On Monday, The Phillies got crushed by the Washington Nationals sad.gif

Their bullpen was terrible.

In GOOD NEWS:

QUOTE
In making the addition of reliever Rudy Seanez official on Wednesday, the Phillies said goodbye to infielder Wes Helms.

The team designated Helms for assignment and has 10 days to shed his contract. The 31-year-old, who batted .246 in 112 games last season.

Phillies lost last night 1-0
Cole Hamels pitched a great game, giving up only 1 run ( A home run to Ryan Zimmerman in the 6th) and 5 hits. Tim Redding was just better. He was brilliant and gave up only 1 hit (A single to Pedro Feliz in the 2nd) and pitched 7 brilliant innings.

The Phillies are now 0-2
The Nationals are now 3-0

They go at it again today as the Nationals go for a 3 game sweep of the Phills.

The Phillies will send Jamie Moyer to the mound, and the Nationals will counter with Jason Bergmann. The game begins at 1:05 EST.

Phillies are down 5-0 in the second...

they are gonna lose this game too.

They sure got crushed last night, didn't they? 11-0 - I think the Mets did the crushing. But Pedro is out for 4-6 weeks.

Nice way to fight back for the Phils today.

If the Nationals continue to play as well as they did against the Phils this series, the East will be unbelievably tough.

You think that was heartbreaking, I was at last nights NATS/Marlins Game. FL won it 4-3 for the sweep. In the bottom of the 9th with one out Nick Johnson was robbed of a two run homer by who else but Josh Willingham (Hey I have him on one or two of my fantasy teams) who managed to get enough of the ball to keep it in the park, he almost caught it, but it kept Johnson to a double. The Marlins then hit batsman Austin Kearns. With men on 1st and 2nd Paul Lo Duca grounded into a dang double play. I think my heart is still in my nosebleed seat at Nationals Park. blink.gif

The New Nationals Stadium/Park is very nice. Even the nosebleed seats, where I was siting, are pretty good. I think they went just a tad overboard with the HD MegaTron Scoreboard, but hey they had the money and they wanted to flaunt it.

I don't go to too many games, since the TV coverage via MASN (Mid-Atlantic Sports Network) is pretty good and tickets can get pretty expensive. Also with a regular 9-5 job it's difficult to go to any daytime games, which oddly this season their only day games at home are on holidays or the weekend. That leaves the regular night games, but it a game happens to go into extra innings and the walk-off homer isn't hit until 1:00AM it would be difficult to get up the next morning for work.

In the Inaugural season of 2005 I only saw one game at RFK vs. the Brewers. I forget the score but the Nats won that one. I had an acquaintance with season tickets and he invited me to a game that May.

I didn't get to go to any games in 06.

07 I just saw the final two RFK Home games vs. The Phillies the Saturday Night loss and the Final RFK Game Win.

This season who knows, so far last Thursdays game 4-3 Loss to the Marlins. I can't afford season tickets and only get a ticket when an opportunity to get it fairly inexpensively occurs. For this game I got it though a "group outing" from work, we had $15 tickets which put us in the upper most decks down the first base line.

I currently live in Silver Spring, MD which is just North of DC. From my home in the Wheaton area (which is North Silver Spring), it takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to get to the Park, even by public transportation. I'm in the packing stages for moving. I'm not sure exactly where I will be but I'm looking in the Gaithersburg and Rockville areas which are west of Silver Spring adding another 1/2 hour to a trip to DC.

The Phillies had GREAT GAME TODAY!

Won 10-2
Brett Myers pitched 7 innings and Ryan Howard,Chase Utley, and Pat Burrell all homered clapping.gif

And, the best feel good story EVER, Chris Coste, went 4-5 in the start thumbsup.gif

I can't wait for tommorow's game!!!
Johan Santana vs. Cole Hamels IN PHILLY!!!

We'll take this one. Hamels has been better so far this year than Johan so I will take the Phillies 2-1.

Santana will go 6 innings, give up 2 earned runs
Hamels will go 8 innings, giving up 1 earned run.

GO PHILLIES!!!

Then some stupid Phillies fan proceeded to tell me "Wow, you must not have come to a Phillies game before'. I then told him I had been to over a dozen, but I'm not going to boo when ANYONE gets hurt.

