WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
what ya gonna do when acemania runs over you.. BROTHER!
better take your vitamins and say your prayers!!
OH Boy! (said as Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap)
I recall a few years back I tried this thing, it drove me nutty trying to come up with what to post. I think I made it past one round maybe. My problem was knowing some of the HOFers of the sports I don't follow, or not having a card in one category (and forgetting I had a Goodwin Champs or A&G card of that sport).
My biggest challenge will be finding where I have my cards from some of the categories, and not getting my neck broken by Aceman.
OK I guess I'm in.
Surprised we haven't heard from the saucy one in here chippin off about his newly acquired goods.
A card no more than BV $50? I haven't bought a Beckett price guide in years. Would there be an official single consultant for this?
Certainly. And value is also condition sensitive.
I'll volunteer to be Steve's punching bag.
should be awesome.
I would be interested
uhoh.. as acee feigns a hamstring strain..
I dont have a beckett either
this BV clause may disable the former champ..
I'm in as well. I'm going to have the same handicap (no beckett).
Guys, I will donate my time as an official price checker. Simply PM me with the card(s) you need a check on, for this contest only, and I'll give you a price.
Please note I'm not going to guarantee my response times, but I'll be as prompt as possible.
Wait a minute handicaps and accidents? Is the the Special Battle Royal? I might have a chance then cause I'm Sppeeecial.
Acee bring it brother the Chipster's rebuilt PC fears noone!
Plus im good at Marc's contests
Final rule: It's a beauty.
No card used may be valued at more than $50 BV. In the case that a card is too scarce to book, another contestant may challenge it.
This prevents me from Entering LOL

If you choose baseball and use cards from an AL team, you must have both a DH and a P as well as the other positions. All players must have the same team on their uniforms.
Entries must be posted by 11:59 PM on Tuesday August 4th.

Acee 264 just brought u the heat brother
a team filled with a bunch of cheesehead wannabes and whozits!
I could assemble a better packers team than that and where is kicker and punter?
i mean he couldnt even assemble an all 264 lineup!
toss em out of the ring to at least the first row of fans!
Waiting for Mr. Murray to throw out his Canadiens.....or will he shock and awe with some Heinz 57?
Well....since Mr. Cubbie Ace stole my thunder, I'm gonna have to shake it up a bit. You might have Cardinals, but a Cards fan would never throw out all the biggest names. You gotta throw some diversity in there and showcase some fan favorites my friend so.........

As you can see, the Cubbies are going to have a tough time getting anything to drop in for a hit today.
You might have the greats........but I got all of em.
Even this guy:

Here's my entry...I was going to post a Washington Redskins team, but I didn't want to "say my prayers and eat my vitamins" like the racist one, BROTHER! Being that Washington has a non politically correct team name, I will avoid them during this round...sorry Joe Theismann, Art Monk, Sean Taylor, The Hogs, etc.
This is a BATTLE ROYAL...not a HR Derby or a Punt, Pass, Kick competition...it's a battle royal with rasslers!
So here are the TEAM members that comprise the tag TEAM group better known as the Beautiful People. Who doesn't like a bit or a whole lot of TNA.
Any backlash to my submission makes you "one of the ugly people" as the Beautiful People put it and also qualifies you for a Makeover!
The Beautiful People are:
Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, Lacey Von Erich and "fashionist" Kip James
http://s6.photobucket.com/user/jaderock1/media/EPSON217%20-%20Copy_zpslruu5le7.jpg.html
As for the bench we're gonna look to the future with the exception of a rebooted pitcher and a veteran who hit for power:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B1_zpsyghm4kye.jpg.html
Jack Clark
the powerful and speedy youngster
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B2_zpspk7bzazl.jpg.html
Kolten Wong
the pitcher turned power-hitting rightfielder
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B3_zpsced1uzzf.jpg.html
Rick Ankiel
the utility guy
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B4_zpsjqeiuvep.jpg.html
Pete Kozma
Some pinch-hitting power
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B5_zpsdp6kcqks.jpg.html
"Big City" Matt Adams
and I guess we'll need a catcher. I'd like to go with this guy who grew up across the street from Yogi Berra and was regarded as the better prospect out of high school:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B6a_zpsduqizu1c.jpg.html
1951 Bowman Joe Garagiola
but sticking with my all autograph theme I'll go with this promising prospect
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/B6b_zpsyletatly.jpg.html
Sean Bean (kinda looks like the kid that played young Archie "Moonlight" Graham in Field of Dreams.
jaderock definitely has the best lookin team.....with the exception of that Kip guy.
you want a bench for my cardinal team

