Dear Green Bay Packers,
First off, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the draft picks you have made the past 5 years. Greg Jennings, Jermichael Finley, Clay Matthews...all great picks and very useful players. The problem for me personally is this: the last "hobby heavyweight" you picked was Aaron Rodgers in 2005, and that was before I started seriously collecting. From 2006-2009 you have picked shall we say "non-glamorous" players early, guys who do not necessarily carry a lot of hobby value.
In 2009, not a single player even made the "upper tier" rookie list of most products. I am in a lot of group breaks, but for the most part I end up hoping for a rare Bart Starr or Brett Favre, since the rookies you draft are not usually in the set, and are definitely not part of the coolest sets (Patches, Lettermen, Slideshow, etc.). We in the hobby know that the top tier rookies generally get put into the best subsets, get the best patches, etc. I would like the luxury to be able to get some "valuable" duplicates...cards that would be tradable/sellable and help me to add to my collection. What am I going to do with all of these BJ Raji and Jordy Nelson duplicates?
I guess what I am asking is for you to use a high round draft pick (1-3) on a well known OFFENSIVE skill player. My suggestion would be C.J. Spiller...not only would he provide RB depth (and a push to Ryan Grant), but he would finally add a threat to the return game and help our pitiful special teams. That would also insure that in every product I would have a chance at a top tier rookie.
Thank you for listening and I hope this year you draft the final pieces that will put us in the Super Bowl!
-Ed

QUOTE(snkpoct137 @ Feb 20 2010, 05:55 PM) so i guess you want to continue to get your quarterback sacked 5 times a game by neglecting an OL prospect? We have picked OGs and OTs fairly well in the 3rd-6th rounds (just like basically every other team that doesn't have a top 10 pick). You are right, the OL situation needs to be addressed. Soon. My point is, at pick 28, there will be no elite OL prospects available this year. I am not saying draft name skill players in every round, just ONE in the 1st 3 rounds. For a change. It would be nice to have a shot at a nice SP Rookie patch auto rather than a 2nd tier RC /9999 that has no trade value. You would have a shot at a Stafford, Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson in just about every product from 07-09.

QUOTE(Gforce083 @ Feb 20 2010, 09:06 PM) Nothing against Jordy, he is smooth. But my stack of Jordy duplicate autos is not exactly coveted by potential trade partners. Me: "I like your Starr patch - how many Jordys you want for it?" Potential Trade Partner: "Ummm...PM back when you have something good."Insert BJ Raji, Brandon Jackson or AJ Hawk for Jordy and you might see what I am getting at....

QUOTE(snkpoct137 @ Feb 21 2010, 08:07 PM) charles brown or bryan bulaga could be there at 28 but thats beside the point. In the same regard i dont think CJ Spiller will be there that late either as he is probably a top 20 pick and the 1st RB off the board. As nice as it is to get a "chance at Calvin and Stafford" i would rather them start spending some picks on the lines and actually get a winning team out there. I am tired of the "sexy" picks. Well stated. I'm not sure how Ryan Grant is working out in Green Bay, but I haven't heard much from him since he burst on the scene in 07. I'd say Jonathan Dwyer would be a great pickup. He seems very versatile and could grind it out for the Packers in the cold December games.
I collect: -Colt McCoy inserts/rookies/certain autographs -A mix of other stuff

As nice as it is to get a "chance at Calvin and Stafford" i would rather them start spending some picks on the lines and actually get a winning team out there. I am tired of the "sexy" picks. Right, I can imagine you are tired of the skill players Steven, at the expense of the Detroit line which is swiss cheese. The Lions absolutely do need to draft for both lines, the skill players are obviously there already. I also know Spiller will probably not be there at #28, but I was pretty sure Crabtree would not be there at #9 last year, and Leinart at #5 in 2006. When the clock is running and the heat is on, nervous GMs usually decide on safer lineman-type guys rather that chance it on risky-character types. Dwyer would be nice, but Spiller has that KR/PR potential which would be sweet. As for Ryan Grant, he did not have the long runs that he routinely busted out in 08, but his stats were very good overall, and he did not turn the ball over once in 2009, which is crazy valuable. He may need a push from someone other than Brandon Jackson, but I am OK with Grant as the starter until someone better comes along. He gets the job done efficiently. We have been on the opposite ends of the hobby spectrum lately, while Detroit has had a "star" player drafted high each year, Green Bay has mostly had "need" players drafted. I am very happy with what the Packers have done in the draft...they have taken a "need" player in almost every case, and it has worked out very well. Personally, it would just be nice for the "need" that falls to Ted Thompson to be a RB/WR/QB/TE with some hobby value for a change. That is all I am hoping for. A great draft for us could be 1)OL, 2)S, 3)OLB, 4)CB, and I will always be happy with a great draft regardless of how many OL autos I end up with!!!

QUOTE(GA_Pack_Fan @ Feb 22 2010, 11:26 AM) Don't forget the "Brian Brohm" stack of dups. And with the lack of stars being drafted it appears that Paul Hornung is taking up the slack for the rest of team. Don't get me wrong, autos of and HOFer are great but he must be getting tired signing all the time. His autos are everywhere!!!! Yup! I have seen Hornung autos devalue from around $45 ave. in 2006 to $20 today. Pretty soon the same thing will happen to Starr... And how could I forget Brohm!!!

QUOTE(cardinal @ Feb 22 2010, 07:16 PM) That's funny because the same thing could easily be said about the Lions. Detroit's pick in this year's draft blatantly NEEDS to be Russell Okung, but you've stated before that your very opposed to that. The combine will shine a little more light on it, but the Lions could trade down a spot or 2 and probably get Okung, especially if McCoy and Suh put on a show.