Yeah....I know it's not everyone that does it, but those who do make a bad impression on the entire group.

Tough Loss for the Phillies yesterday.

Utley hit a 2 run homer in the First Inning to tie the game 2-2, but that was the rest of the scoring for the Phillies as the Padres won 4-2

Still, they are 7-3 in their last ten games, and had a 15-13 record in April.
That is HUGE compared these starts the past few years:

May 1, 2007 12-14
May 1, 2006 11-14
May 1, 2005 11-14
May 1, 2004 10-12

Still, we need to work on getting Howard and Rollins back and playing as they should, and work on our shaky defense, as well as trying to do something to fix our rotation.

He was actually back up after only 4 days... He had their only run on Saturday with a home run.... I hope that the all star break gives them a couple of days to regoup and get things together... We will have Hampton back it appears as well as Soriano and Glavine before too terribly long... There is still time to make it interesting....

Hampton will pull something his first game back and be on the Dl again laugh.gif

I certainly hope not... I do not know how far back your baseball knowledge goes, but this whole Hampton deal reminds me of the Bruce Sutter as a Brave days... I think we paid him $40 million for about 15 saves and a lot of DL time...

Well Hampton has spent a lot of time on the DL and I just feel like he's not going to make it back to the field very much the rest of his career.

Posted by: DiaperDandy Jul 14 2008, 10:32 AM

Unfortunately you are right more than likely... I just hope that he can give some quality innings and then be a teaching force in the dugout for the younger call ups in the second half... He was such a dominant pitcher in his day, I wish we could have just a few of those days again...

Berkman???

Posted by: DiaperDandy Jul 16 2008, 01:36 PM

Yeah but he is the typical mold that the Braves had preyed on in the past...go get a bat and then he goes into the most prolific slump of his career and is traded away for a Class A scrub that just got off the school bus a week ago...

PHILADELPHIA -- Jair Jurrjens pitched eight scoreless innings and Brian McCann hit two homers, including a grand slam, to lead the Atlanta Braves over the struggling Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 on Friday night.

Jurrjens (10-5) allowed three hits, struck out six and walked one. The 22-year-old right-hander leads all rookies in wins, and he lowered his ERA to 3.02.

McCann led off the fourth against Kyle Kendrick (8-5) with a drive to center for a 1-0 lead. He connected for his 20th homer off Brad Lidge during a seven-run ninth. Lidge, the All-Star closer who hasn't blown a save this season, had not allowed a home run this year in 42 innings.

Kendrick gave up one run and seven hits in six innings.

Ryan Howard hit his major league-leading 30th homer with two outs in the ninth for the Phillies, who have lost five of seven since the All-Star break.

The free-falling Phillies have lost five of seven since the All-Star break and started the day behind the New York Mets in the NL East standings.

Philadelphia was a season-high 13 games over .500 and had a season-best four-game lead in the division after a 20-2 win at St. Louis on June 13. Since then, the Phillies are 13-21 and the offense has sputtered: They have scored two runs or fewer 13 times in those 34 games, including three shutouts.

HAHA. Any true fan knows you can never collect a guy on another team, or root for him. You've done the worst of the sins...as you root for a guy patroling the OF for the CUBS. I would never collect/root for Johnny Damon or Carlos Beltran. It's just wrong.

so, by that logic, yankees fans would have to hate babe ruth because he played for the boston braves at the end, or niners fans should loathe joe montana for going to the chiefs his last year. and you didnt answer my question about the sox. rooting for a whole other team is the ultimate treachery.

Phillies are streaking.
Offense is on fire, and the Brewers will have CC ONCE and Sheets ZERO times in this series.

Seriously if you make a ridiculous claim like this, back it up.

Still, putting him in just wasn't necessary, they need to learn to save him for when they truly need him. They did the same crap with Mitch Williams years ago (who ironically threw out one of the first pitches yesterday rolleyes.gif).

Posted by: baseballguy601 Oct 2 2008, 12:22 PM

So you throw in Durbin or Romero who HAVE HAD BAD MOMENTS this year!
And they walk 2 in a row, and before you know it, someone comes up and launches a game tying 3-run bomb before you can say "Where's Brad?"

Feel free to be angry about him coming in WHEN he blows a save or CAN'T come in to the 9th later in the postseason because he's too tired, but don't get on them now when it doesn't make any difference.
