I don't post here often but I had a pretty good one recently so I thought I'd spread my joy a bit! I attended an auction (which I rarely do) as they had a ton of BB stuff as part of an estate sale from a guy who was a big collector (mostly in-person auto's but there were a few cards as well).
I picked up a Nolan Ryan auto bat as well as an Ernie Banks ball and a few other things but there were so many sports collectors there that I paid a decent amount for those items. The steal for me was a lot of 4 cards that were being auctioned (times the piece) so at $15 per piece I paid $60 plus about $10 in fees for $70 total. Three of the cards were in-person autos on the Hall of Fame cards of Dick Night Train Lane, Leo Nomellini, and Lamar Hunt. I'm not big on IP autos as you never know about the authenticity though most of his stuff came with COA and he was a big time serious collector so I'm pretty confidant about them. Why I bid on the lot though was for the 4th card that was included almost as an afterthought as it was not autographed and was not in a display case like the others. It was a 1966 Philadelphia Dick Butkus RC that looked pretty darn nice! I won the lot of 4 for the $70 after fees and sent the Butkus in for grading. The results just came in last night and it pulled a PSA 8 which typically sell for $600-$700.
Whoo hoo!
