I have it from good authority that the price per gallon may go up at least a $1.00 in the next few hours maybe more.

We have seen a 40 cent increase in the past hour at some stations.

Quit reading and go ... NOW....

This is what they all said right after Katrina as well. It never happened. We'll just have to wait and see.

Here we go again with market panic supply and demand. If people panic the price will go up because the "demand goes up", not because there has been interruption to supply...

Very, very true. Of course, the media is fueling (pun intended) the whole thiing with all the headlines about gas possibly reaching $4-$5 per gallon. If it didn't end up causing the price to go up, it would be somewhat funny to watch...

it will happen. just watch the news with all the pumpers and distribution centers shut down on the gulf coast whether it be for a week or just a couple days. There is already rationing going on in much of texas, oklahoma and southern Missouri!!

Dont forget I am in the trucking business, Fuel is very very important to me....I follow it on the OPIS boards as much as I follow the hobby boards!!

I'm not saying that there isn't plenty of talk that it could happen. However, it hasn't yet. It didn't happen right after Katrina like it was predicted and I don't see anything yet about Rita to suggest that it will have more of an effect than Katrina did. In fact, the futures have actually been coming down the last day or so.

We'll all see what happens... I'm confident that we all hope it doesn't go up though. wink.gif

I'll agree....It's seems Panic Driven!

Although, with the major evacuations, and 70% of the Gulf shut down perhaps it's warranted !?

Granted this is speculation like anything, but the last interview I saw with a petroleum representative said that unless the interruption lasts more thn 2-3 weeks there really shouldn't be any effect on the national gasoline supply. This isn't to say that Texas, with everyone trying to fill up and get out (once again, in their automobiles going nowhere), won't see a localized price effect.

Panic causes more problems than most actual events do. That's why people get trampled to death in crowds...(a major reason even as a relatively large and dexterious human, I avoid crowds)...It's the lack of preparedness most people have for the most minor of events that worries me far more than any impending disaster.

Initial reports are that the refineries suffered little to no damage from Rita which is great news. The bigger issue may simply be whether truck traffic can properly flow in and out of the area for a little bit of time.

What a great line.. Gas has reversed itself to $2.69 per gallon here in st louis county sometime early Saturday morning. The price is still expected to rise throughout the upcoming week though

We had a little bump in price....about .30 cents per gallon....from what they're predicting in our area of Texas...about another three to five cents per gallon and it will begin to drop again. We filled up this evening at $2.79 per gallon.
