I can certainly understand someone wanting a COA for reselling purposes but what it boils down to is all PSA is really doing is comparing an item to a bunch of pictures and some guy is giving his opinion if he thinks it compares well or not. In the meantime, people are sending in large amounts of money to do this and allowing the item to be tarnished in a way by having a sticker thrown on the front of it (this is my feelings on photos). I understand that there is a large amount of fakes out there but if you collect long enough you should have a keen enough eye to compare pictures just as the guy in the office at PSA is doing. I trust my judgement a little better than a stranger that I am going to pay for an OPINION. The UDA and other ones that have a rep on hand and document the stuff is really your best way of knowing besides getting it yourself. With that being said, I guess people do sleep better at night knowing that there is someone else out there that believes that it is real even though noone can say for sure.

I really dont care at this point no offense, you pretty much ruined my thread because all it is , is two people going back and forth now.

I think its safe to assume it was a joke...if he really did write that, it would be a pretty bold move to just leave it laying around on the table for everyone to see with him sitting at the table next to him. And ultimately, an athlete might say someone else is the greatest but they will never admit that they couldn't hold someone's jock! haha...just sayin. Funny Stuff though....thanks for posting!

Would appreciate a status update on this...DC confirmation said he received my items 3 days ago. The last I've heard is that his wife forgot to send my items and he would send out asap. That was 4 days ago and I've got nothing since. No confirmation #, no pm responses.

thanks for the responses...I guess I should rephrase what I'm trying to say. I'm very confident that it is authentic and I am pleased with the purchase and the ball...Im just curious as to what some of you might think the ball would be worth authenticated before I spend the money to have it done. If its not worth the cost to have authenticated then I'd be perfectly fine displaying it but since I'm not a golf fan I'd probably rather trade or sell it.

Would the fact that it is on a golf ball make it more rare and valuable than a signed baseball or the fact that mantle isn't actually a golfer make it less valuable is kinda what i'm getting at?

The auction house didn't have any documentation on it...it was an estate auction from someone that had died and the family was getting rid of his stuff. He had quite a bit of old Yankee memorabilia but there were not any sports collectors there so I got it for a great price. I don't really want to send it to an authenticator as I'm not a fan of golf a lick but in comparing it to the 2 other items I have that are PSA certified, it is spot on.

If I did send it in to get authenticated...does anyone have a value that it would possibly be worth with a COA? I have no experience in the "golf ball" market but I'd think it would be a bit of a novelty and there are some hardcore Mantle collectors out there. Even some that play a little golf..haha.

I picked up this Mickey Mantle autographed golf ball at an auction the other day and I'd like some opinions from anyone else.

I'd like to believe it is authentic based on:

#1- I've got a few Mantle authenticated items and the signature looks dead on

#2-I'd think it would be very difficult to forge an autograph on a tiny dimpled golf ball

#3-Why would someone forge a Mantle Autograph on a golf ball anyway?

Please let me know what you think judging by the photos in my bucket....