I googled it and not even in the broadcasting hall of fame. He won the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting in 2012.....so technically a HOFer, but not really.
As stated earlier, Poser.
Dang what a way to start this thing. Sheesh. OK so I'm gonna kick it old school with my Homie Senators.

Dang! Did you see that Jerry? Baj jumped in the squared circle and tried to clear the ring with a hockey stick. He's gone insane. I don't think anyone went over the top (except maybe acee)....but he's got these rasslers runnin for cover.
i just ducked and swatted, shades of mr miyogi training!
5 hours and 18 minutes left to get those entries in. This is just the first round and I'm sure everyone has enough base to field a team. Don't let these so-called heavyweights intimidate you. Every point counts and you can't get points if you don't post.
Let's go!
I see Dekno lurking under the apron. Are we about to see Cardinals team #3?
dekno and bravesfan must have slipped between the second rope and are setting outside like they have been eliminated!
classic heel wrestling move!
hope our ref is keeping an eye on things!
hey who is our ref anyway?
Still waiting on the Archaeologist and the Brew Crew as well......perhaps they got cold feet.

who let the newbie in the ring.. someone is going to get hurt
I've been trying to get some back channel discussions going for an "As many cards as you want of one player" category, but no luck so far. Pretty sure that's the only way I don't get hurt
When did the Book Value price change? thought it was still no cards over $50 in bv lol
1st Rd scores have been posted. PM being sent to aceecards for Rd2 category suggestion. In the interim, let's see those funny cards.
Funny Cards?
There is the classic 1970s Wacky Packages but they are technically stickers.
Oh since the Presidential Campaign for 2016 is in full swing now...
love the old wacky packages
That's what I'm talking about. Bossk does kinda resemble.......nevermind.

1969 man on the moon
Wow tough is right... not impossible, but tough.
Ugh.....this is going to be bad. Thankfully I am fleeing the ring to bask in the glow of the birth of my granddaughter tmrw. Contractions 10 minutes apart.....update you all tmrw.
My sole entry before I depart.....
Wow lets see I don't have any pre 1970 Wrastling, Boxing or Golf but I have some of t'others. Favorites? Hmmm real tough I have a few well lets see what I can dig up from the middle of my hoard...
BASEBALL:
tempting to show one of my oldest but I'll go with one of my faves.
1965 Ernie Banks
FOOTBALL:
1958 Sonny Jurgensen RC
HOCKEY:
Do I have anything pre-Capitals 1974? Yep
1961-62 Dick Meissner
BASKETBALL:
A tall one in reality image looks a bit short.
1969 Wes Unseld Ruler
NON-SPORT:
1952 Wings F4U Corsair
Son of a...
Pass
Im not 50 like the rest of you
The truth is the Ernie Banks is the only one of those I showed that I have had for as long as I can remember. The Next "longest" one I got was the Jurgensen I got from Ebay in Oct 2009, The Useld Ruler and the Wings card I also got from Ebay a few years later (I'm too lazy to check my mailblog for those right now, the Jurgensen took long enough to hunt down the date) the Hockey one I recall getting with another vintage Hockey card a few years ago from a sportlots auction I think. So Yaz don't gots to be over 50 to get 50+ year old cards. (actually 45 years + for the contest round rules) Just need the determination to hunt them down and look for whatever price you are willing to get them for. Some of them vintage cards are really really surprisingly cheap. People tend to think of the super cards like Mantle Rookies and Babe Ruth cards from when he actually played and how expensive those are they tend to forget that the "commons" from many of those sets/years are still affordable in some cases.
I have ONE card from that time frame LOL 58 topps eddie mathews
you cant win if you dont show..
Unfortunately, I sold most of my non-hockey vintage cards as part of my estate sale.
I do have a couple of baseball left, of which this is my submission:
1950 Bowman Johnny Vander Meer:
http://sportscardalbum.com/c/7eys7qox.jpg
and for hockey, a 1968-69 Topps Jean Beliveau:
http://sportscardalbum.com/c/40560a1u.jpg
And by the way, since I turn 59 next week, I'm not only "Over the hill", but also working my way towards "down in the valley"!
Here are my entries
1967 Coke Bottle Cap Harmon Killebrew
1969 Rebounds Leaders Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld and Lew Alcindor
1963 Stancraft Playing Card Six of Hearts Jim Thorpe

