It is the end of another era in Baltimore as manager Dave Trembley is fired after a terrible 2010 thus far. After a sub .500 managerial record at Baltimore he will be replaced by former multi all-star Juan Samuel.
I don't know exactly how much a manager does in baseball, however I don't think this was really his fault. Some of said he is too soft on players and that may be true (an a good reason to fire him) but strictly game-speaking, the Orioles haven't lost many games by 1 or 2 runs where the manager has a greater impact on what to do. A lot of games (like the Yankees series) have been blowouts, and thats something beyond his reach. We do have some injuries but the problem is that the Orioles aren't clicking. We've tried restructuring, and it hasn't shown yet, after 2-3 years of rebuilding. Andy McPhail said that this was "phase 2" for the Orioles, as they would move out of their way below .500 ways. Looks like not this year. Hopefully things will turn around though.
