The Neo-cons and the Bush administration have threatened our national security, and the world's economy, with the war in Iraq. We told the world to bug-off through rejecting the UN Security Council's resolution against Iraq and then unilaterally engaging in a war in Iraq. This made the world, particularly Russia, China and France who sit on the security council, not trust us. Well, they don't trust us because we used them AND lied to them about Iraq's nuclear ambitions.
Now, we have neo-con war monger John Bolton who will soon preside over the security council and ask them for a resolution to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions. Our pleas to stop Iran will fall on deaf ears, as the UN and security council will be unwilling to be used, or lied to, again like it was in Iraq. We will not see a vote in the UN asking for sanctions against Iran, which is what SHOULD happen.
Israel as already said that they would like to strike Iran's nuclear facilities militarily. The US has hinted that we would support that. Nice. It used to be that we could solve these kinds of problems diplomatically but no longer can because the Neo-cons and Bush administrations have shown that they do not value diplomacy. This leaves us with nothing but a military option.
We are already spread very thin militarily with the war in Iraq. Iran knows this. And, who is the real winner in Iraq? Iran. They now control, through the Shiites, the southern half of Iraq. Start a war in Iran through military strikes on it's nuclear facilities, and all hell breaks loose in Iran, Iraq AND the US. We think the Iraq harbored terrorists - just think about Iran.
And, there's the kicker. Further instability in the middle east that seriously disrupts the world's oil supply bringing the world's economy to a standstill. Inflation throughout the world that will make the depression seem like child's play.
So, for the neo-cons out there on this board, are we safer with our isolationist policies? Are we safer now that we are spread militarily thin in Iraq and a real nuclear threat (not just one that we made up) rears it's ugly head? When we finally do strike Iran w/ Israel, are you going to be happy continuing to send our children to war for years to come while we pay over $100 a barrell for oil and $5 a gallon for gasoline?
It is just a terrible state of world affairs that this administration has subjected the world and the citizens of our great nation.

My point: The US blew it's wad on a war of choice in Iraq leaving us with few options to deal with a true threat - Iran.
And, the world is a small place. What we do, and what other countries do, affect's all of the people of the world like in no other time in history. Like global warming, we MUST work together to solve our planet's problems, politicially, environmentally, or otherwise. If we don't, we are doomed. Like it or not, isolationism will lead to our demise (but, luckily, we are like cockroaches and some will survive).
We would be better to accept the fact that we are all interconnected and work diplomatically as a result.
