I guess you can say I am lucky living in the Chicagoland area. We are blessed with many great athletes and with teams/stores that host public signings. The Chicago Bears and the Chicago Blackhawks are the best for this.
So with that being said I thought I would start a thread and chronicle my IP autograph collecting. I usually get at least 1 a week, sometime more.
I will update this as I obtain the autographs (will only be IP auto's). My first update will be from this past weekend when I met Brent Seabrook.
Please keep coming back to check the thread as I add because there are many players still scheduled to meet this month.
So far this month I am scheduled to meet the following athletes in person as well:
Derrick Rose 3/13
Mike Singletary 3/12
Jim McMahon 3/12
Mike Vick 3/12
DJ Moore 3/12
Yale lary 3/12
Phil Regan 3/12
Sam bradford 3/13
Charlie Joiner 3/13
Roger Wehrli 3/13
Bob Love 3/26
Tomas Kopecky 3/15
Mike Hardenstien 3/26
Bob Avellini 3/26
Kurt Becker 3/19

Now for the pics of the additions!

I can't wait, this thread should go far.
Happy Collecting!

Hope to see more adds!
Do you pay for the autos most of the time or are the free signings or kinda a mix?
Majority of the signings are free some are paid. There is a convention this month and I am paying for most of those
I've gotten ditka, butkus, rose, Bo Jackson, hester, cutler all free plus much more
thats awesome man! keep 'em coming I have some nice signed photos and what not but nothing like the amount you have i'm guessing!
Went to a signing today that I forgot to list previously. Got Kevin Butler from the '85 Bears. I have met him before and as usual he was super nice. I ended up getting 5 things signed! 4 items for me and 1 item for a charity raffle that my friend does for Make a Wish foundation.
A cool side note to this signed was who I happened to see standing around. None of than Ted Hendricks. His wife runs these events with Miller Lite all the time with various 1985 bears. She is super sweet and always makes sure people get their autographs. However this was the first time I had seen Ted at any of the events. No one else recognized him. I mentioned to the older man in line with me that I thought that was Ted Hendricks and he walked up to him and said "hey no one recognized you except that guy over there" and he pointed to me. I nodded at Mr. Hendricks and he smiled back and then wandered off not to be seen for the remainder of the signing. It was clear her was there to visit his wife and not to be bothered. I just thought that was too cool not to share.
Pics are below.
Anyone interested in this thread? Doesn't seem to get a lot of replies.
Time for another update! This will be a bit of a longer one. I went to the Mounted Memories convention today and met a few athletes and picked up some items via wheeling and dealing.
The convention continues tomorrow so I will be adding another post with more pics. My prize of the convention will be signed tomorrow so I can't wait to share that.

Sweet stuff
My back is killing me so this update will be mainly pics. Maybe I will fill in with the back stories later.
Two post update. 1st post will be pics of the athletes, second will be pics of the signed items.

As for that Heisman piece, thats is just
Keep it up man! I'm only 3 hours away from Chi, maybe I need to start going to stuff.
Come on out in August. The National show will be in town.
I really am hoping to make it. And might be meeting a online friend there as well, that I have never meet. But its all going to depend on if I have the money. Its not just the money to get in or buy things, but have to pay for gas, food, if we do a hotel (so I could go the next day), and others. But it is on my list. So can hope for the best.
Another update. Met Tomas Kopecky last night. Very nice guy. Had him sign a copy of the "One Goal Achieved" book which is about last years championship run. That brings the total signatures on the book to 5.
These were taken with my cell phone so not the best quality.
So today's update will be Kurt Becker from the 1985 Bears. Talk about a nice guy! I had him sign 4 things for me in total. 2 were items that are being donated for a raffle where 100% of proceeds go to the Make A Wish Foundation. Then I had him sign 2 Super Bowl XX programs, one for me, and one for a co-worker.
Very cool Congrats.
Ok, so big update today! Long day as well! There wass an "autograph fest" at a local card shop today. 3 players through out the day, first one starting at 11am and the last one starting at 3pm. The players were Bob Avellini, Bob Love and Mike Hartenstine.
Not to make a long post any longer but if anyone is interested I can go into further detail later but Bob Avellini really put me on the spot and asked my opinion on the lockout. I told him and we have a 5+ minute exchange about it. He got a bit heated while giving his views but it was all within a pleasant conversation, even if I did start to sweat! LOL
Anyway, here is the important stuff, the pics! Enjoy.
The Athletes:
Mike Hartenstine
Bob Avellini
Bob Love
The Items:

Quick update today. Found out at about 3pm that Denis Savard was signing at a bar during the Hawks game. Took the 30 minute drive and scored 2 pucks with cool inscriptions. Cell phone pics again

Spin-O-Rama
Very cool. Nice way to rush to the bar.
yeah I can imagine that rush to the bar being like a dukes of hazard car ride! Congrats on the spin-o-rama!

Time for another update!
This update will be from two days this week. First being from Wednesday March 30th which is when I volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House and worked the High School All-American weekend. My job was to provide any and all information about the weekend to the players and their parents. I wasn't allowed to ask the players for autographs as it was not the proper time or place. However I did get to meet most of the future stars of the NBA, Austin Rivers, Quinn Cook, Michael Gilchrist to name a few.
The only autograph I got that day is below, a signed book by Alonzo Mourning who was there giving a speech to the players.
Alonzo Mourning Signed Book
And the second part of the update is from today. Two former Cubs were signed at two different Meijer locations, both at the same time 11-1pm. Luckily they were also only 15 minutes apart! I got to the first one, Lee Smith at about 10am and was 7th in line. I was able to get in and out with my autograph by 11:10 and back in my truck on my way to meet Bill Madlock. When I got to Madlock I asked him if he could put 4x batting champ on my mini bat. He took it one step further and also inscribed the years! Pics below!
Lee Smith
Bill Madlock
yeah thats awesome! GO CUBS!
Justin
Very cool ZO auto!! And congrats on working the cool event. And the other 2 autos are sweet as well.
Another spur of the moment update. Wasn't planning on going to this one but was bored sitting around the house. Drove an hour to some home and garden show that was free admission and also free autographs from Robbie Gould.
The next update will be at least Taj Gibson and possibly Loul Deng. Not sure if I am going to Deng or not.
Robbie Gould
16 Signatures
Very Sweet..Can't wait to see more!!
Sweet. I wish there was people signing like that around here, where I just kinda find out and just go.
Very cool. Like the Robbie as he was a PSU kicker.
Very nice to have so many players auto in the area.
Had a tease today! Got a phone call 10 minutes ago saying Carlos Boozer was signing autographs at the mall (across the street from my office) at 5pm for free. This hasn't been advertised so shouldnt be a line! Well I called to confirm and they said it was just cancelled and will be rescheduled on wednesday.
Wednesday is a problem! I am getting Luol Deng and Taj Gibson already on wednesday and Deng is at the same time. Just ordered a nice 16x20 for Deng so I gotta go to that!
Doh!
very nice Gould auto! That helmet is looking pretty sweet!
Justin
SWEET ADDS as always
I have my basketball update today. Overall I think it went well even though I did not get Taj Gibson. I just didn't have time. Anyway, I met Luol Deng today. I knew it would be a mad house so I left the office a little early and got there at 2pm for a 5pm signing. Unfortunately I forgot my chair! I was 2nd in line.
He showed up on time and I went up to get my item signed and right away he got a big smile and said he loved the particular photo I had. I made a little small talk about some of his stats while he has played for Great Britain and he thanked me and no my way I went.
I think it is safe to say there was 350+ people there. It could have been worse because Boozer and Taj were also signing same times and they had a few hundred each also I was told.
Luol Deng
16x20
man that photo is awesome! yeah this is a killer thread!

Today's update features a Hall of Fame and Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawk Stan Mikita. This was an early morning signing for free starting at 10am and going until Noon. We got there around 8:15 and were about 15 people back.
I was able to get through the line twice, both times having a Blackhawks logo puck signed. One for me, and one for the Make A Wish Foundation Raffle (there will be another thread about that)
Stan is not the most friendly person but today he was in a decent mood. Just need to remember not to ask him for any inscriptions and especially not an HOF inscription. He will only do those at paid signings and if you ask you will get asked "why do you need that?" "so you can go sell it for more?"
And with that, here are the pics.
Time for another two part update! These additions took place the last couple days. First was Friday, the 15th, which a friend of mine and I went down to Harry Caray's Restaurant where Bobby Hull was hosting a Blackhawks Playoff Party.
Now we have been in constant talks with Bobby Hull and his agent about having him come out for a signing during our Charity bar Craw for Make A Wish Foundation (www.crosstownclassiccrawl.com) Well the good news is he seems very excited to join us and even said he may join the crawl at the next bar after his signing ends!
Unfortunately my friend hasn't email me the pics of Bobby yet so I only have the pics of the items he signed for me. I will add the pics of Bobby once I receive them,
Update #2 is former Bear QB Bobby Douglass who had held the record for most rushing yard for a QB for many many years until the new waive of athletic qb's come in. Some of you may be more familiar with hm for another reason as he was arrested last Wednesday and all over the news here for some domestic dispute. Nevertheless he was a very nice and friendly guy and well worth the autograph!
Pic time!

