Ladies and gentlemen....Trading Card Central and Beanschat Entertainment are proud to present....MARCH MAYHEM!! The return of TCC Fights! After a long lull, we will be running a 10 round match over the month of March. At stake is your pride and a small prize package from myself (don't expect any Manning Autos!)
I will be looking for up to 10 competitors....once the slots are filled, we will begin the match.
The match will consists of 10 rounds in which you must find cards that match the rounds requirements and submit them. Each round will be graded with the top vote getting 3 points, and 2nd and third getting 1 each! Votes will be tallied and the winner will have the highest total at the conclusion.
This will include a special over the top rope feature. If you fall 10 points behind the leader, you have been expelled from the ring, over the top rope!
You may submit your participation in this thread!
For those of you unfamiliar with this concept and unsure of whether you would have the firepower to particpate (first, it's all about fun), some categories we have used in the past include...
Best GU of a HOFer
favorite card of a guy with sideburns
best card from a player with the same birthday
Complete a trade the fastest
Most illegible auto
Let's get ready to rumble!!
Challenge #1!
Your "best" card of a current "major league" manager from his or her playing days. By "major league" I mean head coach at the highest level of that sport. No minor league, no arena ball, no d level, no NCAA. And remember it has to be a card of them from their playing days!
Challenge #2!
Best card of a HOFer that was inducted with the sports last class!
Challenge #3
Most colors in a patch (es) (no manufactured patches allowed)!
Challenge #4
A card of someone who has played in the NCAA March Madness
Challenge #5
Your favorite card and a limerick explaining why.
Challenge #6
Best card of a player who spent his entire career with one team.
Challenge #7
Your favorite low grade card.
Challenge #8
Opening Day Gauntlet
Challenge #9 Non sports gauntlet

Are there going to be "weight" divisions?
not for this one...we may see Juventuud vs The Big Show!
Gigante just entered the ring!
What the heck, count me in!
I'm in.
Oh it's true! It's true!
hmm what is the shortest amount of time someone has been "tossed over the ropes"? I think I can beat that time. Speaking of time. How much time will each participant be given to post?
Why not put me in coach, I'll take my lickings in "da RUMBLE" - I might have a little problem making a quick trade if that one is reaquired I'm rusty in that department.
^"Required" not "reaquired"
Got some heavyweights in the ring....better hide my belt!!!!
Where is that lew47 guy.. I still have a bone to pick with him too!
come on ya pencil necked geeks throw your hat in the ring!

Here are our entries so far...
roadrunner1964

aceecards
pwolantern (not to be confused with the green lantern)
bajmurray
captkirk42
so we have 6 confirmed and one other keeping us on edge..
It was asked how long everyone would have to submit their entries...24 hours. I am trying to do my part to increase traffic...so I want you all checking in everyday!

alright..so we have 8 warriors in the ring...since I have to work tomorrow..we will start our first challenge...which is this...

another contest. There is no one that does it

I'll enjoy this one from the sidelines.

