Might work out, Might!

And yeah, kind of a boring day!

Wings update:

Red Wings sign Swiss forward Damien Brunner

As much as the Detroit Red Wings want to add size and grit to their team, they couldn't pass up the chance to add a small but highly skilled and speedy European.

Damien Brunner had already told the Wings they'd won his services 10 days ago but he couldn't officially sign until July 1, the start of NHL free agency. There's little risk involved for the Wings, because Brunner is locked into an entry-level contract, which maxes out at $925,000, plus bonuses, and it's a one-year, two-way deal.

• Wings make offers to Parise, Suter

Brunner, 26, was a star scorer last year in his native Switzerland's Swiss league, where he recorded 24 goals and 36 assists in 45 games. He caught the attention of Wings coach Mike Babcock during the Worlds Championships in May.

"Brunner flat out flies," Babcock told the Free Press. "He can skate and he can score and he's got high-end skill. He loves to score.

"He can play in our top six. He gives us a player for our top six. Now, the question is, he's never played on a smaller rink. But I loved him at Worlds. I think he has a chance to be a good player. I'm excited about having him. He gives us a right-hand shot on the power play. For me, it's a big deal. We sure think there's an opportunity here for him, now he has to do it. Going from the big ice to small ice, you never know for sure. But others have done it, so why can't this kid?" detroit freepress news!

Hmm! Not sure what to think what holland is up too!

Still awiting news of the offer of Ryan Suter and Parise unsure.gif

PLease please stay put Mr. Suter, remember no income tax here. Dreaded this weekend all season. Wonder where Toot's will land, he will be missed in Nashville he had quite a following.

UPDATE - WOW Tootoo to the REDWINGS

Yellow Blue & white look better on you.

Pens loose Asham, but pick up a few forwards and defense. Oh well, hopefully they will make some other needed moves. Maybe resign Sully for one more year?

Red Wings bring back Mikael Samuelsson, sign Jordin Tootoo

The Red Wings added a familiar face and a new one to their lineup Sunday, bringing back Mikael Samuelsson and adding Jordin Tootoo.

Samuelsson signed for two years, $6 million. Tootoo agreed to three years, $5.7 million.

Samuelsson, 35, played for the Wings from 2005-09 and was lost to free agency when the Wings opted to focus their pursuit on Jiri Hudler in '09. Samuelsson split last season between Vancouver and Florida, producing 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points in 54 games.

• Wings sign Swiss star Damien Brunner

• Wings make offers to Parise, Suter

The Wings brought him back to help their ailing power play, as Samuelsson is a good-sized player who shoots right and has a booming shot. He's not shy about shooting, either, and contributed 23 power play goals during his four seasons in Detroit.

Tootoo, 29, is one of the NHL's most aggravating player, the kind that has a knack for getting under an opponent's skin. He plays bigger than his 5-foot-9, 200-pound frame, and adds an element of grit the Wings wanted. He's played all eight of his NHL seasons with Nashville and recorded six goals and 30 points last season in 77 games.

Tootoo, a player you hate but would love on your team, I guess!
Edit: Didnt like Mikael Samuelsson either, played poorly last time

NHL.com is saying some big offers being put to Parise and Suter. They said something about Suter possibly getting $10 million signing bonuses for 2 years and $2 million per year??? Huh? That would be ridiculous if that happens.

No wonder Wings are going different direction and getting some signing done, maybe room for one more big name, can count Suter out, and reports say Sidney Crosby called Parise to help sales pitch, so might not get him either

Posted by: redwing40 Jul 1 2012, 07:25 PM

Reports are saying that Ryan Suter has picked the Wings, not confirmed as of yet! Freepress reporters claim!

From Tootoo to freepress:

Jordin Tootoo: "I've known Darren Helm for a number of years, I'm great buddies with him. It's great to be a part of his team." think I like him more

Reports say in the Detroit Freepress say Suter is on a plane. Flying to Detroit with Wings owner, waiting on press conference, say 12yr deal worth 90 million! Other rumors are Nash is involved also, Filppula trade sad.gif

OK, This is what headlines say, I hate rumors!

The agent for unrestricted free agent defenseman Ryan Suter -- a top target of the Detroit Red Wings -- said his client is making progress but won't be rushed.

General manager Ken Holland is believed to have met today with Suter at his off-season home in Madison, Wis., though neither side would confirm that. The Wings made an offer of $80 million over 13 years to Suter on Sunday and have since increased the money to $90 million.

The issue isn't so much money as a whole, rather the salary-cap hit, as the Wings are concerned about retaining flexibility under a new collective bargaining agreement. Their top offer of $90 million averages to a cap hit of $6.9 million, which would put Suter among the leaders for defensemen.

Suter also is being courted by his former team, Nashville, as well as Philadelphia and Minnesota. His agent, Neil Sheehy, told the Free Press, "a decision is forthcoming," but wouldn't say whether it will come today.

Heard the Wings plane went to where Suter lives, but not sure whether the Wings GM/Owner went to him or if they flew him to Detroit. Not sure?

New post on Freepress:

The agent for unrestricted free agent defenseman Ryan Suter -- a top target of the Detroit Red Wings -- said his client is making progress but won't be rushed.

General manager Ken Holland met today with Suter at his off-season home in Madison, Wisc., arriving back in Detroit late this afternoon. Holland was not immediately available for comment.

The Wings made an offer of $80 million over 13 years to Suter on Sunday, and have since increased the money to $90 million.