Not vintage but Brand New and Priceless
Sydney Adalyn born at 8:16 PM this evening. Made the 12 hr trek and made it with 45 minutes to spare. Accompanying by her parents.
Congrats!
Had to get creative on this one, but we'll get to that.
First, I'll see you a legendary rookie and raise you and HOFer:

1969 Topps 4-in-1 Bryan Piccolo RC/Chris Hanburger(HOF)
I tried to Shatner you last year, but that didn't work. So, let's try a Vulcan Death Grip:

1967 Leaf Star Trek #10 Spock's Box
This set was only released in 3 states making it highly sought after by non-sports collectors and Trekkies alike.
Now for my oldest and favorite card:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/pepper_zpsty7str6k.jpg.html
1935 Diamond Stars (produced by the National Chicle Co.) #26 Pepper Martin
This is where I had to get creative. I thought I was finished. But. Then I remembered that Alex Karras was a professional wrestler while suspended from the NFL for gambling. So

Congrats Bob,
Bob wins for newest acquisition to life collection.
Spock and Super Bowl Shuffle I Got da Bears 45 (only a few educated "under 50" crowd knows what they are Hehe) and the "Stamp" 4in1's. Cool.
The Thorpe Stancraft card also cool.
I'm lovin that 50 Bowman Vander Meer.
Submissions are closed. I'll have the voting up this afternoon. Good luck fellas.
not much to vote on? 4
Well this day didn't go as planned, but I can almost hear that celebration music-
Well they call me Sweetness and I like to dance. Runnin the ball is like makin romance. We had a goal since trainin camp to make msw a Battle Royal champ. Now we're not doin this because we're greedy. The TCC is doin it to feed the needy. We didn't come here lookin for trouble. We just came here to win a Royal Rumble......
Voting will be up within the hour and run until 11:59PM on Saturday August 15th.
Instead of cards to pass the time.....how bout some YouTube links to your favorite sports related music video or movie clip.
For the young guys who don't know what The Super Bowl Shuffle is and for the over 50 crowd whose memories are a bit foggy. Click below:

