has anybody seen one of those factory boxes fo cards, that hold every base card from that season. Im thinking about buying one from last season and wanted to know if anybody had any more info to share. Obviously its a very quick way of collecting all the base cards in a set, but there is no chance of getting a rare card.

Ive seen a few of these sets on Ebay and they look good for their price, but has anybody on here ever bought one. I know Topps do them and I was going to look at getting the Washington Nationals boxset in particular.

I've bought them before when there are good deals and its a quick way to get a lot of cards ..... but it does take a lot of fun out of the collecting. Be careful when you buy a complete set from ebay to make sure you are buying a "factory sealed" set vs. one someone put together with all the common cards (it should cost a lot less). A few times I've won hand assembled sets with lesser quality cards and even cards missing.

Also .. some factory sealed sets come with a few of the chase cards that you can only find in factory sets. So you get a few rare cards .. but you have to break open the set to find out what they are (reducing the value of the set !)

oh dont worry thats my plan anyway, ill enjoy looking through the cards and putting them into a folder/s. Not too bothered about the worth of them, I mean being a factory set, what are the chances that they will become worth something in the future anyway?

To give you an idea on worth, here's some info on the 2004 Topps set...

Complete set (732 cards) is $60 in NM-MT condition while a complete factory set (732 cards; sealed) is $70.

From the base set of 732 cards, the June 2005 issue of Tuff Stuff only lists 5 cards (Jeter, Pujols, Prior, Rodriguez and Garciaparra) individually with each being worth $1.

You'll see similar data for the 2003 Topps set.

For your purpose of having a complete set and learning more about the game and players though, this option is a great one.

Some of the factory sets have done well if they are not opened. The 1997 Topps baseball set is hard to find in a factory set. The Hobby set books for a low of $90 and a high of $150. They sell for over $100 on Ebay. There are a few other years like this as well. Sometimes they are not worth more but you never know, if that year gets underproduced you could end up with a real winner. Just wanted to let you know before you open it up.
