It's been a very eventful week. On Monday, I got to my centre and noticed something strange about the front door. It had been forced open and the doorknob was badly damaged. It still didn't sink in until I went inside.....the whole place was a mess. Only then did I realize we were robbed over the weekend!

All in all, we lost 2 computers, some petty cash, a few personal effects....totalling about $500. Apparently, 2 other businesses were also hit during the same time period....our neighbour and another shoplot on the ground floor. (My tuition centre is on the 2nd floor).

Unfortunately, the police were not very helpful at all and said that nothing could be done about it. Insurance in Malaysia is maddening to say the least....so it looks as though we're gonna have to just bear the losses ourselves.

In terms of monetary loss, it's minor....the major headache is that many of our accounting and financial files were in the computers. The thieves also broke into our filing cabinets and stole our thumbdrives, which contain the backup files. Thankfully, we've got another backup on hardcopy, but it's gonna take a long time to re-enter all that information.

More importantly, we're thankful that no one was hurt. Last year, another business office not too far away from us was robbed. That time, it happened during the day and the robbers were armed....not too sure of the details but a few people were seriously hurt. Pray that nothing of the sort happens to us....we've got many young students in the centre.

I just hope things will get better soon! The office is still a mess and my poor secretary is overworked as it is sad.gif

Wow! This year has flown by so quickly (don't they all tongue.gif )! I can't believe it's already November! I'm scheduled to complete my masters in psychology in another 7 weeks or so....really looking forward to it! It's been a long, hard road and it'll be a relief to be able to finally graduate!

Work wise, it's pretty slow because most of our students are either already on their year-end holiday or preparing for major examinations. We're taking a bunch of them for a youth camp in early December....should be a blast!

Half-way through the NFL season and the Vikings are doing pretty well considering the offense has been pretty poor to say the least. I'm hoping that they'll at least be able to make it to the playoffs as a wild card....and from there, who knows?

The NBA season has started! Mike Bibby is gonna miss at least 2-3 weeks....hope it'll be nothing more than that. The Kings play at the Timberwolves in their season-opener. Kevin Martin has been a bright spot during the preseason and I hope he'll get off to a strong start. It really is a wide-open NBA and many teams are capable of beating each other....just look at what the Bulls did to the Heat in the curtain raiser.

I'm still saving up some money to buy more football boxes....might go back to Playoff Absolute and perhaps Gridiron Gear since Bowman Sterling is delayed until December. Will be doing a live break once I get some boxes!

Have a great week ahead and thanks for reading! smile.gif smile.gif

It's been an incredible week! First of all, my Playoff Absolute Memorabilia boxes arrived and I had a blast opening them with Shannon (my gf)! We managed to pull a few super cards and all in all it's been a great start to a long-overdue football collection! I'm probably gonna start offloading a major part of my basketball collection in order to get more football boxes! I've basically decided to just keep my Mike Bibby collection plus the few high-end autos that I treasure. Apart from that, it looks like everything else is gonna go!

The Vikings are at 2-0!!! Who'd have thunk it??? tongue.gif
Many were expecting them to go down easily, but it looks like the D is shaping up to be a pretty good unit. Love the OL too! And Chester Taylor....what more can I say?!! We haven't had a consistent backfield presence since Robert Smith called it a day! Hope we'll be able to maintain the consistent play and make it into the playoffs!

The only downer has been watching my beloved Liverpool crash to consecutive league defeats away at Everton and Chelsea. Sigh....a season that was supposed to bring so much promise is now hanging in the balance. The team just doesn't look right and it's getting a little frustrating eventhough we're still in the first few weeks of a 10-month long season.

Well, that's it for today! Have a great week ahead everyone! smile.gif smile.gif

Just realized that it's been quite some time since my last entry! I've been super busy at work and finally submitted my thesis yesterday!! What a relief!

On the collecting front, my 2000 Autographics set has gotten off to a pretty decent start. I've managed to get some nice autos at very low prices! Next up, Jake Delhomme, Brad Johnson, Torry Holt, and Shaun Alexander! I'm also thinking of a way to display them once I've got my wantlist complete! At the moment, the autos I've got are in single screw screwdowns....probably gonna find some way to display them in some kind of wall-hanging case.

Football season is just round the corner and I'm quietly optimistic about the Vikings this year. Like the fact that they've got a pretty good OL and DL this year. Hope that translates into some kind of success.

Well, I've finally ordered some football products too smile.gif Got 10 boxes of 2006 Playoff Ultimate Memorabilia coming in some time next week....keep an eye out for a possible HUGE live break! I promised my girlfriend that she'll get to open them with me....she seems keen on the hobby and that can only be a good thing smile.gif biggrin.gif

Have a great week ahead everyone! smile.gif

The weekend didn't get off to a good start because my beloved Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Sheffield United. Oh well, it's a looooong 50 week season! I'm sure they'll pick up!

Have been down with a throat infection too. Kinda frustrating because I've got tons of work to finish off. Plus, it's exam season for most of my students and I've had to cancel some classes this week.

On the plus side, my new autographics collection is off to a pretty good start! For those of you who don't know, I've decided to collect part of the HUGE 2000 Autographics set. More than a hundred players in the set, so I've decided to concentrate on those that I know and would like!