I had to go to Vimeo to get it and the resolution is terrible, but you get the idea.
Since there were only 4 entries that satisfy the terms of this round and two of those are very loose interpretations, a half point for every category submitted will be awarded to those who were unable to fulfill the complete terms of this round. In addition, Mr. 264 gets a point for showing us his new grandbaby.
Bob,
Sad to hear about your Father-in-law. A bitter-sweet time for your family. Glad you can find time to keep us updated.
Votes have been tallied and updated scores have been posted. Enjoy a nice refreshment and we'll get Round 3 under way soon!
OK Ladies and Gentleman, this is your last chance to get in(which you will unless you're skeered, yella maggots!).
Round 3 Category- Beautiful Base Cards
Show any base card that would entice a non-collector to begin collecting.
Last Chance to Get In the Ring
Show us what ya got!
Round 3. Fight!
what a brutal category
any base card?
any sport?
no restrictions>?
Any base card. No restrictions.....we're gonna let some of the lightweights get in the ring so we can really rumble.
I don't know if I'll go with sport or non-sport on this one...
Just one card?
Hmmm I might be going down to the wire on this one.
I have about 100 ideas of where i wanna go with this
just... which one
I have chosen
I deliberated for a long time between the 1972 topps in action Roberto Clemente which is still one of my favorite photos of all time on a card, the 1955 Bowman Hank Aaron which is a pure thing of beauty the 92 ud hockey time elapsed photo of gretzky, the 89 ud time elapsed photo of nolan ryan and instead chose an iconic affordable card of someone everyone knows.
http://s1235.photobucket.com/user/collectorshotcorner/media/Baseball%20graded%20rookies%20sketches%20and%20inserts/20140541_zps24af76f6.jpg.html
look at the sheer expression of joy of MJ's face and the back mentions the words "upper deck"
So here folks is arguably the greatest basketball player in the world 3 years before he would forego a four peat to join the white sox minor league birmingham barons.
Its affordable and a great card to build a foundation on in either baseball or basketball or both!
I interpreted this category a bit differently focusing on CARD DESIGN and not a player, so I choose 1995 Pacific Crown Royale Base cards. The 1995 was unique, stunning and attractive because the base cards (rather than inserts) were die cut rather 4 cornered. The gold foil crown really makes the design pop. The 1995 set was so popular that it continued yearly as a concept until 2002 when the company was dissolved. The design is so desirable that it was brought back by Panini in 2011.
The top left is the 1995 Crown Royale followed by 96, 97, 98, 99 and 2000. It just so happens that Mark Brunell is pictured in each one
http://s6.photobucket.com/user/jaderock1/media/EPSON223_zps7hsnixe9.jpg.html
I think each of you is half right. It has to be a great design with a quality player. While we're at it, why grab one non-collector when you can get the whole family involved. Thus, I present you with:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/gio_zps2eeetwz7.jpg.html
2015 Topps Archives Giancarlo Stanton
One of the hottest young stars in the game featured on a classic 83 Topps design that Dad can appreciate. Reasonably priced and perfect for father/son bonding.
Wow. That was pretty good. I think Topps should hire me to write ad copy for them.
Let's see those BASE CARDS!!!!!! Time to get in the ring. This thing's far from over, but you got no shot if you don't post by midnight tonight.
Round 3 Category- Beautiful Base Cards
Show any base card that would entice a non-collector to begin collecting.
I believe this will entice a non-collector to start collecting. Most of the collectors today are guys, theirs some girls out their that collect cards but most are guys.
http://s202.photobucket.com/user/dekno2/media/baseball%20autos/scan0007_zpsqblvnix4.jpg.html
DEKNO, no brass knuckles or hitting below the beltline
In showing off the beauty of a base card and attempting to get new collectors interested, I would use a combination of the old and the new.
For the old, I would suggest the classic 1963 Topps design, but for the new, it would be from the Heritage set and would feature the best player currently in the game!
http://sportscardalbum.com/c/untoz1s4.jpg
im on fire, please come put me out!
mike trout needs a subway card
Self explanatory. If you grew up or collected in the 80s you wanted this card. 1982 traded ironman rc.
I thought of it as both the card design being pretty and the subject matter. So I went a bit Old-School Non-Sport "Pretty in Pink" as it were.
1977 Topps Charlies Angels Series One #46 "A Cop In Hot Pants!"
Here is a card back of card #45 "A Funny Caper!"
(even has the beauty of typical 1970s Topps Miscutting)
Life has kicked me down, but I ain't out........
Was going to go with a 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr RC Base card and an iconic card for drawing collectors to the fold.
But, had to be true to my passion and submit this base card from the 1998 SPx Finite set:
Upper Deck introduces serial #d sets, which can be considered an improvement to the hobby or the death, due to parallels......
NO....I don't have the dang Manning #d 264/........ But I do have a bunch others.....
that is one purty jaclyn kmart smith!
manning oh that manning!
264 i thought about using my ud griffey too
Fresh blood in the water. Bout time they crawled out from under the mat. Voting is up. I'll have links to the submissions up this afternoon.
It's time for SUDDEN DEATH!!!
There are 5 rasslers lurking around the arena who said they wanted in, but haven't made their way to the ring. At this point, it will be an uphill battle, but not an impossible feat.
These rasslers have approx. 24 hours to post the favorite card in their collection or they will be DQ'd and we will proceed with those contestants in the ring:
progr@m217- 0
kooljazz1966- 0
19th Century Indiana Jones- 0
cbware88- 0
pavi39- 0
Post your favorite card.
Starting the 10.count.
DQed. acee must have tied em up and shoved em in the closet with the ref.
Round 4 will begin shortly.
Round 4: Retro-fitting
Any sport. Show us your best card from a retro-themed product (A&G, Mayo, Heritage, etc.)
All entries must be posted by Tuesday at Midnight.
Whatcha got?!
Even though Hockey cards do not attract the same attention as other sports (and non-sports as well ) I'm going to keep banging my head against the wall!
In 1996, Parkhurst issued a set of cards celebrating the last year of the NHL's Original 6. There were no memorabilia cards in the set, and only 2 player autographs. I bought 3 boxes and was lucky enough to pull autographs of each player.
Here is my submission:
Bobby Orr:
http://sportscardalbum.com/c/0h0jzyf5.jpg
Hopefully Jon Stewart will not jump into the ring and use a chair on me (for no apparent reason!)
http://s1235.photobucket.com/user/collectorshotcorner/media/Baseball%20Autos/051_zpsc0f80001.jpg.html
i just leave it at that!
Awesome Bobby Orr!!!!
Jeter? Never heard of him.
Gotta Bring Out the Gloves on this one. Although it might not be Autographed Its a HEAVY HITTER!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://s202.photobucket.com/user/dekno2/media/scan0011_zpsqxy5gsro.jpg.html
chris you shoulda pulled out danica!
More 264/ Love Allen & Ginter's style......
i still get by the way i have the national promo!