More nice adds!!!
Talk about a busy weekend. This will be the 3rd update since Friday!! Unfortuantely it is also the last one for a little while as my signing schedule is blank until a week from thursday.
Lastnight I went to Game 3 of the Blackhawks vs. Canucks playoff series. Now the Hawks lost so that soured the night some but I still had a great time and was able to score a few autographs from some Blackhawks Alumni. The Blackhawks have 1-2 former players signing at all home games.
Last night's guest were Cliff Koroll and Grant Mulvey

Just an awesome collection, thanks for sharing....
pretty awesome! Can't wait until the next updates!
Justin
It has been awhile since my last update. With Easter Weekend and the NBA/NHL playoffs and that darn lockout the signings have not been as often.
Yesterday, the wifey and I went to meet Matt Forte at a local PNC Bank. I think I mentioned before how well PNC Bank runs their events. They have free hot dogs and chips and pop. Live bands, free massages, video games and just about anything you want to spend an afternoon in a parking lot! haha
Yesterday's event was for a Matt Forte signing. I managed to get two items signed, my board and a mini helmet. He is doing another signing at another PNC Bank next weekend and I may go to that as well.
Here are the pics, the first one is my wife with Matt. As much as she thinks this hobby is crazy she loves taking pictures with the athletes lol.

Very cool. I fianlly have some nice signing upcomming here in MA.
One of them is Jose Conseco
Was wondering if Forte ever went to signings, question answered! Very nice Bears Board and mini! So........who's next?
Justin
Nice stuff. That's pretty crazy about PNC Bank's events! I never heard anything like that....
Time for another update!
This is another two part update. This will contain yesterday Friday May 6th, as well as Today May 7th.
Yesterday I was able to meet Marcos Mateo, relief pitcher for the Chicago Cubs. It was held at a baseball card shop about 45 minutes from my house. It is called The Baseball Card King. Let me tell you this is a great shop! Great selection, collection and the people are nothing but nice. Quite a few of my updates come fro their signings.
Anyway, Marcos pitched yesterday, I was listening to the game on my way to the signing so I knew right away he was going to be late. No biggie, didn't really have anything else to do and they had the Bulls game on the big screen at the shop.
He showed up a little more than an hour late. He was a very nice guy but also VERY nervous. He doesn't speak english and this was his first ever signing. Anyone who asked for inscriptions had to have them translated to him but he would gladly give you what you wanted.
I got two items signed, I am starting a Cubs project, nothing big just a poster than I will frame. I figure its something I can put any Cubs player on. The second item was a Cubs Jersey signed by approx 25 players. This will be another raffle prize for the Make A Wish Foundation Bar Crawl raffle.
Enough rambling, here are the pics!
Update Part II
This portion of the update is from today. It was another Matt Forte PNC Bank signing event.
I went to this one with my Dad, which is cool for two reasons. He is the one who got me into this. He also hasn't been to one in probably 20 years. So when he asked to go with me I was happy. It was also good because he wanted to go, he didn't really care for the autograph lol. So I got 2 for 1!
I won't go into detail about the event because it was the exact same as last week's update. Free food, music, games, money!
I grabbed two photos for this signing. A nice 10x20 panoramic photo of Forte giving a mean stiff arm during this year's playoff's versus Seattle. The second photo will come into play with a near future update. Greg Olsen is the main guy in the photo but Forte is the other player. Rumors have it Olsen is doing a PNC Bank signing next week. If that is the case I will add him to that photo as well!
11x14
10x20
wicked stiff arm!!! Congrats on the autos!
Justin
A very, very impressive collection.
Was there any one thing or event that
compelled you toward memorabilia and
away from cards?
Once again, a wicked collection and
thank you for sharing it here.
Collect Hard!,
RGBII
That Forte stiff arm is sweet! That would look great on anyones wall!!! If I were him, I would have kept it for myself! LOL
Can you let me know where you got that picture? I would like to see if I could get my dad one.
Great pic. Love that you get so many guys.
Today is another 2 part update. Unlike the two part updates in the past both of these were obtained today.
First was Greg Olsen, another PNC Bank signing. I didn't get to this one too early because it is kind of cold and wet today and I didn't want to stand in line to long. I got there about an hour early and was about 50-75 people back. The line moved quick and 15-20 minutes after the start I was on my way out of there.
The second portion of the update was another spur of the moment thing. I knew it was going on but apparently had the wrong location. I thought it was about an hour south of me but it was really 10 minutes east of me! Well if that is the case then I won't miss it! It was for Cain Velasquez, the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion. This one was for 4 hours and we got there during the 3rd hour. We walked in, got the auto, took a pic, a minute of small talk and we were out of the store all within 2-3 minutes max!
Greg Olsen
Olsen & Forte Dual Signed 11x14
Me and Cain Velasquez
Cain Velasquez Promo Photo Signed
The Velasquez auto is just pure sickness!! Congrat on both successes!
Justin
Sweet adds.
HUGE. Update tomorrow. Hint, he just charged $200+ per auto at a mounted memories show and tomorrow is FREE.
really cool topic. some good stuff. are all the signings local for you or do you have to travel a bit?
Here is the first update I have done that I am not pleased with. Now don't get me wrong, I still received a free autograph from a Top 50 NBA all time player and hall of famer but let me tell you the back story.
Tuesday Night I get a call that Scottie Pippen is going to be signing free autographs at a local T-Mobile store in downtown Chicago. I immediately tell him I can not go due to not wanting to take another day off work (I took 2 days the previous week). Now as the night went on (and the beers went down) I started to think about it some more. Scottie Pippen just charged $200+ at the Mounted Memories show and that was only for a photo, the price only went up from there!
So I took the day off work and went downtown at 10am for a 5pm signing. I am 9th in line. 4pm comes around and the store manager walks out and tell us that no outside memorabilia will be signed, even though 3 of us called and asked that specific question before we went. The 400+ people in line started to get all sorts of upset.
Scottie shows up on time, 5pm in his 200K+ car and greats the fans with a smile and a wave. We are now thinking he is in a good mood and will sign our stuff. Just as we walk in the store (groups of 10 let in) they tell us that 1 outside item can be signed. We go nuts, as I bought a jersey for him to sign. As we finally walk up to Scottie he points out directly at my friend and I and says "Hey they have stuff, I'm not gonna sign none of that" and with that the manager and agent made everyone put their stuff away and we ended up with the photo below.
So in summary, I used 8 hours of PTO, spend money on a Scottie Pippen jersey and stood in line for 7 hours and ended up with something I am going to sell to a friend for $40
Bummer that you didn't have a better experience but at least you still got a nice auto!
Justin
Tonight's update is far from a normal update. Keep in mind this is a Wednesday, not a Saturday lol. I managed to score 3 auto's today!
All 3 were at the same location. The first one was Billy Williams, HOF Cubs. It was from 12-1 and was conveniently across the street from my office at the Lord & Taylor store. I went with 2 co-workers, one who bought a mini helmet off me, and one who was just getting stuff for me.
For Williams it was nice and quick because he was doing 4 different locations today so the lines were not going to be bad. Including the time to get to and from and in and out of the mall it took 45 minutes. I had a mini bat, a wood cubs board, and an 8x10 photo they provided.
The second part of the update is where is gets a little out of the norm. From 7-8pm Greg Olsen was at the same Lord & Taylor location.
I get there at 6:30, again not much of a line due to him signing at 4 locations as well (Autism speaks events). I brought a 11x14 that isn't so great and i always pass on getting signed but kinda my "extra" piece if needed. Anyway, just as it starts two things change.
First they move the location from near the entrance to right in the middle of the girls prom dresses location. I think that's an odd spot for a football player signing no? Then I notice these pink books on the table. ????? what are the books for.
7pm comes around and walk in Greg Olsen and Bill Racic. I guess him and Giuliana wrote a book and he was there to sign it and give it away as well. Hmmmm ok. The line for Olsen was about 20 people and there were 2 people for Racic.
I was not allowed to have my 11x14 signed, they said no personal items but that was fine, they had a provided photofile photo, so that works. I wasn't going to get Rancic but I thought my wife might like it so I asked him to make one out to her as well (she laughed when i showed her)
Anywho, I think that is what you call an interesting wednesday. And this was all the while working 10 hours!
I should have another update this afternoon/evening. About to leave to meet a Bears player.
Today's update is another Chicago Bears player. Special Teams Ace and backup Middle Linebacker, Rod Wilson.
This signing was sponsored by the website I use for finding out about the signings (www.csac.biz) Since I have a HOF level member I was able to receive 2 free passes to this signing.
He was super friendly and willing to talk about anything you wanted. he touched base on staying in shape during the lockout and having all the extra time.
When I walked up there a car alarm started to go off outside, you could see him listening to see if it was his car. I told him if it was his car I would get a chance to see how quick he can really run!
He signed by Bears Board which is just about done now with 30 signatures and my Bears full size helmet which has 18 signatures on it now.
The next update I have planned will be a week from today and will be a couple more of the 1985 Bears!!
this thread just keeps getting better and better! Congrats!
Justin
I hope to have an update tomorrow with Bears 1st rd draft pick Gabe Carimi!!
Nice stuff lately, keep it up. Nice job with Pippen, I would also feel the same way as you about the situation.
Today is a fun update!
I met Chicago Bears 1st rd Draft Pick Gabe Carimi. He was signing autographs for 1 hour at a Walmart about 5 minutes from my house. I got there about an hour and a half early, was 4th in line.
Gabe showed up on time and started to sign. The first person in line went up there was 2 bears mini helmets. He asked Gabe if he could do an inscription of his nickname, "The Hammer". Gabe gave a quick laugh and asked "you want the full real nickname?" then he inscribed "The Jew Hammer". I also witnessed his inscribe "The Bear Jew" which is a play from the movie Inglorious Bastards.
Right before my spot in line came up a buddy of mine shouted to him "So how about Ohio State, does Wisconsin pay more?" Gabe immediately started to laugh and said "how the heck didn't you know about that!? Everyone knew if you knew anything about the BigTen" He also stated that Wisconsin is so strict they would not allow him to buy his own helmet for him to keep after he left the school, said it was against the rules.
Here are the pics. The first one is his reaction to the OSU/Wisconsin question. He has moved up towards the top of my current bears players list, even if he hasn't signed yet!
Very cool. I wish more football players would sign around here during thier off time.
Update time!
Now this is going to be a big update. Big as in lots of content. Today was what I would call an enjoyable Saturday. I scored two players from the 1985 Bears, and my wife went and got me a 1969 Cubs player!
There really isn't any fun or weird back story to this signing so I am going to just jump into the pics, since there are quite a few!
Me & Jim Morrissey '85 Bears
Brian Baschnagal '85 Bears
Rich Nye '69 Cubs

