Collector Zone _ Hobby Articles _ Leaf Trading Cards filed suit against Panini

Posted by: MWS Feb 11 2013, 11:23 PM

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a fresh card company vs. card company throw down.

Drought over. On Friday, Leaf Trading Cards filed suit against Panini America for unfair competition and trademark infringement, claiming Panini’s new PRIZM brand is essentially a rip off of technology and marketing terminology that Leaf had been using.

Ok im kinda lost here. Panini used to be Donruss/Playoff. But back in the day wasn't Donruss, Playoff, and Leaf all under the same roof? Or is this a case of 2 brothers that hate each other lol.

But honestly Leaf does have a really strong case here! Those panini cards do look a lot like the Leaf cards. Like the color backgrounds and what not! But then you could also say they are all like Topps Chrome, or even earlier the old school Topps finest!

On another note, I bet if Prizm didn't blow up and was just kinda a average release this may not be happening. Anytime some else do or makes something kinda like yours and theres is a big hit and yours was not so much there is the jealous factor. But those really do mimic the Leaf cards a lot!

Let the rounds begin. I see this one going all 10 rounds. laugh.gif

I think that is a common thought because Donruss owned Leaf and Panini bought Donruss. I guess they didn't pick up the Leaf end of things? blink.gif

Razor bought the rights to use the Leaf name, if im not mistaken. They're no way connected.

Right Razor or another company bought the Leaf name.

This is the civil war of trading cards!!! Brother against brother..I just want to know who does pro set belong too..hehe!!

Oh brother. It's a printing technique, and unless Leaf owns the patent on it, this is silly. They all might as well sue each other for using cardboard.
