Memo to Moms everywhere: Here’s why you don’t throw out old baseball cards.
The family of a Brooklyn man stands to reap millions from an auction of a treasure trove of cards collected from 1909 to 1911.
The Kings County man amassed 1,400 cards, which came in cigarette packages back then, into a collection that includes legendary Hall of Famers such as Cy Young, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson and Chief Bender.
“Every time he got a card, he threw it in a box,” said Troy Thibodeau, manager and auctioneer at Saco River Auction Co., which is handling the sale.
Great story. Gets me drooling almost as much as the story of how some guy stumbled upon a few cases of mint, unopened 1952 Topps baseball cards.