The Items Continued...
Very cool Cubs success!
Justin
nice updates.
10 days since my last update. Wow, didn't think it was that long.
This will be the first of what I hope will be three updates this week.
Today's update is Caleb Haine from the Chicago Bears. He was a very nice guy and signed by board and full size helmet. It was at a tiny women's dress store so that was interesting, and I got to meet the mayor of the town it was in. Not sure why, but what the heck why not?
Here are the pics:
34 Signatures
22 Signatures
great add. Going to hopefully get some pats signatures tomorrow.
very nice add! Looks like you might need another Bear's Board!
Justin
Here is part 2 of what I hope to be 3 updates this week.
Today I was able to meet and get 2 autographs from Cubs Rookie Sensation and potential Rookie Of the Year Darwin Barney.
He was very nice and put on a cooking demonstration for about 20 minutes before he signed autographs. One thing that stood out right away was that he was aware of what he was doing. He would ask you if you wanted silver in a certain section, or blue sharpie in another. He knew what would look good and where to sign.
Here are some pics. Anyone know how to embed a video??
And here is what really made my day. Had this on the counter waiting for me when I got home. My latest purchase.
Awesome stuff. It's great to see a player that's very accommodating in how you would like it signed.
Today is the 3rd and final update for this week.
Today was Super Bowl XX Champ and member of the "Shufflin Crew" LB #53 Dan Rains.
Not much of a story to tell, very nice guy. Signing started 5 minutes early at 11:55 and I was on my way back home by 12:15.
Here are the pics.
very cool.
I have been going too far between updates and I am sorry for that, but please don't blame me, yell at the players! There just have not been many signings as of late with hockey, basketball and football not going.
With that said today I was able to meet a 7x champion and without argument the best at his sport ever.
Not your typical sport though, NHRA Drag Racing. Bass Pro Shops was nice enough to host Tony Schumacher. As has been common as of late he was a very nice guy who actually seemed to enjoy being there.
I managed to get 3 items signed, a die cast car, the limited edition box for the car, and the promo photo that I plan on donating. Overall a good day!
nice stuff brother..
Im becoming very envious of my Da Bears collection in your possession!
I have another update today!
I was able to meet former Cub and fan favorite Larry Biitner. He showed up to the card shop about an hour early and sat around and chatted for a few before dopping in back. Signing started on time at 12:00 and I was back in my truck on the way home by 12:07!
As you can see I am starting a Cubs board like my Bears board.
What a great collection friend.
Crazy collection! I'll have keep stopping by here more often. Excellent!
Great adds as always.
Tonight's update will be short and to the point. I want to go play some NCAA football on the ps3.
For $15 I got to meet Zack Bowman, Khalil Bell, and DJ Moore from the Bears. It was all for charity for a young girl who is terminally ill. The players were very nice and talkative.
Holy cow! When's it going to be time for a new one?
Nice adds. Didn't know NCAA was out yet may have to pick it up. Been way to long since i have gotten that game.
This update is actually from yesterday but I did not have time to post it. I would consider this a big update!
My wife and I took the day off work and decided we would go get this autograph (1 each) and then just spend the rest of the day together.
The signing was for Richard Dent who was just recently elected into the NFL HOF. Richard has signed for free in the past but now that he is in the Hall he has started to charge with the minimum price being $80! Yesterday was a free signing through a Meijer store.
It started at 1:30 with a 30 minute cooking demo on how to make a sub sandwich. My wife and I got in line around 8:30am for the 1:30 start. We were about 15 people back in line. The first person said they got there at 6am!
I bought a double matted 8x10 for my wife to get signed and then the full size team helmet for me.
I will let the pics speak for themselves, the direct link you see if to some videos I took as well. I can't embed them on this forum for some reason.
http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk100/sillysyclone/Memorabilia_and_Sports_Cards/?action=view¤t=RichardDentCooking-1.mp4
Nice Helmet!
Another update from today!!
A buddy of mine who go to all these signings with asked me if I could go to one for him due to him having a wedding to attend today. Andre Dawson was signing at the Field Of Dreams store in the Mall.
He was charging so I wasn't planning on getting anything. My friend wanted a bat. Well as it got closer for me to go I wanted one for myself more and more. I decided I would get my Cubs board signed.
I got to the Mall at 5:10 for a 6:pm signing. When I went in to buy my tickets Andre was already sitting there signing items for the store. I bought my 2 tickets and grabbed a seat outside. About 15 minutes later a store employee walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to get my items signed now. Of course! So long story short, I made it home by 6:02 from a signing that was supposed to start at 6! haha
I have met Dawson many many times over the years going back to the 80's and his signature has never changed and is one of the best looking out there IMHO.
very nice CUBS success! Congrats and keep em coming!
Justin
Nice job on Dent and Dawson! I have one of Dawson, has a cool sig.
yet another nice signature. Congrats.
Today's update is Cubs rookie speedster Tony Campana.
When he walked in he fit so well in the crowd a few people said he thought he was someone's kid. Talk about a small guy! He was very happy to be there and most polite! Seems like a lot of these younger Cubs players lately have been this way (except Marmol).
I should have a nice large update in the next few weeks with the National Convention being 15 minutes from my house!
Here are today's pics.
Great add as always!
Well I have an unplanned update today!
As you can see from the thread thus far I like to collect sports. But today was a little different. I got a call last night around 10pm asking if I wanted to go meet Mike Wolfe from the History Channel's American Pickers. I love that show!
I think all sport cards/memorabilia collectors have a little picker in them don't you think? It is all about the hunt!
He was meeting fans at a goodwill store about 15 minutes from my house. It started at 10 and we got there around 9:30 and were maybe 75 people back in line. He signed and posed pics and the line still went quick as I was out of there within a half hour.
Here are the pics. (sorry for the finger on the one, first time ive ever done that!)
(not sure why he signed over franks pic but whatever lol)
I think this is my 3rd or 4th update with this same former Blackhawk player. But really, how many HOF autos is too many?
Denis Savard free signing. I am starting a Blackhawks Hall of Fame Board.
Mike Wolfe! Nice job there. The Savard was a nice sign as well.
Congrats, keep them coming!
Today's update is not the biggest name player but two things to keep in mind. First of all he is a former Chicago Bear, so that makes him automatically cool in my book. Second to keep in mind is that starting this week the National Convention is in town so there will be some big updates this week!
Within this update will be a little preview of what will come later, as well as what I obtained today.
I have also uploaded about 25 or so new signed items to my bucket so feel free to browse, that's why its there.
Mitch Krenk, member of 1985 Bears (spent entire season on IR)
And now the preview for later in this week. These are the tickets that I pre-ordered. I still have to buy 10 or so other athletes when I get there.
These are two painting I had done that I will be getting signed. They were only $25 each! I gave him a design and he painted them for me.
Here is the Dick Butkus update I had previously mentioned. I would say there was between 300-400 people there. Luckily I was #13.
It was 90+ degrees and sunny and I am now sunburned but the day was a double success. First i was able to receive two free Dick Butkus autographs but I also found out that at the same store tomorrow, Chris Chelios will be signing. So you can hopefully expect an update from that!
Here are today's pics.
39 Signatures!
Very nice sign! Can't wait to see the Chelios update tomorrow!
WOWSERS! when you update you really update! Congrats on all the autos!
Justin
Very cool!! And Mike the picker was cool! I called them to sell a old Pepsi cooler to them, but got no answer. But very cool. And also the items with tons of autos on them is cool. When there are more autos on it them you can make out thats cool!! Keep up the work.
Today is my Chelios update. The only down side from today was I was busy talking to someone and didn't get a chance to take a pic of him signing my item, or ask for inscription. I planned on asking for 3x Norris but like I said, got caught in the moment and missed the chance. The guy behind me had a jersey that got both 3x norris and 11x all star inscribed on it.
I thought about trying to go back through the line. I started at #20 out of 200 but then it started to rain(line was outside) 2 min after I got my item signed so I just left.
Very cool. Wish they had some free signings around me. I have paid for all of mine for the most part.
Mike Wolfe is cool love that show was thinking of sending a TTM tothem.
Nice update! Now you have to go eat at Cheli's Chili Bar in Detroit...mmm good stuff!
Well the National show is in town!!! Stared today and goes until Sunday. I plan on going Fri-Sun.
My buddy went today and scored huge for me!!! He got me two of each of Don Kessinger and Bill Madlock but he also wheeled and dealed me into about 12 free autos. I'll post pics of the tickets later. Multiple Pilote's and all the Cubs!
I dont want to update everyday this week so I just plan on doing it Saturday and or Sunday.
Sorry I'm tardy to the party with this thread, but after reading through all 7 pages, it's become my favorite and plan on keeping an eye on it.
As an autograph hound myself, I had actuallyhave not been to a signing since I went to a Rex Ryan book signing. This thread has gotten me motivated to get back out there and hound.
I had actually had the idea of using those boards for multiple signatures, but wasn't sure how they would look. Thanks to you, I see they look fantastic and with your permission, I'd like to use that idea.
I have a question, at almost every free signing I have been to, it's usually 1 auto per. How do you manage to get 2?
Great thread, keep up the great job.
Mike
Here is part 1 of my National Convention Update. This will be short and just of the athletes. I will go into detail and story tell when I upload the pics of the items tomorrow.
Only person missing from the pics is Mike Tyson, who was super cool but his handlers were not and no photographs allowed of Mike at all. BOOO
wow the reuschels together..
they are/were from camp point il about 15 minutes from quincy!
Wow, looks like you racked up at the National. Can't wait to see the items and read the stories. I love in that one pic, theres a blonde looking at an apple as if she's wondering what she just ate.
Thanks for the ok. to use the boards. I would hate to use an idea that somone has already used without permission, and yup, I will post pics. I'm looking on ebay for them.
Mike
Nice haul from the National!
Here are the pictures of the items I had signed. I did not buy anything other than some supplies at the convention. To be honest I just didn't feel safe spending my money. There was the guy who was arrested for the fake jerseys that was talked about in the other thread on this board. Then my buddy spent $200 on a very clean single signed Harry Carey baseball. Once he bought it he went straight to the PSA booth to have it authenticated. Needless to say, it did not pass.
He was able to get his money back minus the PSA fee. Then another friend bought what was labeled as a OMLB. Upon opening the box it was an OMLB but a PNC Park grand opening one. It was not advertised as that. Again, he was able to receive his money back.
I attend anywhere from 3-4 sports memorabilia conventions at this same convention center each year. This was the first one I had gone to put on my TriStar. After dealing with their customer service via phone I was not expecting much. They did put on a better show than I expected but the autograph pavilion was a hot mess. There were 3-4 levels of VIP passes but each level had multiple hundred passes so the lines never moved. I had ticket #2 for Mike Tyson as I has posted and it took me 2 hours plus to get my signature.
Out of all the people I met Mike Tyson by far was the most memorable and fun. He gave a buddy of mine a big hug and a kiss on the cheek (we arent sure why). He then asked me what I knew about artichoke hearts and grape leaves. I thanked him for coming out and he stood up and thanked me in return. I told him he needs to come out more often and he said he is trying to. So hopefully we will see more of him around.

