LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Even after signing defensive lineman Israel Idonije to a two-year extension and agreeing to terms with seven draft picks Friday, the Bears weren’t done.

They capped what just might be the busiest day in franchise history in terms of signing players by agreeing to terms with free-agent linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa on a one-year contract.

Tinoisamoa spent his first six NFL seasons with the Rams after being selected by St. Louis in the second round of the 2003 draft, eight spots after the Bears chose cornerback Charles Tillman.

Playing for Lovie Smith and Bob Babich in St. Louis in 2003, Tinoisamoa became the first rookie to lead the Rams in tackles with 121. He also had four interceptions and four forced fumbles.

The 6-1, 240-pounder again topped the Rams with 135 tackles last season, but he was released May 8 presumably because he didn’t fit into new St. Louis head coach Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme. The Bears, on the other hand, like quick, undersized linebackers.

Tiniosamoa visited the Bears May 20, speaking with coaches, touring Halas Hall and watching the team’s OTA practice. The 27-year-old reportedly also was being pursued by the Bills as well as the Patriots before New England signed linebacker Paris Lenon on Wednesday.

If Zackary Bowman picks off a pass Sunday in Minnesota, he’ll have interceptions in four straight games. Who was the last Bears player to do that?

The last Bears player with an interception in four straight games in the same season was safety Dave Duerson, who did it in 1986 against the Eagles, Packers, Bengals and Vikings. Bowman is the first Bears player with interceptions in three consecutive games since Brian Urlacher in 2007. The second-year cornerback leads the team with four interceptions this season and has five in 11 career games.

Does this kidney injury mark the end of Garrett Wolfe’s career with the Bears? I understand he’s not a prime reserve running back like a Chester Taylor, but he averaged over five yards a carry.

I don’t think that Garrett Wolfe’s career with the Bears is over. He is expected to fully recover from the lacerated kidney he suffered against the Arizona Cardinals and be ready to participate in the offseason program next spring. The Bears were planning on getting him more involved on offense at the time of his injury, and he’s under contract through 2010, so I think he’ll be back on the team next season

With all that said, we’re only doing our duty by acknowledging this statistic: Favre has thrown two touchdown passes and 13 interceptions in his past six games against the Bears. Three of those interceptions have been returned for touchdowns. The Bears were 5-1 in those games, all of which came against Green Bay. Every year stands on its own merits, but history is history.
