Collector Zone _ Product Reviews _ 15-16 UD Buyback hockey

Posted by: northicehero99 Oct 22 2015, 11:49 AM

Saw the 15-16 UD Buyback hockey opened on another group break site. They opened 3 cases and wanted to know what collectors are thinking if you have seen it opened live or in group breaks.

Here are some product details:

A pack (single box) runs from $105 to $125 depending on vendor. A 5 pack/box case runs $460+ depending on vendor.

Each pack (single box) contains:
2 Cards Per Mini-Box - one a numbered base card and one Buyback Card!
Find Hard Signed Young Guns!
Look for 1-of-1 Signatures from Hall-of-Famers!

So of the three cases I saw there seemed to be one big hit per case. The big hits were 2 low numbered Brett Hull buyback autos and a Patrick Roy buyback auto #/6 along with 3-4 other autos in each case. Some other autos were Marazek and Seth Jones YG autos, a Hayes Canvas YG auto, a couple of various base card autos of MA Fluery (one on the base cup and one an SPx insert) low numbered, and one pack had a SP Game Used buyback 6 patch card of the Devils/Rangers #/6.

I was not impressed and while the idea seems neat, the price and return just don't seem worth the gamble in my opinion. 4 of the boxes contained hits that I could not see paying $50 or more on. Even the big hit boxes, I think the $100+ price point is a stretch. You can buy most superstar autos for what you are paying, or less, for those packs and while they may not be numbered the same or as low, I just don't see the attraction to overpay for a superstar auto. Additionally, don't collectors collect RCs because they are RCs and if they want auto'ed versions don't we have SPx, SPA, Cup, etc? I think this is just overpriced packaging, but to each his own. This would be on my NOT to buy list unless the price drops significantly.

ITG History of Hockey was a similar product a few years ago, but did not offer auto'ed rcs, just 4 slabbed cards. That box came with a gu buyback card, an auto buyback, a buyback rookie, and a GU card from the History of Hockey set (see below). Boxes started out at $200 and now can be found for as low $80 a box. One thing of note is that there were no Gretzky or Orr autos in this product due to their exclusive contract with UD, but still it had Mario and Yzerman autos as well as some vintage rookies of Orr, Vezina, and other vintage rcs.

Product Highlights:
4 Cards Per Pack
(1) History of Hockey Memorabilia Card Per Box!
(1) PSA/DNA Authenticated Autograph Card Per Box!
(1) Authentic Rookie Card Per Box!
(1) In The Game Buy-Back Card Per Box!

Has anyone else seen breaks or bought any UD Buyback, what are your thoughts?

i did not will not..

I keep remembering topps and bowman originals which has a single encased card per pack with a sticker seal.. blink.gif

they were highly counterfitted and many of the higher end cards from that product are unsalable due to that!