Congratulations on all the awesome sigs....
ask Leon next time you see him if he saw the ball go between his legs in the 84 playoffs!
Man Ill bet Zim was a treat!
and I wonder if Tyson still feels Busters Blow when he signs pics of that..
Awesome stuff, looked like a pretty good weekend.
Very nice man. Congrats.
So I should have 3 updates this weekend so I will post them all Sunday. I got a former cub and multiple world series champ tonight. Going tomorrow with a friend to get extra for a fundraiser tomorrow and then a '85 Bear Sunday. Tomorrow is a white sox guy so I'll try to wear as much Cubs gear as possible. Only going to get an item to donate.
Here is my update from this weekend. It was a signing filled weekend and I did pass up one going to one, a Fergie Jenkins signing because I had plans to bring my family to my brothers today.
Friday started with Jay Johnstone who played for the CUbs from 82-84. He was there about 45 minutes early and didn't want to start signing until 7pm but had no problem with telling old clubhouse stories. It was a riot to sit back and listen to.
Saturday was 2 signings but neither were for me. They were both White Sox related and I hate the White Sox but a friend asked me to go so I could get extra items for a fundraiser he is doing. It was Ozzie Guillen and then about 10 miles away Bill Melton. Ozzie seemed like a decent guy and took photos with anyone who asked. Bill Melton was a jerk and had a smart comment for everything everyone said. By the time we were done I needed a shower. To much white sox for one day.
Sunday, today was Gary Fencik from the '85 Bears. When I walked in I saw a sign with today's date and Fergie Jenkins. I immediately got confused as I just drive an hour and all I had with me was Bears stuff. Soon as I found the line I found out that Fergie was going to be there at 6:30, the Fenick was at 10am. That made me feel so much better!
I think that is enough typing so here are the pics:
Jay Johnstone
Ozzie Guillen
Bill Melton
Gary Fencik
Very nice! starting a new Bears piece?
Btw, where do you pick up the wood signs? I have been looking here in NYC and only found some for Syracuse at Marshalls.
Mike
I guess you could call it a new project. I'm using it for people I already have on the full size and on the board.
Out here you can get them all over for $15-20. You might have lunch at fansedge though. I got my Cubs one from them.
Today's update is Chicago Cub Closer Carlos Marmol. This signing was at the same place as Fencik so about 45min to and hour from my house. I have met Marmol once before last year and there were about 30 people there so I didn't expect much.
My friend and I arrived at 6pm for the scheduled 6pm start time. Soon as we pulled in we knew we didn't plan well. The parking lot was PACKED. We walked in and there was between 200-250 people in line. We went to the end and within 2 minutes someone walked up to us and informed us that he would be signing for 1 hour and it was not likely to get through to us.
My friend then walked up to the front of the line to take a look. LUCKY US! Sitting next to Carlos was his childhood friend Douglas, who happened to recognize my friend. See when Marmol came to the US he brought a lot of his friends with him. They now work for him as his "handlers". One of his handles married my buddies cousin. So Douglas who was there recognized him from family gatherings(all the friends). Told us to stick around and he would sign for us. GREAT!
Now here is where it gets funny (if I didn't lose you already!!). The handler, Douglas walks up to us and asked us if we knew where a Menards or Home Depot was. He said it had to be north of I55 (not sure why). We googled it and told him it was in the next town over. I guess Carlos wanted to buy a chainsaw to work on his ranch where he keeps his cattle. I kindly informed his handler that I thought that would be in violation of his contract but that I would be glad to help! haha
Well that is enough of the stories, good times in only an hour right!? Here are the pics!
Great story and great success.
Mike
Ok so I put BIG in the update not really because of who will be within this update as much as how many people. All of these items were obtained today and for free.
Goodwill was doing a donation drive at the Allstate Arena. Posted rules were bring a donation and you get a wrist band for either Dan Hampton, Taj Gibson, Ron Kittle, Jimmy Butler, Lee Smith, or Richard Dent.
They said they were on contract for 200 autographs each. I think Goodwill was expecting a huge turnout. Unfortunately(for them, not me) there was maybe 125 TOTAL.
They soon realized that certain lines had no people and some had all the people. None one went through the Kittle line, I did not see a single person. With that being said they opened it up and let you do as you please as long as you made the donation. I ended up getting multiple of everyone except Dent. On my way out, they even gave me a free copy of the new Ron Santo book A Perfect 10.
One thing I forgot to mention. I initially only brought enough stuff for 1 Taj Signature and 1 Hampton. Once I saw how it was I ran home, grabbed a ton of stuff and more to donate. I actually ran out of stuff to sign again, I shoulda brought more!!
Here are the pics, there will be a ton of them so it may take a post or two to get them all.
16 Signatures now
I didn't get a chance to take a pic of the Poster that Jimmy Butler signed, I will upload that another time.
Here is something I received in the mail today. I bought this from the Favre Foundation site, so it is not IP but I wanted to share.
great adds man congrats.
Cool stuff
Love the Favre
Cool update. What's the link to Farve's foundation? I'd like to see if I can add any Farve signed Jets to my Jets PC.
Mike
Today's update was someone I had already but never had the chance to meet. Last time he was in town my wife went for me. This time I thought I would go. It was $10 per auto but with my membership it was buy get one free.
Rich Nye pitcher from the '69 Cubs.
I really only needed him on the mini helmet but since I was getting one for free I grabbed the poster as well. It is something I get signed when I don't have anything else.
I should be coming with updates more often (I hope) now that hockey and football are starting.
12 Signatures (older players only 80's and later)
Nice update. I am working on a poster of the old Yankee Stadium myself. Pain in the rear to carry with to the signings, but it is coming along nicely.
Mike
Today's update is someone who has been in this thread just about as much as anyone lol. Dan Hampton.
I told my wife I was going to go to this and she responded with "Don't you have like 10 of him already" which I had to respond with "yes, but believe it or not I need more"
I decided today would be a good day to bring my kids to their first signing. I have 3yr old twin girls, Reagan and Riley.
This thread should be getting some real life this month as I have a ton of signing coming up. Nascar is in town for the Joliet race so there will be a few of the drivers I will meet as well as I intended to meet Patrick Sharp and Dave Bolland from the '10 Blackhawks. Wish me luck on those as the lines will be NUTS!
Here are the pics. After seeing how the Hampton turned out on the full size helmet I have decided to retire it, no more signatures. I hoped I would be able to put more on there but some people signed bigger than I wanted. Oh well, I will just start another. Until then the vinyl banner will become my new project.
Today is hopefully the start of a nice week of updates here. Today was Dave Bolland who is a current Blackhawks player as well as one on their 2010 Cup team.
It was a Meijer cooking demonstration again and once again when the player showed up they had no idea they had to cook. If you click the link in my sig you can see a video where you can tell he is not comfortable lol. If you do, please not that is not me asking of any of the dumb questions or at all, I was quiet lol.
He was nice enough to sign 3 things for me, two I provided and then the photo they provided which was huge! I assumed it was a 11x14 but it is much larger. Haven't measured yet. Talk about a nice freebie right!?

