Got my son signed up to play little league recently. Five days after the sign ups were complete I received a phone call from one of the board members who told me that they were short coaches for two teams, one of the teams being the one my son is on. After pulling some strings with my job, and somehow managing to get my schedule jacked up to the point that I'm working 62 hours a week instead of 52, they agreed to let me coach. I know baseball, I love baseball, but I have never coached baseball. This, my friends, will be an adventure!!!! He's playing minor league (8 to 10 year olds), and I should get to meet my team sometime this coming week end.

QUOTE(degibson84 @ Apr 10 2010, 08:57 AM) 8-10 may not be as hard as the 5-7 league, if your town has one, The kids should know alot of the fundamentals of the sport. I am a voluntary DBs coach at the high school i graduated from so all the kids konw the sport just need to have guidance on how to use the skill set that each of them have Leagues here are 4 - 5 plays T-ball, 6 and 7 plays coach pitch, and 8 to 10 are minor leagues and 11 to 13 play majors. After 13 there's high school and some summer leagues for the older kids to be involved in after school is our for the summer.

I'm as proud of my team as I think I could possibly be. We played our first game a week and a half ago and then had two games rained out. As luck would have it, we played the same team today as we played in our first game.
The first game was ugly. I mean UGLY!!! We lost the first game 18 to 1!!!!
Today, in the wind, the cold, and the rain, my boys went out there and played their tails off. Not only did they show improvement, but they WON!!!! We beat the same team that killed us 7 to 5 today. Going into the top of the 6th inning we were down a run and I thought we were going to fall victims to a heart breaking loss. We had them down 4 to 2 going into the bottom of the 5th and they rallied on us and scored three runs on two doubles, a single and a throwing error.
Top of the 6th came around and the first batter to the plate struck out swinging. The next two batters came up and one hit a hard single to third and beat out a throw to first base. He then stole second on a wild pitch and on the very next pitch the third batter of the inning hit a shot in the gap between center and right field. We scored on that play to tie the game. My son was the next batter and he walked so we had runners on first and second with one out. Both base runners advanced on a wild pitch and then my number nine batter in the line up hit a slow grounder up the first base side and I sent the runner from third and he scored on a close play to go up 6 to 5.
The next batter up hit a grounder to short and got a force out at 2nd base. When the short stop turned and threw the ball to second I sent my son from third and he scored to make the score 7 to 5.
The bottom of the 6th was where the magic happened. My pitcher walked the first batter he faced and then struck out the second. On the first pitch the third batter of the inning hit a sharp grounder back to the mound. Brayden picked the ball up, fired to second and the second baseman (one of the best fielders with one of the weakest arms) threw the ball to first for a 1-4-3 double play. It had to be the adrenaline, this kid doesn't have the arm to turn a double play, but today he threw the prettiest ball on a string to first and ended the game.
I can't be any prouder of my guys. After taking the beating from that other team the last time we played them they could have easily laid down and quit when they went down by a run, but they played their tails off and pulled off a major victory. We could lose every game for the rest of the season, but today would make it all worth it!!!!!