Am I too late? If not I'll try to dig out some stuff.
OK..I'll start off:
Head Coach of the Carolina Hurricanes:
Kirk Muller
donnie baseball
as a Yankee
Now the Mangler of the Dodgers
That card is not from his playing days Steve....
And Bob was afraid of ME cheating
i think we should let lew in!
I also think we should stipulate no duplicate players allowed unless the category is a specific player!
A two fold opportunity to share:
1) An chance to share an item from this cool mini set
2) Big things do come in small packages....
Playing days:
Chicago Bears (1987–1993)
Indianapolis Colts (1994–1997)
Baltimore Ravens (1998)
San Diego Chargers (1999–2000)
Detroit Lions (2001)*
Carolina Panthers (2001)
Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers
1999 Ruffles QB Club Spanish #12 Jim Harbaugh
Which was produced during "his playing days".....
An oldie but a goodie, Kirk Gibson RC
I knew there would be tough decisions. I have a few options here. I could have gone with my Name Sake Kirk Gibson skipper of the D-Backs, but I didn't think 1983 Donruss, 1983 Topps or 1986 Topps would cut it with the competition.
Then I thought about going with my Homie skipper Davy Johnson, Nationals my first reaction was a chromie thing I've got from a couple of years ago of a "Fans Favorite" but it is a Modern REPRO w/ Chrome added of his 1972 Topps (the card is NOT from his playing years, but the image of the card it reproduces is). So that wouldn't work plus I'm not sure if I still have it another technicality, the only card from his playing days I found (I actually have doubles of which I didn't realize) was his 1975 Topps. I was looking for an earlier card of his but sadly I couldn't find one. I almost went with the better of the two '75s then I thought this is more a popularity contest than my personal likes contest so...
I am going with the Skipper of the RED SOX Bobby Valentine. Here be his 1972 Topps card:
does eric spoelstra have a rookie card?
Yikes. With primarily football at my disposal, this one won't be easy. Let's see what I can dig up.
the referee removes the Donnie Baseball from Steve's boot. Has to a be a card from his playing days...not a picture of him during his playing days
Beans says I get to enter.
Jim Harbaugh
It's a TTM auto I got in 1998....
What? Wait....what just happened? This isn't right....Now 9? Besides, Harbaugh was already played.....why you.....I can't believe this.....aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh
Freakin' someone find Mister X.....
1984 Fleer #131 Donnie Baseball RC
Clock is ticking.....24 hours is coming soon.....maybe can pull a fast one and make it just 23 hours due to daylight savings time.....
This first round was all talk.
Is it too late to request a full refund? I'll watch a movie instead.
- Oz
Im pulling out due to injury
Steve's old. He heals slowly.
2 hours...2 hours remaining!!
Then we will have 24 hours to vote...better get your friends back on to the site tomorrow!!
You're not kiddin he's old. He pulled a Jurassic relic outta A&G and said, "I think I used to date her."
Wow
Hey...someone's tampering! I checked yesterday and I had the ability to add a poll...but today...now that I need it...it's gone...gonna have tocall in another ref!!
aceecards slipped thru the ropes and appears to be grabbing his hammy and asking for his mammy..
doesnt look good
I think Steve's just letting us lightweights beat each other up before he comes back in and tries to squish us.
I took into account my clear bias toward
Baseball (downplayed), the players impact during their
playing careers and management terms.
I liked the road_runner_1964 entry due
to the fact that it is a "funky" issue and
its uniqueness but . . .
ultimately went with msw sportscards
Mattingly rookie card. I believe his "on
the cusp" status for the Hall of Fame
as a player takes precedence.
Collect Hard!,
RGBII
Is it an illustration of bias when the person putting together the vote mis-spells the name of the only hockey coach nominated????
I don't know if it's the 'stache or the pink/magenta border; I went with the Kirk Gibson rookie.
- Oz
I'm in for round 2, possibly...if possible. The possibilities of a possibility.
As for my bias towards hockey, went for Mr. Kirk Muller from Bajmurray!
-Bill
I voted for the greater of 2 Harbaughs.
Looks like I could be in trouble for an early exit. Lets show some love for Gibby. Or maybe I will hide under the ring until the end and come out and toss the last one standing out when they aren't looking
I apologize for the misspellings...for Christmas my family got me a magnifying glass so I can read the backs of cards...apparently I need it to surf the web too...btw...I use the magnifying glass ALOT
As far as my vote..I really like the look of that Harbaugh!!
Voted for the ruffles card, like the design and the fact it's in Spanish.
I may be biased as a Niner fan, but the Spanish Ruffles Harbaugh card takes the cake. No contest.
Jerad
Nice choices but vintage baseball is my weakness so I had to give Capt.Kirk and his Valentine the nod!
I went with the Ruffles Harbaugh. Just such a strange card, I couldn't help but vote for it.
And hopefully, I'll actually have something to contribute for round 2! I scoured my collection, and I couldn't find a thing. That's the problem with having a primarily modern collection, I suppose.
Everyone can vote, and you are welcome to vote for yourself.
Mainly because I don't have any way to police or prevent it....
Roar of 84, had to take Gibson
i think autos are cheating so i went old school and delicious
Had to go with Harbaugh.... Ruffles or Auto ... hmmmm ...I'm hungry! Ruffles or Auto
My vote is in
1,240 views and only 33 votes.....
I thought those were pretty decent stats!!
ouch! You campaigned heavy!!
since the 24 hour clock would end around midnight..I am going to let it keep running...but in the meantime...I will give the 2nd category.
Best card of a HOFer that was inducted with the sports last class!
How about the best card from a product that is long forgotten, but should be remembered with a little more fondness:
The first football card with a guaranteed autograph in every pack---
Signature Rookies
Curtis Martin Auto Rookies (Limited to ONLY 7,750!! )
That's a nice start!!
I'm thinking that this category there will be some duplicates since there are so fewer choices.
EEK! I've got none of the Football ones, never heard of those guys. Hockey don't know any of the guys either. That leaves Baseball since I rarely follow basketball. I'm not sure if I have a Larkin card maybe I do not sure.
Gotta go with the man that should have gone in WHILE HE WAS ALIVE not immediately after he died. I've got a few of his cards this is one of my faves.
Round 2 submission.
87 Topps Barry Larkin RC....gotta love that wood grain. The first year I collected hard.
Kirk,
That's one of my favorite insert sets. I was going to post that Santo.....it's on....searching under the ring for a table.
2006 Fleer Greats of the Game
I will not like the HOF until they stop voting for Bill Mueller and Tim Salmon and induct Don Mattingly.
Alright, how about a guy inducted into the HOF for Basketball, but has also spent a little time in the ring...The Worm!
Pretty sure he has been elected just not inducted (August)
Where is the referee when you need him....
I have something better if Larkin don't count
and acee slips back thru the ropes.. still limping
to throw a haymaker!
]
Marshall Faulk!
Alright....referee turns to face the wrestlers again...
The initial rules of this round remain...the category is that they have to be INDUCTED. Part of the next class to be inducted will not count.
Here are the results from round 1:
Lew47 3 points for the Harbaugh auto
Roadrunner 1 point for the Ruffles card
pwolantern 1 point for the Gibson RC
NEVER would I have imagnine two Harbaugh cards would take this category!