nice adds.
Nice recent stuff. That story about the demonstration is pretty funny.
Here is today's Joey Logano update. Very nice kid and very chatty. Seemed to be having fun up there. He loved my 11x14 and asked me where I got it. The pic I took of him signing that one isn't any good because I was busy talking.
I hope for another update tomorrow. Either Ditka, or more Nascar.
8x10
11x14
Today's update will be shorty but with a lot of pictures. I passed meeting Mike Ditka for the 4th time to get a few Nascar guys. Ditka signs each Thursday from 5-6 so I can get him whenever.
Tomorrow Patrick Sharp was on my schedule but after his surgery he has been replaced with Corey Crawford, and that is fine with me.
Here are today's pics. Paul Menard, Matt Crafton and Chris Carrier (crew chief)
Great additions!
Mike
Today marks the 4th straight day with an update I believe. It will be the last for a couple days unless something new pops up, which is possible.
Patrick Sharp was scheduled to appear initially however after his surgery earlier in the week he was replaced with Corey Crawford. Unfortunately I was not able to take pics of him signing my items as I was helping hold the poster open but I did snap 2 pics of him signing my buddies. I thought I was only going to get one thing signed but i tried my luck and laid the puck on the table and he grabbed it and signed it as I hoped.
Great sucess!
Mike
Tonight's update is a fun one i suppose. I came up with the bright idea to bring my twin 3 yr old daughters with me and the Nanny who is a big Blackhawks fan to meet the broadcasting team Eddie Olczyk and Pat Foley. The signing went from 7-9 and my kids bedtime has always been 8pm firm.
We arrived there at about 7pm. Walked in, took the kids coats off and noticed a line forming. We went to the back of the line which moved quick (until my kids got up there) and got our autos and were on our way. Back outside in the mini van by 7:10.
As usual Eddie O and Pat were more than wonderful and seemed to enjoy being there and mingling and making jokes.
Sorry for picture quality, it was very dark there and my phone couldn't focus right in the lighting.
oh yeah and PS
They were still in bed by 8:05!
Great sucesses and great job of getting the kids into bed at a reasonable time
Mike
What do you know anther Dan Hampton update. Here is the thing, for me, 1985 Bears autos will never get old. I don't care if I have 20+ of Dan Hampton. I have already found 5 more things I can and will eventually have him sign!
Today was cool though, I asked him what he would think if he was playing and saw a Qb takign a 7 step drop (ala Mike Martz offense). He laughed and said "7 steps is too many, I would think to turn the corner and hit him in the back of his head, you need to get rid of the ball quick" Man, it never gets old talking to Dan. You can chat with him as long as you want he will never be rude and it will always be you being the one who has to end the conversation.
I also got a SBXX program signed for my buddy but since it is not mine I am not posting pics.
Tonight's update will be very quick. I am going to watch "Catching Hell" the espn 30 in 30 movie.
I met Kahlil Bell tonight for the second time. Just like the first he arrived and started early. It was $15 per auto but with my membership I got 2 free. I only had 1 item to get signed so I grabbed an 8x10 that I normally use for older bears to get signed. Why not, I have at least a dozen unsigned.
Oh yeah, they had all you can eat free pizza there too but I was an hour from home so I left right away and didn't eat. Smelled good though lol
Great succeses.
Question, how are you bringing your posters to the signings? I am working on a B&W pic of the old Yankee Stadium and I have it rolled up in a tube and its a hassle to unroll it when it comes time for the players to sign.
I have to point out that I am envious that the Bears players are out and about signing for the fans and I never see Jets players out there. That's very cool.
Mike
No, I wanted to go, but I had to work late and I worked last Sat when Rich Gossage and a few other former Yankees were doing a signing. With hockey season sttarting, I'm going to try and hit the Devils as much as I can before it gets to cold to wait outside the arena.
Can't wait to see the updates.
Mike
Here is the update I was waiting for. Today I met Starlin Castro again. This is the second time. The first time I got a baseball with "6 rbi 1st mlb game" inscription. This time I wanted to do something that I don't think anyone has.
I bought a complete set of Beckett Printing Plates from when he was on their back cover. They were asking more than I wanted to spend so I shot them a real low ball offer and oddly enough they accepted. I only had the funds tonight to get 1 of them signed ($39 signing) but I do plan on completing the set over time all signed.
[
Meijer was doing another cooking demonstration today. This time it was with Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson. Surprisingly there was only about 50 people there to get autographs. I think the lockout is the reason for the smaller crowd.
You watched him cook or at least try to cook butternut squash soup and then he signed autographs. The pic I took of him signing the stuff came out very blurry doh! I got some good videos though. He had no clue out the use a potato peeler, watch the video in my bucket and you will laugh!

Met another former Cubs player today. The shop I tend to go to for these autograph sessions opened up a second shop. Today was my first time there. Its a very nice large shop, however you will see in the pics they need to move the autograph table because it is too bright in the background for pics.
I might have an update tomorrow. I won a context for Charles Tillman's personal tickets to the bears game. I go down there at 10am to pick them up for the 12pm game. Keith Van Horne and James Big Cat Williams are supposed to be signing at the stadium. Then on Monday Chris Harris is doing one of those Meijer cooking demo's that I plan on going to.
Here are the Vail pics.
That Cubs piece is coming out very nice
Mike
I won free tickets to today's Bears vs Panthers game.
Pics can be seen here:
http://www.tradingcardcentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=304419&hl=
When the Bears play home games they always have 2 bears alumni on site signing autographs. Today's was Keith Van Horne and Jame "Big Cat" Williams.
While we were waiting in line we noticed someone who looked familiar doing an interview for a local station. It was '85 Bear Jay Hilgenberg. I was able to have him sign my Bears Vinyl but was not able to take a pic due to all the commotion.
After that we got the Van Horne and Williams autos and headed to our seats. Since I won these tickets I was not sure where they would be at. They ended up being 1st row in the end zone next to where the Panthers tunnel is.
Before the game started Jim Morrissey also from the '85 Bears walked past us so we asked him to sign for us. As most '85 Bears he was more than willing to sign.
Shortly there after yet ANOTHER '85 bear Brian Baschenagel was standing there. I called him over and he signed by buddies SBXX program as well as my Vinyl. He was dressed in a suit and had a briefcase which I thought was odd. I asked him why and he said he was working for the NFL doing Uniform inspections and the league made him dress up. He made it clear he didn't want to be in the suit!
I think that is enough of a story. I had so much fun I could go on and on but I will just post the pics. Make sure to check the other thread for some cool ones too.
Thats awesome. Congrats
Consecutive day #5 of autograph success.
2010 2nd Team All Pro Bears Safety Chris Harris.
It was another cooking demonstration. This time it was mango salsa. Not much of a story with this one. I was in the middle of the group and was able to get 2 items signed.

Great job man congrats.
very nice additions congratulations
Today I will be posting two updates. One from yesterday and one from last Tuesday. I attempted to post this on Tuesday but the site seemed to be down for a little while.
First update is Blackhawks enforcer, John Scott. The second update is 1985 Chicago Bear and Super Bowl XX Champ Thomas Sanders!
Best thing about the John Scott signing is a buddy and I won free tickets to the Blackhawks game next saturday. Check out the section on the tickets, they are Bud Light suite tickets!

Update Part II
Second part of the update is 1985 Chicago Bear Thomas Sanders. Is it just me or does he look like a smaller version of Frank Thomas?
Great adds man
too bad you didnt get invited to the 85 bears at the white house. you couldve knocked them all out in one day
wouldnt that have been sweet!
Today's update is the only one I have planned for this week. It is former Oregon All-American and current Chicago Bears DE Nick Reed.
He was a super nice guy and we chatted a bit about all the crazy uniforms he would wear in college. He said he appreciates the "tradition" of the Bears simple uniforms.

very nice meet and cool to see he took time out to talk to you., Chicago has a lot of signings huh
This update is actually from last night but I got home at 1am and wasn't about to upload and sort pics. Unfortunately I forgot my good camera in the car so I was only able to take cell phone pics.
I had previously mentioned my buddy winning tickets to a Blackhawks game and they were Bud Light Legends Lounge Tickets. Man I had no idea what that really consisted of until we got there.
It was unlimited all you can eat and all you can drink!
As always the Blackhawks have a former player on hand to sign before the game and between the 1st and 2nd intermissions. I was able to get 2 items signed. The alumni last night was Phil Russell.

