Richard was a great guy. When I got my first job as a professor he custom made nameplates for me to use on my desk. When I completed my 2005 Diamond Kings Red Frame set he made a custom binder for me to keep them in. Just a generous, all around nice guy. I can't believe he's gone. He was training to be a chef and I loved seeing his posts on Facebook about all the things he was cooking. He will be missed.

During our annual trip back to Michigan I stopped in at the old Legends Sports and Games to bust a box. Decided on 2012 Strata football because I liked the Clear Cut Auto/Relics.

Here are the results:

Look at that!!! 1/1 !!!! Not an eBay 1/1, but a real honest to goodness 1/1!! So, not too bad. Made my money back on the box.

Thanks for looking.

It was $49.98 which I think is like $2 more than Dave and Adams have them.

Found one of those hobby boxes at Wal-Mart this afternoon. Hadn't busted anything in a while and thought what the heck.

Second pack:

Also pulled:

Magglio Ordonez GU
Jason Giambi GU
Billy Wagner GU

Very happy with the purchase. Going into the PC.

I'm interested in the Andrus if you want to move it.

Thought it was a so-so break too. There were a few really nice cards, but most of the boxes were meh. Still fun to open that much at one time.

Stopped by the shop to see some others break a case of A&G, but arrived too late. Shop owner offered to open a box so I could take a look at it and work out something for any Ranger cards he might get. I told him to just split it with me, 12 packs each.

He pulled a nice Bobby Knight sweater relic with like 4 different colored stripes on it.

My first hit was a Hank Haney relic. He is Tiger Woods former gold coach.

Then in the second to last pack, I saw a hit, and then I saw red ink.

user posted image

I've opened Ginter pretty much every year and never pulled a red ink auto. This was great, and just a gorgeous card.

I put it up on eBay, but with a pretty high BIN. If I don't get what I'm asking I'll probably keep it or trade it for Ranger cards. Let me know if you're interested.

Oh, I also grabbed 4 packs from an open box and got a Josh Willingham relic in one of those.

Holy Cow!!! I have this ball sitting on my book shelf at the office. I had no idea it was this valuable. It's even worth that much at 30% off. Man, I've been sitting on a gold mine.

Nolan Ryan Baseball

Oh man, another one...

Nolan Ryan Baseball

Well, I'll be...

Nolan Ryan Baseball

So clearly the market for this ball is $500+. I had no idea!!!

Well, I got $402 for the Harper. This sort of makes me mad. The last one that sold at auction went for $521 last night. However, this morning, some idiot posted his with BIN of $450. That effectively kills the market for anything above $450. Why do that? Why not post yours with a BIN around what the last one went for? Why intentionally lower the market value of the card? It's the old collective action dilemma. These are Bryce Harper autos. People are going to buy them. If all the sellers work together to maximize the price they can get, then all sellers win. But there's always some moron who is going to under price everyone else to make a quick buck because he couldn't afford to be busting the boxes in the first place. When he does that, he not only sells his card cheaper than what he could get for it, but he destroys the market for everyone else.

Capitalism and I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to the New York Yankees buying their World Series, morons, and trying to sell baseball cards.

Yeah, my guess is that they aren't going to be too hard to get. I think I pulled 5 in my box.

Did you happen to pull the Will Clark base? biggrin.gif

I did, but his base is an SP. I put it up on the bay with the other ones I pulled. Trying to capitalize on that first couple of days of the product being out. If it doesn't sell, I'll send it your way.

I never got into the whole Harperpalooza. I'm much more of a HOF/Retired player guy. So, it was not hard to decide what to do with this card. Had I pulled the Darvish auto that would have been a different story. I would have had to make a tough decision.

But, it wasn't, so easy decision to sell the Harper.

I haven't really done a lot of boxes in the last few years, mainly just some blasters from time to time, and a few specific boxes from the local card shop.

So, this was a nice surprise out of just 1 box.

I thought I would do this thread like they do over on the Blowout forums whenever they pull some awesome card. So, first I had to make the title all "Blowouty." Now for the rest of the post...

So, I stopped by the LCS today to check out the 2012 Topps Archives. I busted one box and this is what I got...

user posted image
Bake McBride on-card Auto

user posted image
Carney Lansford on-card Auto

and then I pulled one for the old PC:

user posted image
Yu Darvish RC

So, I'm thinking that since it says 2 autos per box, I'm done with the hits. Pulled some nice parallels, SPs, and inserts. But apparently this was a special box, because it had 3 autographs in it....