1 hour left before we start voting!!
Round 2 Jumping back in off the top rope.
Brian, we can certainly add it if I get the poll up before your submission...otherwise, I probably wouldn't get to update for 24 hours after our baseball practice tomorrow night...unless Richard is willing to be my assistant referee.....????
No problem, I'll hang around and put a poll

what happend to te same player ideaology?
or is that two big of a word for you fellow moronic grapplers?!
Looks like I am lacking in votes, it is almost time to pull out the secret weapon. It could be something that either wins the contest or gets me DQ'ed...or maybe it is a picture of my latest entry in a dress
It is when you spell it, smart guy.
Would it be too much to ask to have the list of contestants on the firsts post along with the current score tally?
(at least all us unscored underlings were all tied at 4th place with 4 votes each)
I didn't know this was a free-for-all. I would have grabbed my metal folding chairs and styrofoam boulders and joined in.
tough to choose...I like the Marshall Honors Aauto though...pretty card! Love vintage though! And Cowboys dual GU...
wow..it's a runaway though so far with the dual auto with Alomar!!
You mean I rushed home from work last night for one freaking vote????
yeah..only 22 votes...i am disappointed....I am going to have to ramp up the category!!
yes you better.
Alright, voting for round 2 is complete....
Ties for the 3 place give one point to several people...
1 point to Captkirk42 for Blyleven
1 point to pwolantern for the Rodman Auto
1 point to aceecards for the Faulk Auto
and 1 point to WestCoastSkinsfan for his faulk Auto
but 3 points for the second censecutive round to LEW47 for his Alomar Auto
I will be putting cumulative totals on the front page in an hour as well as posting a new challenge!!

Current score:
Lew47 6
Captkirk42 1
pwolantern 1
aceecards 1
WestCoastSkinsfan 1
roadrunner1964 1
Lew could make this a quick contest if he takes this round as well!!
Hopefully we makes this one a slam dunk.....
2010 SPx Fantastic Foursomes Peterson / Tomlinson / Johnson / Gore 08/10
Ouch...I think I used all my neatest patches in prior matches.
Gotta wait till later tonight when I'm home to scan, and to count colors.
Dang I wish I hadn't sold that pretty 4 color 2007 SPX Winning Materials (58/99) Ryan Zimmerman on checkoutmycards back in '09 (it was the 2nd item I sold there out of maybe 20 things that have sold.) Yes it was a Nationals card and Yes it was Ryan Zimmerman, but it was GAME-USED and I was really ANTI-GAME-USED back then and knew it would sell. I am more tolerable (or maybe beaten into acceptance) of them now.
Not gonna win...but maybe worth a few votes.
2010 Leaf Limited Draft Day Quads Bradford/Spiller/Best/Thomas Prime 2/4
It might make a Bradford "supercollector" a bit jealous too.
some SICK ones to start out! Oh..someone can take down the poll too!!
Gotta go with Patrick Ewing Jr. UD Black Quad Patch/Auto #ed/30
I was always partial to bottle nosed dolphins
I think that is like 6 colors on one awesome patch
Here's one with a little entertainment value:
Fred Taylor signed with the Patriots in 2009.
So..Upper deck decided to have a patch card of him in Exquisite.
Here's what they came up with...
Nice use of the Jags logo!!
Definitely some throw downs going on here.....
Missed link for the second round poll, couldn't vote on time, need link to 3rd please, unless I been missing it?
OK this probably won't grab 1st with all those multi player cards so far but this is just one guy you might have heard of him (or not)
I think the only one we are missing is WestCoastSkinsFan..I'll send him a PM...I won't be around when the 24 hour clock ends tomorow morning. If there is a team member who can create a poll for me at that time..or when he posts it..that would be great..otherwise I can email Richard tomorrow night.
(Anyone know why on this site only, my typing doesn't show up right away in the text box...I type then wait for it to catch up with me a minute later...and I am not even that fast of a typer!!)
I'm just pondering my choices. My entry will be up shortly.
I browsed my collection and I couldn't come up with much more than 4 colors, so I figured, hey, why not make good use of those 4 colors?
A 1/1 out of 05 Bowman, we have the NFL Shield from Antrel Rolle's actual on-stage jersey from the NFL draft.