I was going to use this:
1996-97 Fleer Goudey Mini Autograph YA Tittle
http://s6.photobucket.com/user/jaderock1/media/_12_zpsgw5jxggx.jpg.html
but figured I would go old school, ECW style, and bring in a weapon to smash over your heads. I present:
1993 Goudey Babe Ruth Porcelain Reprint!
http://s6.photobucket.com/user/jaderock1/media/T2eC16VHJHgE9n0yFjVDBRTZNi3fw60_12_zps3ulikfk5.jpg.html
Oh man....so many great entries. Don't think I can compete, but if the clock doesn't expire on me first, I'll give it a try.
This was so hard for me. I'm still torn over what I should post. I'm a sucker for retro products and, as a result, I'm left with a difficult decision. My collection is a bit narrow in focus and none of my GU and autos of the Cardinals greats are on retro products which makes the decision even more difficult.
I thought about going with 1 of my 2 favorite retro GU cards:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/1_zpsdzcezpa2.jpg.html
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/2_zpsz9vrfqbo.jpg.html
I don't think they'll be good enough.
So then I thought maybe I should go with my favorite player of all-time on my favorite brand:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/3_zpspopfukfg.jpg.html
I just don't think GU is going to cut it though, so maybe an auto of one of the new St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame inductees:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/4_zps0qc7sgqa.jpg.html
But I just don't think that would be truly appreciated by anyone who isn't a Cardinals fan....you can't please everyone so I'll just work on pleasing myself.
I have to go with an auto of my favorite current Cardinals player on my favorite brand:
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/5_zpsuvvqhi8r.jpg.html