Phil Russell and signed items...
nice I may as well move to Chicago since I like 3 teams from there lol. I actually do want to go out there for a week on vacation I always wanted to a) Live there and visit the history museum there and check out the German U-Boat on exhibit
Well you don't want to move here lol. State and city are so poor we are the most taxed people in the country by far!!! Look up cook county Illinois taxes, it's nuts
Now the museums I love. The U-Boat is awesome and such a piece of history. Make sure to shoot me a pm if you ever come through.
Question::: anyone follow this thread and live in minnesota? Have some Vikings IP questions
I I have a "friend" who wants me to move to Glen Ellyn to be near her. I visted there 2 years ago and it seemed nice enough and I'd still get to see my teams when they come in to Chicago. Just worried about those famous Illinois winters I hear about.
Mike
Yeah, I just drooled on my keybord. I'm a carnavore of the highest esteem.
Mike
nice. if you like that U-boat you may like knowing I met a soldier who was on the American Ship that became like the chaperon when they were towing that U-Boat to American waters during WWII
Tonight's update is Bears Offensive lineman Lance Louis. He was very nice and VERY quiet. It wasn't a rude quiet though I think he was just shy. I did get a laugh out of him when I asked him to take a pic with me, unless he was afraid I would make him look small lol
I thought I was done with the wood board but he has a small sig so I knew it would fit.
Question though: Is there a thread of the year award on this board??? I don't want to toot my own horn but these last few months i have been on a roll.
Great sucess!
Yes, there is a Thread of the Year. The nominations usually start in early to mid Dec, if I'm not mistaken.
Mike
Tonight's update is another Dave Bolland update. This was another Bud Light Hockey night and was at a bar bout 5 miles from my house.
I also got a Donnell Woolford auto on my bears vinyl this weekend but didn't post it because my friend got it for me while i was out of town.
Here are the Bolland pics.
Very nice. I see your starting a new 'Hawks board as well?
Mike
Tonight's update is Bears backup QB Caleb Hanie. To be honest I didn't expect a big line so I went later than usual and brought my nanny and my 2 kids. Well the line was about 100 deep but it moved quick. Took about 30 minutes and Caleb was very friendly with my girls.
I didn't have my Bears vinyl with me because a friend of mine is going to meet Otis Wilson tomorrow so I gave that and my 85 bears poster to get signed for me.
great adds.
Nice add to the Bears PC.
Mike
Went and got a couple bears players today. First was Johnny Knox and on the way home we stopped and go Earl Bennett.
I had a friend on a mission for me as well this weekend. He got me Otis Wilson on the Bears vinyl and Steve McMichael on my '85 Bears poster.
I got him the football you will see below which will be given as a prize to a student in his high school history class (he is a teacher). The Vanderbilt 8x10 I gave to my friend because she did not have a Bennett photo to get signed. I told her to make sure to ask for the inscription.
I had my wife ask Johnny Knox for the inscription on the 11x14. i always assume it is safer to have a female to ask instead of a guy. Its not to surprising that I am more successful that way.
I assume most people know what the inscription means "Greatest Play that never happened". he said something about that play that I had never heard before. It is such a trick play that they had attempted it (unsuccessfully) earlier in the game and no one ever noticed!

I will be doing a post sometime in the next few days with what my plans are for November. It may end up being one of my better months as for as quantity goes. Have a convention in town plus a event at soldier field.
cool and good luck with more....what is the best play that never happened? Do you mean the kickoff return that was called back?
Today's update is another Bears player. This time Gabe Carimi. He was signing at the same place where Bennett was yesterday. I did not have him sign the Bears vinyl because my wife is going to a Ladies Night thing where Carimi will be and I didn't want to make it more difficult by having to tell her not to get certain players. Now she can get anyone who will be there on it without worried of me already having them.
I am hoping to also meet Israel Idonije and Matt Forte in the upcoming days, but we will see how my work schedule is. I might end up missing one or both.
I figured if I was only going to get a 8x10 signed I might as well as for an inscription.
So tonight was an update I wasn't planning on having. Khalil Bell was scheduled to sign at a Walmart and I don't need anymore of him. But at the last minute it he was replaced by Nick Roach. That is one I could use.
Drove 45 min each way and was there for a total of 5 minutes. Left with 3 things, 2 for me and that football for the students that I had Carimi and Bennett sign.
Before the pics here is a quick and not complete list of what I have coming up this month
Jim McMahon
Barry Sanders
Phil Esposito
Matt Foret
Isreal Idonije
Roy Williams
Amboi Okoye
Brandon Merriweather
Denis Savard
John Scott
Kellen Davis
....and more
And Tonight's pics.

Quick update tonight. I went to meet Israel Idonije tonight with my kids and their nanny. He was very nice, gave my girls high 5's and they got a balloon from him even though they weren't giving them out. lol
I only took 1 pic of him due to having my hands full with the kids.
I'm so jealous of all these Chicago signings. Cleveland needs to step its game up.
very sweet adds
Awesome adds! I wish I could get Espy for free. I need him for my 500 goals signed puck collection. Not sure if he signs ttm though.
Good luck!
Mike
Unfortunatley I have to pay for his....$40 at the Mounted Memories Convention
Here is an update after a few days of no updates. I knew off the bat this one would be crowded and if it was up to me I would have been there at noon for the 6pm signing. It was for Bears Superstar Matt Forte. I arrived there at around 3:30 and was #101 in line when they counted them off. They cut the line at 500 people and sent at least a couple hundred home. Keep in mind that maybe a third of this line was outside in 45 degree rainy cold wet weather. Luckily I was inside!
My dad was supposed to meet me there and he was going to get my Bears Vinyl signed and I was going to get the large 18x24 poster print. However my Dad got called into work so it was just me.
I had a post-it note on the photo hoping for an inscription (didn't expect it) however when I got up to the table the jerk of a guy who worked for the Bears yanked my post-it note off the photo and said he didn't have time for it. I understood I couldn't get it but that was not the way to go about it. When that happened Matt was also signing the photo so I had to be quick to get a pic and the end result you will see below, a headless Matt Forte! Doh!
Not sure what my next update will be. There is Denis Savard tomorrow but I don't think I am going and then there is 4 guys from the '85 Bears team on Saturday but I haven't decided on that one either since it is not free.
The picture doesn't do the signature justice. While is is slop of an autograph the silver paint really shines from the print. Still debating if I should have used black however. Oh well.
Awesome update!
Looks great.
Mike
I think its a nice auto! Congrats!
Justin
Tonight's update is a perfect one to follow up yesterday's huge shellacking by the Monsters of the Midway Bears against Lions. One if the star's from yesterday's game was Charles Tillman who did an amazing job at containing Megatron.
I had a feeling the line would be heavy so I got there around 3:30 for a 6pm signing. It was at a Walgreens. Next door was a Jewel grocery store and there was Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett. They were hosting a coat drive. If you brought a coat you got to meet them. Believe it or not I didn't have anything for them to sign and I wasn't really up for going out and getting something so I decided not to do that one and just stick with Tillman. I ended up being 10th or so in line.
Once the signing started I went up there and thanked him for donating the tickets that I won in the Make A Wish Foundation raffle. He said no problem and signed my item. They were moving the line very quick do to about 300 or so people. I had a buddy with me who got my board signed as well.
Two Tillman autos the day after a huge divisional win in which he had a pick 6 is a good day I would say!
Before I post the pics I should say that in the next few days I should have some good updates. Mikel Leshoure on friday and then the Mounted Memories Convention on Saturday and Sunday. I can't wait to get Barry Sanders!
Oh yeah, and my wife is going to a Ladies Night Football 101 tomorrow at Soldier Field! 10 people signing, Roy Williams, Okoye, Merriweather, Conte, Thayer... can't wait to see what she comes home with lol I gave her instructions!

