Collector Zone _ Everything Else _ T-H-I-N-K before you post!

Posted by: RGBII Oct 12 2007, 08:24 AM

These posts have a lifetime that will surpass all of ours. Your great, great grandchildren could read these in some far off archive. Armed with that scary thought, I'm going to make a vow today to do exactly what the title says.
I am as guilty, if not more so, than anyone of letting my fingers function while my brain lags.
If you are posting in anger, retribution or just plain meanness, take a moment to realize the power of the written word. In this age of instant gratification and communication, it is sometimes difficult to focus on the future ramifications of ones immediate thoughts.
The younger members must know that their reputations are being built here in their own words. You will grow to value that reputation. Take what you write here seriously, rest assured, that someone will.
The adult members have to keep in mind that the examples that we set are as permanent as these posts. It is a large responsibility and should be treated as such.
I will T-H-I-N-K before I post.

Fortunately, we do have a fallback that Bob has put into place for us. When cooler heads prevail, the almighty EDIT button can do a lot, but just like when you say something in life, once its out there, you can never FULLY retract it.

Great post Richard!

Well said Richard, and Tom! I am, and have always been an avid supporter of the "Think before you Post" slogan, I do my best to live by it. That may be one reason I only just reached "HOF Status" a year and a half after I became a TCC Member. I try hard to only contribute to a topic if I truly have something worth while (or at least worth while in my eyes) to say. wink.gif

post of the year ^ nice

Richard,

Great post, what you said shouldn't have to be said. You're absolutely right and I have been as guilty of it as anyone else on here. I think we all understand that there are days where we are frustrated, and I think that we all know that there are certain members of this board, or any other board for that matter, that just drive us absolutely insane from time to time.

I agree that I am confrontational at times, and there's probably nothing I can do to change that, it's something that is in my blood. But I absolutely agree with you 100% that everyone, including me, can improve their posts if the sit back and take a deep breath before posting. As bad as some of mine have been at times....they would have been a lot worse if I hadn't checked myself a little. biggrin.gif

i'm sure it is, I just don't see why it needs to be made an issue. that is why i asked if there have been some problems with this recently. For the most part, i haven't had much, if any, confrontations on this site, and the posts i read generally are not ones that could even provoke an incident that would need attention. I realize that there are political posts and others of that nature that pop up now and then, but then again, what are those posts doing on a site like this anyway. Topics like religion and politics are only going to cause problems and should be expected to draw some questionable content.

Posted by: kc_royals_fan_5 Oct 12 2007, 10:52 AM

Just b/c you personally haven't had an issue w/ someone here, doesn't mean someone else hasn't. And maybe Richard has seen something you haven't. An occasional reminder to be respectful doesn't hurt anyone. We're not trying to be mean. We just want this to be a fun place for everyone. smile.gif

Richard, time and time again you have been insightful and surprisingly sagacious on issues like this. Thanks for articulating my headache last night.

Also... GREAT THREAD!

Richard,

No wonder you were asked to join the Content Team! That's one of the best posts I've read in a while - everyone should heed the advice offered!

Posted by: chopinalex Oct 12 2007, 04:46 PM

I love everyone on TCC!

Posted by: dviv17 Oct 12 2007, 05:03 PM

Great post, Richard! I think most of us are guilty of this, and it is great advice. Everyone should try and follow what Richard says here, it will tremendously help your reputation, as Richard says. Following this will also greatly help your attitude, and you'll generally emit a much more positive vibe in your posts.

well, in case my great great grandchildren read this.... GO COLTS! And if you sell off my colts collection after I pass I will haunt you every day.

I wanted to "refresh" this thread as some members are definitely crossing the line in what is acceptable behavior here at TCC.

TCC is a family orientated site, those who have a hard time remembering that when making inappropriate posts will be reminded with a suspension.

Wow. After a couple of days of dealing with a few, well, unpleasant characters I find this post. Sometimes you really do have to keep in mind that you may be dealing with a child on the other end of the keyboard (or an adult acting like one) and when confronted with ignorance the quickest way to let it die is to ignore it.
In my case it is even more important because there is and always has been a segment of this hobby that has anger and dislike towards card shops which is truly unfortunate. That being said when some venom is hurled our way because we are a business I should be used to it and allow it to roll of my back.
It must be the mix of Italian and Greek in my backround that makes me confrontational but I printed out the post and am taping it to my desk here in the office.
DEEP BREATH..... I feel better already smile.gif

So do we have someone in the classroom today that needs to write "I will think before I post" 100000000000 times? That should be our newest punishment instead of suspensions, you must submit a 1,000 of that sentence hand written.

Folks, I don't like having to breathe life
back into this topic but some of the posts
here of late are either skirting or in
direct violation of site rules.

"You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use the TCC Collector Zone to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law."

This is the 5th paragraph in the guidelines
that each and every member agreed to when
your accounts were being approved. It appears
in the blue contents banner at the top of your

I do not like bringing this thread back from
the crypt but it appears that it is required.

We don't condone bickering in the trade
threads.

We don't allow snarky, mean or libelous
posts against another member.

Folks, it's like this . . .

before posting, reread your comment(s).
If you would find them even mildly offensive
(if posted about you) don't post it.