1 roadrunner1964 for the Quad runningbacks
1 bajmurray for the Taylor patch
1 captkirk42 for the Ripken
1 Westcoastskinsfan for Rolle Patch
In honor of that big basketball thingy..the next category will be of a card of someone who someome who has played in the dance!!
Someone can take down the poll.
OK. I don't have much basketball, but I do have something that more than qualifies.
I have someone who made back-to-back finals appearances in 1994 & 1995, and hit the game-clinching 3 pointer in 1994 to lead the Arkansas Razorbacks over the Duke Blue Devils 76-72 (I should get extra votes from Duke-haters!!
I present...Scotty Thurman
wow tough category.. that would be about everyone who ever played basketball since 1939 except those drafted from High school aka Bron, Kobe, Garnett..
However..

Hmmmmm.....aceebaby bought that round....now way that finhead should have won....
Any Basketball that I have will be of the 264 kind, of course. But, I do have this one that was part of the "Thad Five", which played for the NCAA Championship, from the Buckeyes.....
2007-08 SP Rookie Threads Daequan Cook 264/799
A Jordan auto....
Talk about a cheap shot!!!! (But nicely played!)
It's a shame that you couldn't come up with one in a college uniform, since the category has to do with COLLEGE basketball!!
From my alma mater, the University of Illinois, this guy didn't just dance, he rocked the joint. In the Elite Eight, he led Illinois back from a 15 point deficit with just over 2 minutes left to beat the Arizona Wildcats in the most amazing college basketball game I have ever witnessed. He and his Illini handily took care of Louisville in the Final Four only to be stifled by Sean May and the Tar Heels in the only NCAA Championship Game that Illinois has ever played. Current NBA All-Star...........

Bill Russell/Jerry West dual auto #/49
I put in for the poll to be added. It's rounds like this that make me wish we could vote 3...it's no doubt that the Jordan should win....but will anyone collect any other votes??
I would LOVE to ge thtat TO auto..have wanted one for quite awhile.

form is available by clicking on this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerick_(poetry).