So far so good! In the past week, I've managed to get Marc Bulger, Edgerrin James, Herman Moore, Corey Dillon, Priest Holmes, Dez White, and Isaac Bruce! Next on my list: Eddie George, Michael Strahan, Peter Boulware, Champ Bailey, Mike Anderson, and Laveranues Coles!

If anyone out there has some 2000 autographics that you're willing to part with, send me a PM! Here's a small list that I'd definitely be interested in!

Mark Brunell
Stephen Davis
Jimmy Smith
Ed McCaffrey
Amani Toomer
Shannon Sharpe
Brad Johnson
John Randle
Mike Alstott
Torry Holt
Darrell Jackson
Jevon Kearse
Tony Gonzales
Cris Carter
Tim Brown
Jason Sehorn
Curtis Martin
Keenan McCardell

Have a great week ahead everyone! God bless! smile.gif

What is it with Malaysian shipping customs??? I got a call this afternoon telling me that a parcel from the US has been detained for inspection because they believe it to be pornography!!! blink.gif blink.gif

When I authorized them to open the parcel, it turned out to be my Sage Exclusives box. Again, they asked me if it was pornographic material. So I asked them this, "what does it say on the box?"

They said that they still need to check it thoroughly and wanted to open all the packs. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

The only way was for me to actually drive there and looks like I'll be busting the box at customs....geez.

Oh yeah, our customs office is in a really ridiculous location....about an hour's drive out of the city. Seriously crazy. I once asked them what would someone who does not drive do? They said it wasn't their problem....that person should find someone to drive them there.

So looks like my Sage live break has to be cancelled unless I can convince them to let me take the box home unopened. sad.gif

Been a real hectic week at work....plus, studies are not really going as well as planned! Managed to pick up some nice cards for my PC this week and hoping for my Sage Exclusives box to yield something special!

Well, the haze is back in Malaysia....and everyone has been getting sick lately. Basically, when our Indonesian neighbours start using slash and burn techniques to clear farmland, the thick smoke somehow makes its way over to Malaysia and it gets pretty bad at certain times of the year. It was horrible last year....visibility was down to 100 feet in certain areas!!! There was even a nationwide alert as the air had reach hazardous-to-health levels.

It's been getting a little bad these past few days. Everywhere I look, I see grey! tongue.gif Hope it clears up a little during the weekend!

Great start to the English Premier League Season! Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Charity Shield...which is a curtain raiser for the start of the season! Proof that teamwork and chemistry is more than a match for the seemingly limitless funds that Chelsea have! I'd love to see some sort of a salary cap enforced for European football....that way, those clubs with millionaire owners will not be able to simply buy success. Case in point: Chelsea spent 30 million pounds....I think that's roughly US$46 million to bring Andrei Shevchenko over from AC Milan....that's just ridiculous!!! Very very very few teams would be able to shell out that kind of money....and slowly but surely, the gap between the mega-rich teams and those that are struggling financially will only widen.
Most smaller teams in Europe only have a transfer budget of around US$2-3 million every year! Crazy!!!

Wow....it's Thursday night! I'm sitting in front of my computer, typing this entry, while my journals and texts are staring whimsically at me from the other side of my desk. Really have to get some work done, but self-discipline is nonexistent at the moment tongue.gif

My Bibby collection has ground to almost a halt in the past month. I've got a few refractors coming in from this year's Topps Finest, but other than that, it's been a case of being outbidded at the very last moment....missed two 1/1s in the past weeks. Oh well, I've got 2 boxes of Finest coming in sometime next week....really hoping for some good cards or at least some trade bait.

Have also been thinking of which player to start collecting next. I've got most of the Bibby that I want....except for the ultra-expensive 1/1s like his Ultimate Collection Logoman patch auto. Leaning a little towards Francisco Garcia because from the little I've seen of him last season, he looks like a pretty decent prospect. Good all-round player with some instinctive defensive skills. Plus, his cards are pretty affordable at the moment.

Oh yeah....the football (or soccer to you guys in the US) season is just around the corner! Can't wait for it to start! I'm seriously hoping that Liverpool will finally be able to mount a strong challenge for the English Premier League trophy this year. Been a die-hard Liverpool fan since 1983 and the past 15 years have been pretty barren in terms of silverware....except for that amazing Champion's League triumph against AC Milan 2 years ago! What a comeback! 3-0 down against the mighty Italians at halftime, we drew level in what has been described as "6 minutes of madness" in the second half and eventually won on penalties! If any of you in the US are wondering what the fuss is all about and if you wanna have a glimpse of sporting history, try and get a copy of this match. It's easily available on DVD. Trust me....it was a roller coaster of emotions and thinking about it now still gives me goosebumps. Liverpool forever!!! You'll Never Walk Alone!!! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Well, another Monday has just come and gone....been a really slow start. I'm doing my masters in psychology on a part-time-distance-learning basis, and my thesis is really taking ages! Part of the reason is my penchant for procrastination....I seem to get better with it as I get older! There seem to be an endless stream of reasons to help me justify finishing it tongue.gif

On the card collecting front, things have been equally slow. I'm waiting for a couple of Bibby refractors from this year's Topps Finest to come in. Also just sent in my redemption number for Bibby's Exquisite auto patch....hoping that UD won't take 6 months with it!

Hoping to do a live case break soon....but don't think it's gonna materialize unless I manage to save up the money! Aiming for Topps Finest Football and it's late September release....fingers crossed!

Best wishes and a great week ahead to all who are reading this! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
