Comic book collectors are now wrestling with the same concept that's driven a wedge between sports card fans. Memorabilia cards have come to the non-sports card world with the release of Marvel Beginnings Series One.

The Upper Deck product hit stores this week and the ultimate chase cards in the boxes are "Ultimate Panel Focus" cards that feature a panel from a rare, but low grade vintage comic book.

Falling at a rate of one per case, the special insert cards have ignited a small but not contentious debate among fans of books like Amazing Spiderman 2. Some feel it's sacrilege, while others say it's a way to ignite interest in comic books of new and old vintage.

Upper Deck says it expected both good and bad reaction to the idea, but in this blog post , they offer a defense...and plenty of sample images of the Marvel Beginnings Ultimate Panel Focus cards.

I really like this idea!! Yea they are cutting up a nice old rare comic, but like they said its not a perfect condition one. And all those people will get to own a piece of cool books where if its left as a book only on person can own it!!

I don't do comics and have no interest in the cards themselves, but these are cool! Great way to preserve the bad condition comics!
