The impact of rookie stars Ichiro Suzuki and Albert Pujols on sales of new baseball cards was selected as the hobby's top news story of 2001 by the editorial staff of SCD. Other top stories include Upper Deck signing of Tiger Woods to an exclusive memorabilia contract, the success of Topps Baseball's 50th anniversary promotion and the return of Michael Jordan to the NBA.

The first 1987-dated issue of SCD featured a number of advertisers, but only one was offering new hockey card releases. Collectors could purchase either the 1986-87 Topps or O-Pee-Chee sets for $9.95 (including shipping). wax boxes were $14.95 for the Topps offering and $12.95 for the O-Pee-.Chee

The demand wasn't there for a brand that had no good qualities!!! As we can see they brought that brand back in 2004. The low end price point demand is there...we just want a quality product!

Because of the "quiet" season Ichiro had this past season, his rookie cards are low right now. I think in a year he is to become a free agent. Imagine the impact his cards would have should he come to a large-market team. He would be "investment corner" pick. baby.gif

I have yet to see him pitch. Could you imagine if his very first major league pitch was knocked out of the park? baby.gif