Wait for it...

Yeah, HIT OF MY LIFE, SUPER MAJOR AWESOME MOJO!!!!!!!!

I now have a stack full of duplicates, but am still one card short (#25) of the base set. If anyone has that one I would appreciate a trade.

Yeah I did not buy this new, I just bought it for a collection i'm too small for a 5x. I will do a close examination and look at comparisons too identify it. If I think it is fake I will take it off or list it as a fake for a lot less cost. Thank you for bringing this to my attention even though it could be a potential bummer.

No problem. Sorry to give you some potential bad news. I've had a little experience with the Mitchell and Ness jerseys and people just love to counterfeit them. They are gorgeous when they are authentic though. I have the 1989 Texas Rangers Nolan Ryan Batting Practice Jersey. But, I waited and bought it straight from M&N when they had a 50% off sale.

Hope it works out for you.

I'm going to pass. I have some concerns about the authenticity of yours. I'm not questioning you specifically, but based on some research I'm not convinced yours is an authentic replica.

For example, while the pictures are blurry, it doesn't appear to have the button collar that the 1976 home jerseys had. It doesn't have the dark blue shading around the lettering on the front, and doesn't have the white Ranger "badge" on the base of the "R" on the front.

For reference, here is a picture of an authentic replica autographed by Perry for sale:

Autographed 1976 Gaylord Perry Jersey

Notice the differences I highlighted above between yours and this one.

Here's another one:

1976 Texas Rangers Jersey

And another:

1976 Texas Rangers Jersey

And here's a picture of Perry actually wearing his 1977 jersey, which is the same jersey they wore in 1976.

Gaylord Perry

Again, notice how the one Perry is wearing is identical to the Mitchell and Ness Autographed Replica in the other picture and the other auctions I provided. Yours is not the same as those.

Just to reiterate, I'm not saying you're trying to rip people off. I don't know where you got the jersey, and you may have reasons to believe that it is indeed authentic. I just have some reservations about it, given what I've posted here.

Don't know what I have to trade. Going to go through the base this week sometime and see how close I am to a set and what dupes I have.

I am pumped. They don't advertise 1 relic or auto per blaster, so to get 3 out of 4 is awesome.

I saw that people were pulling a relic or auto pretty much out of every blaster. So, I saw one at Walmart about a week ago and took a stab at it.

Sure enough, pulled the requisite gold, silver, and bronze parallels, but also pulled a:

Alex Morgan Bronze Relic 01/75.

user posted image

Didn't know who she was. Looked her up and she's a "hot" soccer player. Was in the SI Swimsuit Issue with one of those painted on bikinis.

Anyhow, nice hit. Definitely worth more than the $20 blaster.

Today, I saw three more and bought them.

First one had this:

Jessica Long Silver Auto /30.

user posted image

Didn't know who she was either. She is a US Swimmer and again, her autos sell for more than a $20 blaster.

Second one had this:

Sue Bird Relic.

user posted image

I know who she is. Didn't get the value back on the box with her relic card, but another nice relic from a blaster.

The third one didn't have any autos or relics. So, I guess not all of them have one. But, I definitely beat the odds. Although I've seen a few breaks where people were pulling two relics or autos out of blasters.

I'll have pics later.

The local shop owner bought a huge collection of GU and Auto sets. He decided to split them up and piece them out. So, he held back the Ranger and Nolan Ryan stuff for me. There's still some more left, but I picked these up today.

Alright, hold on. Here's my deal. I went back through my cards and I didn't realize that I only had a handful of pre-1970s cards. So, I don't have much to offer.

Here's what I have:

1966 Topps Mike Ryan Boston Red Sox Catcher
1966 Topps Don Le John LA Dodgers 3B
1960 Topps Hobie Landrith SF Giants Catcher
1960 Topps Joe Jay Milwaukee Braves Pitcher (Has Topps 50th Ann. Stamp)
1966 Topps Sandy Koufax
1969 Topps Nolan Ryan BGS 6

I realize the Ryan and the Koufax are nice cards, but it's going to be tough to stick one of those in the package. I know it's all about generosity, but those are the two oldest and nicest "vintage" cards I have.

So, if you guys think it's not worth me being in the chain, then I won't be, no problem.