Great sig. That poster is awesome.
Just got an update from the wifey at LADIES NIGHT at soldier field where she said there are tons of guys there.... this might not turn out well. Odds are she gets pushed to the back... she is a she timid type. grrrrr.
I told her to complain because this was clearly advertised as women only.
Just got off the phone with my wife. She called with good news and bad news. Good news is she is having a great time and said she got tons of autographs and got a private meet and greet with Tom Thayer!!
Bad news is she said Gabe Carimi was rude to her and signed my vinyl in black when she asked for blue. Now he is the only black one on there. I guess I will have to start trying to even it out some with more black
Also I cancelled my ticket to meet Floyd Mayweather. I'd rather get 2 autos from Devin Hester for the same price. Thanks mom!!!
Ok so this is the mother load of updates. It will more than likely spill into at least 3-4 post due to the amount of pictures.
Last night the Bears ran an event called Football 101. It is an event for women to get to know the sport and the players a little better and it is held at Soldier Field. First you get there, have some adult beverages eat some food and then they start the autographs. After that you take a tour of the locker room followed by a film session where the players breakdown the plays and explain why the did what they did and when they did it.
The players on hand this year were scheduled to be Henry Melton, Brandon Meriweather, Roy Williams, Amobi Okoye and the entire Bears rookie class which is over 12 people or so.
Roy Williams was a no show so basically the only people I did not get were Melton and Okoye which is fine I am happy with the amount that I did get! Tom Thayer from the '85 Bears was one of the host. He was not scheduled to sign but when my wife showed the security guard the program I gave her to get signed with alll the other autos they brought he back to where Thayer was eating and she got a personal private meet and greet with him and her friends.
I will update this thread another time with the pictures of the players and the event. I have not received them yet from my wife friend that she went with.
The first pic is what I went through for well over an hour trying to find all the new autos and make out who they were. There were some players who signed it who were not listed on the program as scheduled to be there and considering they are mostly rookies that made it quite hard. Lastly, Carimi signed it in black and is the only player, luckily it is a lighter black and you don't really even notice.
The players are: Stephen Paea, Ricky Henry, Nathan Enderle, Mario Addison, Kyle Adams, JT Thomas, Jordan Miller, Jabara Williams, Gabe Carimi, Draylen Ross, Dom Decicco, Dane Sazenbacher, Chris Conte, Brandon Meriweather, Armando Allen, Anthony Walters, and Andre Smith.
Today will be the first day in what should be at least 3-4 consecutive days. Tomorrow I am aiming for Mikel Leshoure. Tonight I went to a Barnes and Noble bookstore by my house where Stan Mikita was signing copies of his new book.
Since Stan announced that he had cancer he has not done any signings or public appearances that were not directly Blackhawk related or related to this book. You use to see him around every other month or so.
Anyway it wasn't a bad deal for one of the best hockey players ever to play the game. Buy the book get it signed for free. The book only cost $26 and as you can see it is a quality book.
I will get around to uploading the pictures of the players from my previous post sometime soon. There was a lot to go through.
Awesome successes. I do like how the Bears are active with their fan base. That is something The Jets need to learn from, I think.
Mike
Here is tonight's update as promised. Lions Rookie Mikel Leshoure who is a local kid. I'll be darned if I am going to have any Lions stuff in my house so I picked up 2 8x10's and 1 11x14.
He arrived a little late but was very nice. I told him I was looking forward to seeing him on the field except when they are playing the Bears. He laughed and said the Lions owe the Bears one from last week but that he thought the Bears were playing great. I made sure to remind him that the beating the Lions got was payback from the Monday Night Game earlier in the year which he laughed.
Tomorrow I will be at the Mounted Memories convention so I should have some updates from that.
I took 213 pictures today at the Mounted Memories Convention, I am just going to post all the updates at once either tomorrow or Monday.
But so far I have gotten autographs from:
Barry Sanders
Ted Lindsay
Toni Kukoc
Eric Nesterenko
Brother...you are hard core and I love it. Even if it is Bears stuff....
Waiting to see Sanzy in some Bears stuff, yet it will cause me great pain to own it...
I am going to do the Convention update in a couple parts. I am going to start off with Saturday. It will first be the pictures I took of players NOT signing my items, followed by pics of my items signed and lastly, the items themselves.
Nothing too exciting to share, it was a great time and all the players I ran into or had tickets for were very nice. I did not meet a single rude person.
Players I did not get autographs from (not all rest shown in bucket):
Jake Lamotta
Willie Mays
Gordie Howe
Oscar Robertson
Reggie Jackson
Players I met:
Toni Kukoc
Barry Sanders
Ted Lindsay
Eric Nesterenko
My Items from Saturday:
Hawks 11x14 (going to be my Hawks Multi-Player any generation piece)
Toni Kukoc Signed Ball 72-10 and 3-Peat Inscriptions PSA Authenticated
Barry Sanders added to Heisman Photo 12 Signatures
Ted Lindsay Blackhawks Board (Any HOF'er who played at some points for CHI)
4 Signatures
Sunday Update:
As you can see I didn't go too crazy at this convention as far as who I had sign for me. My main focus was collection and project based. The Kukoc was the only single signed item for the weekend.
This was a slower day for me, only had tickets to get 2 players on my blackhawks board. I took a few more pics of random players who I saw while standing in my lines.
A friend of mine went through the Ernie Banks, Greg Maddux and Ryne Sandburg lines. If he sends me the pics I will post them. He spent near $1000 on Maddux with 2 signatures and god knows how many inscriptions.
Also is a DVD a friend of mine got signed for my wife. My wife really couldn't care any less about autographs but she does love the Twilight books and movies. My friend is a bar owner and Daniel Cudmore came in a couple nights in a row so he got that signed for her.
Players I did not get autographs from:
Bobby Knight
Jerry Lucas
John Smoltz
Tony Larussa
Players Signing my Items:
Phil Esposito
Michel Goulet
My items from Sunday:
Michel Goulet
Phil Esposito
6 HOF Signatures (Mikita should be next early Dec)
Daniel Cudmore Signed Twilight DVD
Great adds this weekend. Wish I knew Jerry Lucas was going to be there. I would have paid for you to get something signed for me. Need him for the Knicks PC.
Love how the 'Hawks HOF board is coming. Espy didn't look to happy in that pic you took, lol. I was able to get Goulet to sign a 'Hawks puck ttm for my 500 goal scorer's collection.
Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Mike
Sure, let me see if I can find it at home.
Btw, how are you displaying all your stuff? Any ideas on how your going to display the boards once you have them all signed?
Mike
How do I display? Haha it goes into a big walk in closet that is just about completely full and doesn't see daylight again.
I have a 2 bedroom house with twin 3 year old girls. I think it safest there right now haha. They know the closet is off limits and close the door anytime I leave it open
I plan on having them mounted and framed with some matting
Great adds man love seeing this stuff.
Today starts off what I hope to be a busy week as far as updates go. Each Sunday when the Bears play they broadcast the post game show from various bars. This week it was near my house. Former Bears players Doug Buffone and Ed O'Bradovich are the host. They are a blast to listen to because they call it how they see it and don't hold back. After a bad loss like today I knew it would be fun. Make sure to check out the video!

Like always great adds.
Tonight's update, Bears Center Roberto Garza. Line was about 60 people, outside FREEZING about 35* or so for an hour and a half. He would sign as many items as you brought, I brought 2.
Tomorrow should be Kellen Davis from the Bears, he is doing some radio show at the hooters next to my office.
Edit: I forgot to add that my buddy won tickets for the Kanye West/Jay-Z concert at the United Center on Wednesday while there as well lol.

That poster is getting more and more awesome.. Guessing you'll be framing it when there's no more room on it?
Another day another update. I might have 1 more this week but on saturday I have plans to stop at 4 locations for 5 different people... stay tuned.
Tonight was Bears TE Kellen Davis who was doing a radio broadcast at the local hooters. I was quite a bit more crowded than I expected but I was still able to get my 3 items signed!
The lighting there wasnt very good so my pics turned out not that great. Someone took some for me while I was getting my stuff signed and most of them came out blurry.

Mike
This update will cover the last two days but there is a twist.
I had some family things I had to do yesterday so I was not able to go to any of the signings, and there was plenty. Luckily I knew 2 people going to 2 different signings. My friend Mike was going to meet Brian Bickell and my friend Maureen who is also my kids nanny was going to John Scott.
I gave Mike my Stanley Cup Blackhawks book to have Bickell sign and told him I would get him Mike Richardson from the '85 Bears on saturday. I then gave Maureen the 11x14 multi signed photo I started a week or so ago. I forgot to take pics of the 11x14 so I will upload that another day.
Now the real highlight comes from todays signing. It was free and it was Patrick Sharp from the hawks. I was about 18th in line when I tried to count. Waited 4.5 hours in 38* weather but no worries I had the long johns on! hah
One interesting thing to look at is the first post in this thread has this same book in it. It has come a little way since I started this in March.
Here are the pics:

Not a big Hockey guy but great adds.
This won't be a very long update. It was a long day and I am beat. I did manage to score autographs from Alex Brown, Tom Lysiak and Mike Richardson.
When I say it was a busy day that is an understatement. There was even more going on but I passed on them and went for the ones that wouldnt be as crowded.

The Program looks like poop and is all beat up. I have a mint condition one but didn't want to dig it out at 8am this morning from the back of my closet. Alex Brown just signed with Jewel so he will be around so you will see another update with another program sooner or later.
Awesome successes. Thanks for sharing!
Mike
Tonight's update is a big one. It was a charity event for the troops and Devin Hester was the main guest. My brother is a Marine and has received multiple purple hearts amongst other awards so I have no problem donating a few dollars to help a good cause. The Hester autograph is just a bonus. The jersey came with the donation.
Tomorrow will be another Mikita update, however this is the first time I am paying to meet him. Not too happy at the cost but it is the only way I can get the inscription for my HOF board.
Mikita update:
Like I mentioned before I wasn't big on the idea of paying for an autograph i have and can receive for free. However I can never get the HOF inscription for free so that is why I paid. That along with Mikita's health situation, let's be honest, who knows how long he will be with us. Due to his health he will no longer shake anyone's hand and limits appearances to 90 minutes. He constantly is complaining he doesn't feel well.
As is being usual with athletes Stan wore a hat to this appearance. Hey, I wear a hat every day, however when I take pics of them signing it makes it near impossible to get a pic of their face. So you end up with pics like below lol.