This commercial break has been brought to you by American Standard.
While we wait for the next round to begin, how bout some of your favorite non-card memorabilia.
Hmmm I don't have a full scan of the individual items but I have a group pic of two original 1960s Senators hats and a Senators Team Bat.
Great pic Kirk...apparently, I can't comprehend what Marc said...lol

so now i got to think really hard about what who and why..
Hmm I'll have to check my auto cards. I haven't personally gotten any signed in person so I don't know if they were "in person" or "through the mail" or signed at gun-point by some weirdo card company executive, but I do have some signed cards that are not the regular certified auto cards.
I gotta go with the smartest man in baseball. Signed at an ARF event.
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/FieldMGR_zpsm276svly.jpg.html
Have to go with the only card I ever got signed

forest park world team tennis
Since I can't submit the Forum seat pictured earlier, I'll go away from hockey for a bit:
http://sportscardalbum.com/c/2omc8e2m.jpg
NADA.....No IPOs.....
As I said I don't have any personal In Persons, but I do have some signed cards that are regular issued cards that somebody signed. Here is one of the first ones I got.
Can't say I got this myself as the only in person autos I've ever gotten was Leo Nomollini (sp) on a wrestling magazine when he was the promoter of AWA wrestling in SF. However, I have plenty of in person autos from a collection I purchased from a "busty" female collector. She says that was her biggest asset in getting players to sign!
Of the three, I choose lance alworth
http://s6.photobucket.com/user/jaderock1/media/image.jpg1_zpsnuwd6kbu.jpg.html
WOW.
id say we got a lot of brass knuckles in the ring and that results in multiple disqualifications .. doesnt it?
Brass knuckles? Where? I don't see no brass knuckles.
Im calling my posse
Lol @ Mean Street Posse.
Is it too late to submit?
The Round 5 poll is up. Sorry it took so long. I took the day off to get caught up on things so hopefully this will run a little quicker from here on out.
The votes have been tallied. The defending champ, aceecards, sent jaderock over the top rope. Guess he'll be jaderockin on the apron from here on out.
wont be making fun of the mean street posse anytime soon will he?
Mr264 slides back into the ring......
Round 6 Category: Best card of a Heisman Trophy Winner.
Blue 42, Blue 42, Hot Route, Hot Route, Hike!
I'll kick things off with the first Sophomore to ever win a Heisman
http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/ForLoveOfTheGame13/media/Football%20Autos/2012PrestigeTebow_zpsf30f3a8c.jpg.html
2012 Prestige Tim Tebow #15 autograph 9/15
I'll avoid the obvious, and go for the historical:
Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman. Also, one of the most heartbreaking football stories. (Read about it here: http://espn.go.com/classic/biography/s/davis_ernie.html)
http://sportscardalbum.com/c/61w71p58.jpg
The Express! Nice card.
i could go with the only 2 time winner
http://s1235.photobucket.com/user/collectorshotcorner/media/Football%20Autos%20Heisman%20Winners/2050_zpst8ngtz4f.jpg.html
or the first freshman winner
http://s1235.photobucket.com/user/collectorshotcorner/media/Football%20Autos%20Heisman%20Winners/2039_zpsfd48b878.jpg.html
or a really nice dual tag dual auto #/4
http://s1235.photobucket.com/user/collectorshotcorner/media/Football%20Autos/016_zpsnmzgnhhh.jpg.html
but im not..
Im going with the heisman winner who epitomized the trophy as a college player, as a navy vet in vietnam, as a cowboy super bowl winner and a pro football HOFer
Roger the dodger Staubach

i think ryback may be doing clobberin time now too
Was going to play this guy, who is trying to make a come back...
Forgot the knee...
But, I will share this one of the following year winner.... 264 Style of course
Don't have time to look for one of the RGIII autos I think I have, or a base Sammy Bradford RC. So I'll just go a bit old school. I think someone had this one wrapped in their PB&J back in elementary school.
1974 Wonder Bread 19 Jim Plunkett
plunkett.. isnt he like a bad trivia question??
only two time super bowl winner not to be in the hof..
Yea .... he has got that going for him
Mr 264 and the Captain just raised the bar, fellas.
Times up.....
Round 6 poll is up. Good luck, fellas! Closes Saturday night at midnight.
It's gettin real in here. Down to 5 wrasslers in the ring. Bajmurray snuck up behind msw_sportscards and dumped him over the top rope. He grabbed a chair and slid under the ring. Round 7 coming soon.
I will jump into the ring and get his party started with this youngster.....of course all are 264 style...
