Collector Zone _ Suggestion Box _ Auctions?

Posted by: edgerrin32 Jun 15 2010, 10:04 PM

Could it be done? I think it could! You would just go into the auctions spot and it would just be like a normal topic, but the seller would update the prices as people bid! Let them run for a week or so and then end them! And then create a "sale transaction" with the winning bidder. LMK you thoughts?

I believe this was discussed before and never implemented because of some sort of fees that would be involved on TCC's part if it were to hold auctions. I'm not sure where those fees would go. I just remember it being discussed.

Why charge fees? There are no fees for selling on here? Or I forgot to pay my bill! tongue.gif

Lets say this is the first post!-
I have a Edgerrin 1/1 patch up for auction! Opening bid $10 bucks.

You would go back and edit the first post
I have a Edgerrin 1/1 patch up for auction! Bid is now at $10 bucks.

Next post-
Bidder "joescards" I bid $10!

Next post-
Bidder "cardking" I bid $25!

You would now go back and edit the first post again!
I have a Edgerrin 1/1 patch up for auction! Bid is now at $25 bucks.

Etc Etc!!

I think it could work?

Also members WERE making auctions and if they were unsatisfied with the end result they would just cancel it... it was just a mess all-around.

Posted by: edgerrin32 Jun 15 2010, 10:19 PM

I can understand that! And see where that would be a problem!

Maybe a failed transaction? Or if you have to many, maybe a small ban!

I just see where this could be a cool good thing, as long as it wasn't abused! smile.gif

I'm saying that it was discussed that TCC would have to pay fees, to whom I have no idea, if it were to start holding auctions on its site.

Posted by: edgerrin32 Jun 15 2010, 10:52 PM

OK I see! I don't know. Just thought it would be a cool idea. Who knows?

Posted by: ronaldinho0003 Jun 15 2010, 11:21 PM

I think it would get way too out of control. Like Tom stated, approving auctions would bring a mess of cancellations and scams. I would be against it.

Nice idea on paper....maybe in practice a little tougher (as mentioned)

I see a box break going on where they are bidding on the teams? Its working just like I was trying to say here! huh.gif

I know the one you're talking about. Maybe auctions are allowed now and we just never knew. unsure.gif

Yes. Way out of control.

For example: what if the seller didn't like the price he was selling it for?
Suppose the seller was hoping to get $20 for an item, but the highest bid was $4. Is the seller going to charge $16 for shipping? Or will the seller cancel the sale because he didn't get the price he wanted? And what is to stop the seller from doing that? In the end, even if the seller gets banned, he will just submit his item to Ebay with a bid minimum amount. So why bother with all that hassle in the first place if Ebay is already an established entity for auctions?

In a way we already do auctions, just kinda silent ones!

Someone says they have a card and to make a offer. People send offers and presto they get one they like and they post up the sale! I don't know just my thoughts. blink.gif

Well, I'm a member of a domaining forum (If you don't know what domaining is, it's basically buying/selling internet web domains, such as tradingcardcentral.com) and they do auctions in a couple of formats.

Firstly, they do them post-by-post, but terms have to posted in the original post. In this case, terms could be in the form of shipping method, shipping date, shipping cost, etc. Also, the original post MUST have an end time, whether it's 24 hours after the last bid (which means each time there is a new bid, the 24 hours starts over) or a set date/time, whatever the format, there MUST be an end time. If either the seller or buyer defaults, there are penalties up to, and including, being banned from the site. They see auctions as binding agreements and if it's broken, the staff sees that as a breach in contract.

The second method is in live chat. Every week at a set time, the staff runs an auction in live chat. It costs 200 of their forum currency to list your item in the auction (this equals about $4), and the person putting up the card for auction decides starting bid price, reserve price, and buy-it-now price if they want one. They generally put the list up a couple of days before the auction begins so people can look it over and decide what they want, then the auction starts at the specified time. During that live chat, the only people that are allowed to speak are the auctioneers, the seller of the item currently up for auction, and anyone actually making a bid. Once the bids slow down, they actually do the "GOING ONCE" then "GOING TWICE" thing before saying "SOLD." Once it's sold, though, they see it as a binding contract.

I think it's a good system and it they run it very well. If you guys feel up to it, maybe just run it once to see how it works and go from there.

I think that would be a cool thing if it happened!

Sounds like a lot of work, and a pain to deal with the "issues" that will arise. There are other places with more exposure than here for doing auctions, which will get you more in the end on your stuff.

I think the main reason for wanting them here, though, would be to eliminate some of the fees associated with the good auction sites.

I like the idea... but I have some concerns....

Auctioneer isn't happy with price realized, doens't want to sell...

Auctioned off cards lost in transit...

you get the idea....

He never draws up a transaction, the "winner" never pays, so the CZT never has to get involved. Pretty much just like the auction style group breaks that never reach their payment total.

No difference between this and any other sold card getting lost in transit.

LOL, I wish.... laugh.gif

But that isn't going to happen. We will get involved because one party or both will complain... an away we will go...

As far as drawing up a transaction, if you were going to use TCC to auction off your goods some type of posted agreement would be needed to ensure that auctioneer sold the item to the highest bidder... and that the highest bidder would pay.

Then people could go and bid hundreds and thousands of dollars on every auction, win, and then say LOL JK. And there would be no punishment? Same thing as a seller saying, "nah, I want more, no deal".

This has been brought up every year. A couple years ago when I was on the content and graphics team we had several discussions about this. In fact Bob even purchased software and installed it on the server. All conversations and pm's were preliminary however. Im not sure if he's still has the program installed on the present server but at one time mods could even view a sample of what the auction page would look like on TCC. But Bob's been busy so the project I assume was placed on the back burner. Time shall tell and FYI Bob has heard the request of those seeking an auction or alternative to ebay. All I can suggest is for us to be patient.