Great updates! That Hester looks sweet and the HOF board is coming out awesome.
If I can ask, what was Mikita's price?
Mike
Could be worse. Broduer isn't a HOF'er yet and they charge 100.00 for him here.
Mike
For tonights update you will need to refer to my other thread.
I normally update them here except when the update contains the Super Bowl XX Program which is the entire update.
The link can be found here:

This mornings update is actually going to be from last night. I was too tired to get on here and post an update. I will have another update late this afternoon as well when I go meet Reggie Phillips from the '85 Bears.
I didn't really have anything going on after work so I figured I would take the ride to go meet Fuzzy Zoeller. I will be honest, I know nothing about golf but figured why the heck not.
While I was at Fuzzy a friend of mine was at Steve McMichael and Kevin Butler. I had given him an extra copy of a super bowl xx program so he had both of them sign it and Otis Wilson the day before. So that is a nice extra piece I have now.
Fuzzy didn't seem to thrilled I brought in an outside item to get signed, I think he was only planning on signing the Vodka bottle so I did not take pictures of him signing the photo, I kinda figured that I should give him his space lol.
Regardless I am happy with what I have. Not sure what I will do with this bottle but nevertheless it is a neat lookin bottle.
I dont have my items back from the McMichael and Butler so I will only post the pics of them signing the program that my friend texted me.
This last item was a gift from the nanny who watches my kids. She knew I wanted to go to this signing but due to scheduling I was not able to. She did attend with her father however.
Frank Thomas Big Hurt Beer
Well I do not have time to post today's update. I am running out of the house to a Xmas party. I will post up the pics tomorrow. 3 Reggie Phillips autographs, 1 Kurt Becker, 1 Johnny Lattner, 3 Steve McMichael, 3 Keith Van Horne, 2 Jay Hilgenberg and 2 Kevin Butler. All IP autographs.
Safe to say today was a good day.
Great updates man. The bottles must look cool.

I have a feeling I am forgetting and item or a picture so I reserve the right to update this at a later time lol.
I went and met Fergie Jenkins tonight at a local mall. Richard Dent was also there signing for a steep fee. I only took 1 pic of Dent because to be honest I kind of felt like a creep just taking pictures.
So when I get to the mall I was walking into the store where the signings were at and notice Fergie walking out. I must have had a confused look on my face because someone came up to me right away and said he would be right back. About 15-20 minutes later Fergie came back with a GNC bag. He said he had to go get his vitamins. I had my Cubs board along with the $20 donation for JDRF in my hand.
Fergie called me over and asked me if I wanted my item signed. I told him I did and that I was amazed by 1 particular item he had on his table. It was a Fergie Jenkins Way Street Sign that is about 3-4' long. He had signed it along with HOF in the middle but from left to right it had 15 other inscriptions besides the HOF. He told me if I liked it so much I should buy it. Fergie said $75 and immediately knew I would be leaving with the item. I countered with $75 for the street sign and the additional signature and HOF inscription on my cubs board. Keep in mind this is going 100% to JDRF. The two guys who were with Fergie at the table kept telling him $10 plus the $20 for the Board. I simply told them that I liked Fergie's price much better. After all it was the last 2 hours of them being at the store for a week straight. I am sure they wanted to get rid of stuff.
Anyway I think this is the longest post I have written without pictures so that means I need to post them.
Here they are:

That sign is awesome. My wife loves it at 2 times what you paid.
Very cool street sign.
First update of the new year and first update in quite some time for me. Tonight was one of the regular's on the signing circuit. Dave Bolland. He has been a part of as many updates in this thread as just about anyone.
I did manage to get two items signed tonight but I had actually brought 6 with me! I came into a disc of photos of just about any and every blackhawks player. Some of the photos may never have been seen before. For example I have quite a few from when Dave Bolland was only 15 or so playing Jr's in Canada. So long story short when it comes to my hockey signatures you guys may be seeing some cool photos here shortly. I got one today directly from Bobby Hull's agent and I am going to have Dennis Hull sign it next week and then give it back to the agent for Bobby to sign. I won't post it up until one of them has signed it though.
Due to me having so many items with me tonight my buddy took some pics with his cell phone. The lighting wasn't the best so the pics aren't the best but they get the job done!
On the 16x20 I played dumb and asked him what the trophy was he was holding even though I already knew. When he said it was the Junior's World Championship I said that's cool and asked him if he could write that on there. He said no problem and then stopped and said he couldn't remember which year it was and asked if he wrote "WJC" instead if that would be ok. I told him no problem!
on the 11x14 he got a kick out of. As soon as he saw it he said wow that is an old one. I brought it in closer to him behind the table and showed him his bushy hair sticking out the back of his helmet and asked what was up with that. He let out a nice laugh and said that he use to rock the longer hair.
16x20 "WJC" Inscription
11x14 check out how young he is! and look at all his hair!
Very cool. Love when the players love the Photos.
Great story and pics. Thanks for sharing.

Tonight's update is a great one but won't be too long because I am tired.
Former Bears Alex Brown and Desmond Clark host a webcast or something like that. I have never heard of them bringing in guest before but this time I saw on Alex's facebook page that Brian Urlacher and Charles Tillman would be there. A free Urlacher autograph! I am there!
Easier said than done! He was there for 45 minutes. 30 of which he was on the radio show. Peanut showed up 20 minutes late so only did the show for 10 minutes and then they both signed for 15 minutes. Once their show started a line stared to form. Well I guess they didn't like the line we had because they moved Brian and Charles to the middle of the restaurant where everyone rushed them and there was no line order. Hold your item up and hope it is grabbed. I typically avoid these type of events.
Well my luck there was only 1 person between me and Brian and when that person got their item signed they moved to the side so I had a clear path. I handed him my photo and attempted to hand him a silver marker. He told me he didn't need it and signed my photo in black. At least he signed it in an area where the black can be seen. I think I was the only person there with a 16x20 so imagine fighting through a crowd holding this in the air so it doesn't get bent. That is why I did not get pics of them signing the items.
I also had Dez sign my vinyl. I did not have anything for Alex Brown unfortunately.

nice job man. I am friends with Dez Clark to we are trying to get him to do an interview for the sports site I write for.
Here is an updated I wasn't planning on originally. I have met Niklas Hjalmarsson multiple times and never had to pay for him. However I did not have him on my team signed stanley cup book so I gave in and paid the $30. For that reason and the fact that he could very likely be traded here in the upcoming days and weeks. Gotta get him while I can.
It was PACKED, I know they sold over 300 tickets.
Here are the pics.

Nice Urlacher. Would love to get his auto.
nice story on the urlacher..
Doug Buffone Man .. I worshipped that guy back in the early days of walter Paytons career.. back when avellini was the QB and such..
Horrible team.. decent player
By the way I love the National anthem shot of Kane, toews and company. Id imagine that one will end up costing you a pretty penny by the time Kane , toews and Keith sign it!
Nic job on getting Urlacher.
I like the way the book is coming out. My question is how are you planning on displaying it? My buddy is working on the Mets 50th anniversery book, but he's having players sign their page. He claims he's not looking to display it, just gives him a cool piece to work on.
Mike
It has been about a week or so since my last update. I am on my way out of the house for a fundraiser so this will be brief.
I will be posting another update in a couple days about the Cubs Convention. I was not able to go due to the fundraiser I mentioned but my friend has been cleaning house with some of my items. He got me 10 autographs the day before the Convention even started. Chris Volstad even said I was his first autograph as a Cubs player.
Anyway, today's update is former Bulls center and 3 time NBA Champion and current Bulls Radio broadcaster Bill Wennington. He was at a Dunkin Doughnuts with the other Radio personality Chuck Swirsky to celebrate the opening of the 500th chicagoland store.
Very nice add.
Time for another update. Once again I need to apologize for the quality of the pics ahead of time. It was a dimly lit bar and I had my cell and had to try to get 4 items signed. Thus limited pics and blurry! Doh!
Anyway, Markus Kruger and Viktor Stalberg were signing tonight at a bar/otb. It was two signatures from each of them. I had them each sign a puck along with a 11x14 photo. I didn't have many photos to choose from for Stalberg and ended up seeing just about half the people there with the same photo. But at least mine was bigger! haha For Kruger I picked an old photo from when he played for DIF in Sweden. When I gave it to him he immediately smiled and tapped Stalberg to show him. I asked him to inscribed his team name hoping for the full name but there was a little bit of a language barrier so he signed "DIF" which works for me.
Also, I did manage to add over 20 Cubs autographs this weekend due to the Cubs Convention. I was not able to attend but a friend brought a few items for me. I just got them back tonight and will upload those pics when I get a chance. But 20 people were added to my Cubs board alone!

With the photos, do you buy or have them printed? Where do you print them off and how much do pay for the photos.
Love the Bulls panaroma pic.

sweet updates
how about a teaser update?
I met 4 Bears players tonight, Alex Borwn, Dex Clark, Adam Polesch and former Bear and current Lion Rashied Davis.
BUT...... I am off to bed. I will post pics tomorrow. Hopefully will post the Cubs convention stuff too.
Next one is Murray Bannerman on Saturday.
nice did you go to sox fest or are you going
