Could you make one for me?
Growing up near Detroit, my childhood heroes were Steve Yzerman, Alan Trammell, and Barry Sanders. It would be cool to see one with all three of them in it.

Honestly, I'm less inclined to buy if they spam the auction with all that nonsense. It also bugs me when they put in pointless nonsense that has nothing to do with the auction, or a copy-and-paste general set of information. Basically, if they put too much crap in the way between me and the actual description I'm looking for (or if the description of the item itself is missing entirely), I move on.

There have been a lot of changes going on in my life lately, and I've decided it's time to leave this state. I started researching cities and areas I could transfer my job to, and the one that intrigues me most is St Joseph, Missouri, which is just outside of Kansas City. I don't have any friends or family in that area, and if things go through and I do move there, I think it would be cool to know someone in the area.

I've posted this in a couple other forums, and I'm curious to see opinions here.

I'm sure lots of people remember Eli saying he's a top 5 QB in the league, well he seems to be doing everything he can to prove himself. I was looking at some stats earlier and noticed that he has the third best passer rating in the league (105.6), he has thrown eight TDs and only two INTs while completing 64% of his passes and leading his team to a 3-1 record after four weeks. The 64% is good, but not jaw-dropping. However, that QB rating is very impressive, in my opinion - and so is the record considering the Giants have one of the worst run games in the league right now. Eli seems to be carrying the team on his shoulders.

His week one was less than stellar, throwing one interception and no touchdowns in a loss to the Redskins - but I honestly think that makes the following three games even more impressive. All eight of his touchdowns and only one pick has come in the last three games, which have all be wins for NYG.

I still have a hard time calling him a top 5 QB with so much talent this league still has at the position, but he's definitely putting up some amazing numbers.

I'm starting a new hockey league at ESPN and I'm looking for owners.
This league will be the way I enjoy leagues, epic and deep. It's a 20 team league and each roster will start 2 C, 2 LW, 2 RW, 4 D, 1 G (max 3 on roster), we'll each have a bench of 13 (plus 3 IR). I like setting rosters like this because it forces owners to make decisions on who to start, rather than leave everyone in a starting spot and just let everyone play. That's boring, in my opinion.

It'll be a dynasty league, so we'll keep most of our roster and have a small draft between each season.

If you're interested, let me know. Either post your email address here, or send me a PM with your email address. There are quite a few spots still available, and I'm aiming for a Monday draft.

At least among Lions fans, Martin Mayhew is becoming very well known as a guy that gets undervalued players to move to Detroit. The guy that wrote this article also wrote a series of articles called the "Square Peg Series" which talked about Mayhew's ability to find square pegs that won't fit into their teams' round holes and pick them up for very little. He's assembling a strong team and has been very impressive so far. I read this and thought it was funny. I figured maybe a couple other people might get a kick out of it.

Just like almost everyone else in the country, I remember exactly what was happening, even before I knew about the attack. I was in high school, 10th grade, it was 2nd hour, geometry. We were locked away in our classroom because we were taking a quiz and my teacher was really anal about making sure we weren't disturbed. After the quiz, I left the class and started to my third hour, a graphics design class. As usual, the hallways were packed with students so densely that it was difficult to walk, and there was far too much noise to understand anything that anyone was saying. Once I got to my classroom, I saw about 10 people huddled around the tv in the room. I asked what happened and someone told me that a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center buildings. I stood there and stared at the screen, just as everyone else did as they came in. After standing there for a while, we all watched as the second plane hit the other building. An unbelievable dread filled the room and everyone realized what was going on. I'll never forget that mix of confusion, anger, and fear. The rest of the hour was pretty unproductive, nothing at all really got done. My fourth hour, drafting, was in the same room because they only had one graphics design class and they just used to drafting room... so I stayed there and continued watching the tv.
Fifth hour was PE, so I wasn't able to watch what was going on, but Coach was visibly shaken by what happened and we didn't do much that day. My sixth and final hour was biology. My teach recognized that everyone wanted to watch CNN and really focus on nothing else. He also said (as all the other teachers said) that none of us would ever forget that day. He did say that we had business to take care of, though. He gave us a quiz and said once everyone was finished, we could turn on CNN. I've never seen a classroom of students finish a quiz so quickly.

It was a terrible day that is impossible to compare to any other day I've ever experienced.

So I've been reading a bit about the "nasty factor" on pitches, but I'm still kind of confused. So basically, it just determines how difficult it is to hit a certain pitch? How do they come up with a formula like that? Is the nasty factor adjusted based on the pitcher, batter, conditions of the game, or anything else dynamic like that? Does the nasty factor go up if the pitcher wiped his nose on the ball?

I've been reading about it all day, and it's hard to believe. I grew up watching so many of these guys... it's unbelievable to know that they're gone like that.

It's a terrible, sad day.

Heh.

Even after reading the article and clicking a couple of the links in the article to read the sources, I'm not entirely convinced we're getting the whole story. It almost seems like someone noticed this and figured it would be an interesting story if he moved to the new school so he could play on a better team. Let's think about this reasonably, though. He's a sophomore, so he's what... 15? 16 years old? I very much doubt he decided to move himself to a new high school just to play on a better team. Even if he had wanted that, there are rules and restrictions that keep students in a particular school based on where they live. If he wanted to go to the other school, he'd have to convince his family to pick up and move just so he could play on a better team. While that's not entirely impossible, it is improbable.

What I imagine is more likely is that his family moved to the new school area for unrelated reasons, he's now attending this school, wants to play on their team, and it has nothing to do with the brutal beating in the last game.

Of course, we'll probably never know because this story will fall off the face of the Earth before verification is ever given.

Even if the highest bidder doesn't pay, it looks like a bidding war, and he could make an offer to the second highest, or third highest.

edit: $57,601.00, by the way. 21 hours remaining. Hurry up if you want a chance at it, guys!

That explains a lot, Michael. Thank you very much for the explanation. I did a little reading on it in other news articles about waivers after I saw your post, and it makes a bit more sense now. I'm just used to NFL waiver rules in which the claiming team does not give up any compensation in the form of a trade. They simply acquire the player.

So apparently Thome was "traded" to the Indians today, but I don't understand it. First of all, I know the MLB trade deadline has already passed. Secondly, it's my understanding that Thome was placed on waivers, then claimed by Cleveland. If this is the case, why does Minnesota get compensation?

I understand how waivers work in the NFL, but I've never seen a team get compensation in the form of a trade from the team that claimed the player they waived. Can someone explain this to me?

(Without reading the article, and going on information I heard on TV and on the radio,) apparently they decided to do this because they didn't do enough to track down Bin Laden; and Pakistan's reaction to the aid suspension was kind of "oh, whatever."
