So, I'm trying to send money to someone but when I log into my PayPal it says:

We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.

Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

And it asks me for my credit card number or bank account number.

I'm afraid to put anything in! I don't know if the site's been hacked or what. Anyone else notice this?

I wouldn't do anything on PayPal until they get this cleaned up.

I tried to print some shipping labels & they would not process anything.

I think they are just getting some stuff cleaned up, so I'd wait.

Problem is, I need a verified pin in order to call PayPal. I can't get the pin without giving them this information.

A friend of mine got me the phone number and all is well now.

Turns out my fiancee used my PayPal on her computer today, to purchase a surprise gift for me: a 1/1 Gary Payton card. It's a surprise no longer, but it's a wonderful end to a stressful past hour.

Usually when Paypal or some other site I frequent does something strange like that I will either try to refresh hoping that is was a glitch, or do the safer thing by leaving the page and then coming back after going to Google or some other safe site. These type of strange happenings is why I usually use my bookmarks for all my sites.

Could you elaborate? Did you go to PayPal from a bookmarked link, by typing it into your browser, or a search engine link?

It was on PayPal's official site. I have it bookmarked, and it did it. Googled PayPal, clicked on official link, and it did it. Went to PayPal from a receipt e-mail I had, it did it. There was no way around it, haha.

I called PayPal and they told me it was legitimate and not to worry.

Are you sure the exact same thing happened to you? You went to https://www.paypal.com, and after logging in, a page loaded talking about security measures, then asking to verify either your credit card or bank account?
