As many of you have seen I have not been as active this last week. Well I am a manager at an Outback Steakhouse and we have had some major issues.

I figured I would vent on here so as not to piss my wife off as bad

It started last Wednesday. I go into work and while reading my mail I have a subpeona to go to court over a former employee. Well to my suprise a former employee was a registered sex offender and did not register his job which is a requirement. So now I have to go to court this coming Monday to testify on the dates he was employed by me.

Well if that was not enough on Saturday I have a waitress that asks to leave for a bit to run to Wal-Mart for a prescription before the pharmacy closed. I approved her to go and while gone I get a phone call saying she was arrested. From what I understand she was blindsided by an older driver but did not have a liscense. Well I would not worry about this normally but I am told she had her money bag with the customers credit card reciepts. This should have never left the store and my assistant manager is feeling the wrath of this She tells me the police took the bad upon her arrest so I contact them and they say no they did not take anything. If it was just cash I would write it off but to protect the customers the reciepts have to be accounted for. Now I am contacting customers to make them aware of this looking like a fool so they can protect themselves.

As if this was not enough Monday a woman comes in to eat and pays for her meal with a gift card. All seems well. The gift card is already used up which means the card was stolen out of my office. We keep all used cards for tracking and I send them to the main office at the end of each month. So I go out and confront the woman to find out how she got the card. She would not tell me so I ask her to come to my office. I let her know how we track the cards and that it is stolen and if she does not let me know I will be forced to call the police. Well she flat out tells me she deals crack cocaine and one of my waitresses (the same one as mentioned above) bought crack using the gift card. I was stunned she would say it that blatent.

So now I terminated the girl Monday night for theft and Tuesday morning I went and pressed charges about the missing money bag.

This has been a very event filled week!

Charlie I feel for you!!! I am a manager at Old Country Buffet and have had to deal with the same type of things.

Oh, my.

I used to be a manager of a chain restaurant some 20 years ago. I hated every stressful dramatic minute of it.

Sorry to hear your week is going this way, I'd tell you be happy the weekend is coming, but that is probably not good news.

You cant stop crookedness.. no matter how hard you try.

You can only hope that the punishment you dish out by terminating or PROSECUTING the waitress.. gets around to the other employees so that they realize not to follow her example.

Toughness and discipline gets others attention quickly.

Let it be known thru the ranks and files what occurred and what you did.

Charlie, I feel you.

My photographer and advertising manager, who are married to one another, were upset yesterday. My supervisor dealt with the photographer while I handled the ad manager. Let me just say being 21 and a 36-year-old's supervisor is tough. I was just afraid he'd unleash Old Man Strength and sit me down. He just cursed a lot But I got him to calm down and realize his wife's work problems aren't his when they're at work.

Brian - I am not sure about order on the net as I cant fit it in an email but I am having something printed up and maybe in the next week you will get a suprise in the mail

Steve- I am going to prosecute as much as i can. Everytime something like this happens it comes out of my check so I do not appreciate things like that

Richard- sounds like you can have interesting moments also good luck there also

Bryan-- I am not worried about security we have it for our section of the mall. I had ADT and all managers carry panic alarms tied into the 911 system. Other then carry a gun I am as safe as possible and I will not have weapons in a family atmosphere because it not only sends a wrong message it also gives someone the chance to use it.


I look for this weekend to be busy as we have many homecomings this friday. I have 4 interviews tomorrow which hopefully pan out and have a new assistant manager coming in from Pennsylvania

Dang Charlie that is one wild week! I've been in retail management most of my life so I know some of the crap you go through...

Steve is right - Prosecute to the fulliest extent of the law...might not be much but the message will come out loud and clear.

Heck I was an Executive Assistant at a Target that had internal thief that amounted to $1-2 millions!!!! Now that was scary!

Man that is one crazy job! Time to change careers and become an accountant or something real quite.
