two big athletes in the family. Other than those of my blood relatives, I do not collect baseball cards in general.)

Thanks for sharing your hobby interests with us. It's always fun to meet people who are either related to, or are friends with professional athletes. Looking forward to seeing your collection additions and your contributions to the site!

Welcome to TCC and best of luck!

Collected baseball/basketball/non-sports cards when I was younger. Recently stumbled upon the Upper Deck store in my home town and I have become interested in cards again.

Main interest is collecting Anahiem Angel player cards.

I collect Minor League top prospects both TTM and in-person. My home stadium and League is The Midwest League Burlington Bees. Anyone interested in sending me cards of Midwest Leaguers to get signed just let me know. I have gotten most all of the stars who have come through in the past 5 years.

I am looking for an old Burlington Bees pennant from the mid-1970s--ideally 1977 when the Bees won the MWL championship. Do you have any suggestions on where I might find one? Thanks!
