March Low Budget Baseball Break Club

Break Format:

- After the verification process, we'll talk boxes. We will all vote on at least 6 different box variations. My hope is that we pick a lot of boxes with a lot of hits so that we can spread the love.

- $20 Paypal per spot will get you 3 rounds in a draft for 3 teams. First round is drafted, the reverse of that draft is the second round, and the third is another random draft. That said, you cannot draft the same team in 1st round in back to back months (In other words, if you pick the Yankees in the first round this month, you can't pick them in the first round next month).

- Payment will be due once all members are verified for the month. Then, and only then, will I post my Paypal address and accept payments. I want to make sure we're all on board. Those who wish to use something other than Paypal (trades, money orders, checks, pie, etc) will have to PM me.

- Shipping, Paypal fees, and supplies will roughly cost around $3.00 a person. That leaves us with roughly $170 a month to work with.

- You will receive every card for every team you drafted, including base cards.

- Team issues: Player's uniform dictates who the card goes to. If a player played for a defunct team, he goes to the modern incarnation of that team (ex. Expos = Nationals).

- Multi Memorabilia and/or signatures are randomed between the teams UNLESS one team/owner outweighs the other on a card. For example... A card featuring David Wright and Chipper Jones would be randomed off between Mets and Braves. However, a card featuring Jon Lestor, Josh Beckett, and Andy Pettite (Red Sox, Red Sox, Yankees) would go to the Red Sox owner. If it's three or more different teams and someone owns the majority of the teams, it goes to that person.

- Non-baseball cards are proportionately randomed between all members (celebrity cards, strange subsets, etc). That is to say that if we have 10 different random cards, once one person wins one, he's out of the loop to give the other 9 a shot (and so on).

- Minor League and college players go to the teams they were drafted to UNLESS it states on the card that they are on a MLB team. If they are undrafted, they are randomed.

- Each month, the Wax Wombat kicks in a box. No, it won't be anything expensive. No, it may not always be a hobby box. It could be a blaster or a multi-pack retail box. Bonus boxes will be revealed during the breaks.

- Transactions for the break are made after the break is finished. Shipping of your cards will be the first convenient weekday.

February's cards are either in the mail for some of you, or ready to be shipped on Monday.

We have one issue we need to address when we get to box selection: Less base cards. I am going WAY over budget on shipping for February. So we'll need to find smaller releases to go with one 24 pack-style box. I know it's a pain and we have set collectors in the club, but I really don't want to bump our shipping up to $4/ea.

I found some on-card autos I had forgotten I had, they will find their way to you soon. There are a couple more things I want to check before shipping it out.

Well, my only issue with Ustream is a privacy issue. Not an internet thing, at all. It's that I live with people who tend to be loud and barge in on me when I'm trying to do stuff. You might of noticed that last time.

With Youtube I can record when I have quiet moments or edit out the background sound.

I know I am the boss of the break club (or chairman, as it were), but you guys are the participants. It really is up to you guys.

Okay, now this month I'm going to put out four options for us. My goal is to cut down on the base cards, yet keep one set/team builder set in each option. Last month the shipping averaged $3.50 a person, which was .50 over budget. I don't want to raise our rates this time.

As before I will throw in something (a box, blaster, bunch of packs, whatever).

The options:

Option 1 "Every Couple Years":

Buck the system I'll go with 3. Or swap out the Ticket to Stardom in #4 (which looks like it will be the winner) with something else. I'm not thrilled with that one.

I'm going to go on record as saying, from all the Sweet Spot (sans Classic) I've opened and seen opened in my life - none have been killer.

That SAID... None of this is up to me. If one of you guys wants to make an option 5, we can all look at it.

I'm really open to anything as long as no more than 1 box has 24 packs.

I guess this is where the King Mango of TCC and myself differ. I am personally a huge fan of SPA and I anxiously await it every year. But I will not include it as he is not a fan...

but here is an option 5 for goofs and grins...

2008 UD Heroes (4 hits and numerous par cards of all colors)
2009 UD Piece Of History (3-4 hits) (I am sure most are not big fans)
2009 Donruss Elite Extra Edition (6-11 hits) I know its prospects but I like it and there are some Albert Autos to be had)

I think the total cost is right around 170... (14-19 hits plus lots of par)

RE: Goodwin Non-Baseball stuff. I like that assigning everyone a number and then randomizing the cards which ever number wins.

Another way to do it (which would ensure an equal distribution) would be to just randomly sort the non-sport stuff into the number of piles there are people in the break, then put them into team bags and randomly put the bags into each person's mailing package.

And yes, that's a Lincecum redemption there, lol. We've done really well in our first two months, fellas. I just wish the love was spread around evenly this month - ah well, there's always next month!

In regards to the random cards - I went willy nilly and separated them out between you all (I am an exception - I kept none for myself). Those without hits got the subset or black border oddballs.

I called UD regarding the redemption this morning.

The good news - I could still redeem it.

The bad news - inventory has been depleted on the Lincecum.

They at least asked me what players I collect - Let's see who and what they end up sending me.