there is no tag teaming in an over the rope challenge unless you are the bella twins and working a little twinl magic.. although I doubt Bob or Oz would pass for one.
I think the ref oughta toss em both to prove he is not bought and paid for
results show a very even race so far...it is tough...several good limericks! Great job everyone!
Phew - I'm here. Weird hours at work have kept me offline since Sunday.
man the voting is sucking wind!
We close to a next round oh motor mouth legume?
I am going to leave the voting up until tomorrow night to try and break that 3 rd place tie of.....everyone???
However, I am going to slip an illegal object into the ring! (You'll know it when you see it!)
POW!
+2 awarded to the Ringside dual
I know many will think, "Hey! That's not cool!"
I dealt a harsh blow
And that's how it'll go
Now back to your corner and onto your stool.
The announcers forgot to mute their microphones and leaked the details of the next round:
With Chipper announcing his retirement at the conclusion of the 2012 season, post your best card of an athlete that has played his/her entire career with a single franchise. The athlete must be retired and played a minimum 10 years at the professional level.
- Oz
I already used this card a while back in a contest...
Jeter/Donnie Baseball 87/99
So I guess I'll have to use this one?
Jeter Donnie Baseball 2005 Reflections Dual Auto 26/99
1960 Topps Stan Musial
As much as I'd like to use Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr. I already showed a sweet card of his (the multi-colored beast) so lets go with one of my all-time fave cards/players "Mr Cubbie" himself Ernie Banks. I've had this card as long as I can recall, one of my first cards. It may not be his best card, but it is my fave of his.
Gotta go with Lawrence Taylor
#52/99
Going back to hockey, which is guaranteed to lose me votes, I present arguably the player who has been with the same organization the longest:
"Le Gros Bill" -- Jean Beliveau
Joined the Canadiens in 1953-54 and retired after the 1970-71 season.
Won 10 Stanley Cups as a player during that time.
Joined the Canadiens front office upon his retirement, and is still with the team today.
As a member of the front office he won 7 more Stanley Cups, bringing the total to 17!!
He even turned down an opportinity to be named the Governor General of Canada (Canada's official Head-of-State) and chose to remain with the Habs.
59 years and counting!!!
###### tough category..
and I hate it when people use the same player.. cause Musial and other Yankems certainly come to mind..
And although I came up with a plethora of names..
One "Big Train" kept coming to mind
Walter Johnson
Washington Senators 1907-1927
427 wins!
Class of 1936 for the Baseball HOF!
ooooh! Dang..some sweet picks out there...but that cut auto..WOW!!
Time to take down the poll?

We could start eliminating people this round!!
I was injured and felt a pair of brass knuckles aside my head from behind the curtain....not sure the culprit, but coming out swinging and jumping back into the fray.....represented by my boyhood hero, my idol, acknowledging his 20 year career by sharing these pieces from 1975 to 1994 (thanks to my oldest daughter for the nice frame, years ago).
Robin Yount
......Beep Beep.....as Roadrunner runs around the ring.....Catch me if you can!
i think you must ve suffered at acme concussion there at the hands of Wile E Coyote
UH-OH! Looks like Im going down this round before any votez are in w/that career move by Bob
Poll is up for sportscollectoroz's category

some folks may be singing the refrain from LZ's When the Levee Breaks by tomorrow morning..!
Have to go with the 59-year loyalty! Amazing!

Dang, I didn't realize the 24 hour clock started on the "leaked" round. I had some good ones, too!
Next round, if I'm still around.
get it in Sam! You might be lying in the corner now..but a bit hit could put you standin tall in the middle of the ring by the end...if you can find Richard to add your post to the poll..
Voting is lackluster..if your stop by, please PLEASE VOTE!!
Went with the dual 1 team players!
Very tough on this round, had to go with bajmurrays card
NEXT?!
Voted!
The cut is one of the best cards on this site, but can that beat the dedication put up by 264? This ref thinks not!
"Ref slides 264 a steel chair under the ropes - but will it be enough?"
Oh gaseous one..
Lets get some new original categories in here hey?
Way toooo many combatants after 6 rounds of this.
We aint gonna have nothing left for the grand finale the way we are going..
Let me run a couple past ya.
We aint had no dames in here yet.. So hows about a Girls who dig ball players category?
Maybe?
Or.
Hows about small men who dress up in tin cans?
Well maybe that is a little too tough..
Oks then.. How about your best assemblage of your favorite TV show or Movie? I mean that would be cool right?
Come on dude.. be creative!
I got plenty left to use Steve...haven't even used my 1990 ProSet yet.
The 24 hours is up...here are the results from the last round..
Aceecards 3
bajmurray 1
road runner 1964 1
Ace..those categories seem a little...hmm..shall I say, biased towards you??
Let's see what I can think of here real quick.
Current score:
aceecards 11
Lew47 9
Captkirk42 4
bajmurray 3
WestCoastSkinsfan 3
roadrunner1964 2
pwolantern 1
This means that pwolantern, mswsportscards, and oz have all been tossed over the ropes....and roadrunner is dangerously close!
Oh! and poll can be taken down!!
Previous category poll has been deleted.
Let the rumble continue.

In the spirit of the competition..those that have been eliminated MAY still interfere in the match by supplying a submission to someone still in the ring...For example, pwo may send a card to BAJmurray that he thinks may be a great submission!!
Here is the next category...Not every card can be gem mint...and alot of those don't get love like they should...so we are going to give a little love here to the lower graded cards....
We are looking for your favorite card in Fair or Poor condition. Card does not have to be professionally graded...I think we can all tell what ones will qualify!
