BGS 9.5 Ray Allen Finest RC Refractor. Only 2 exist at a BGS 9.5.
Would only want higher end autos in all sports. Would do cash/trade deals.
PLMK if interested.

But I am curious: what kind of BV are you putting on the Allen? Normal books $40, 9s book $55. I'd imagine $65?

The other 9.5 sold for 252.00 in January. People know the value of condition sensitive cards from the late 90's. I am guessing you dont do much with graded cards. a 9.5 BGS or PSA10 are often 10x the hi book value on the card. Rarity o the card plays a factor as well.

Anyone that does graded and knows the value of this woudnt have a problem giving up autos for it. Its going to have to be someone that either wants it for a PC type thing or someone that wants to turn it over. Regardless, this wont be tough to move for autos. Might not be vlaue for value, but it would be close.

iv gotta totally disagree with u there. high end autos are way better than a graded parellel rc. espically wen its only ray allen. he is a good player but his rc is no where near worth a $100+ auto (high end) i would think ur gonna have a hard time movin it at the value ur holdin it at

Way better according to whom? You?
Look at ANY high end auto and then look at a high graded RC' EVERY SINGLE TIME the graded will be worth more. Not sometimes...EVERY TIME.
I will do 4 major sports for you just to prove it:

Jordan's best auto might sell for 4-5k. The BGS 9.5 RC's bring 11-12k.

Brett Favre's best auto (single signed) might sell for 500. BGS 9.5 Finest RC has sold for 3500.00

Mickey Mantle Cut Auto 1/1 sold for 8800.00 PSA7 RC sold for 14k

Gretzky Auto I saw (Auto/NHL Shield) sold for 7500.00. BGS 9.5 Gretzky RC sold for 19k (I think theres only about 8 of them

As you can see, high graded RC's will outsell a hi end auto EVERY TIME. Its tough with current players as many of their RC's are autographed already and you cant compare it in those terms.

The market shows that a hi graded RC will outsell an auto regularly. The brand factors in to this as well as does the age of the card. When looking at things reasonably and in relative terms (year vs year, brand vs brand, etc) the autos lose. they are definitely more collectible, but value wise, autos lose.

youre looking at this from the wrong angle. It doesnt matter WHO it is. A player's best auto will not outsell his best RC graded at a BGS 9.5 The problem with current players is that the player's best auto usually IS his best RC. I was using older players because they didnt have autographed RC's.

Understand now?

With the hi end product now, it also makes it tough as cards form brands like exquisite are automatically more valuable, but Grading ADDS value to cards.

My comment is made from the perspective of someone that has dealt in graded cards since they became widely available. I see that there are too many variables to accurately and fairly prove my point or disprive anyone elses. Too many RC's today are autod. Its obvious that someones auto will sell for less than that same auto in a high grade. Thats just how it works.

My my own point of view, I prefer the autos as seen in my HOFer Auto Collection. I am looking for those that are buying and collecting the graded as the investment that they are. Like any other investment, they have the chance of rising or dropping, but time has shown that graded cards tend to hold value longer than ungraded.

I welcome more of your opinions.
Tom

I got an interesting insight from a friend about this...as the player becomes more and more average, the closer the value of a graded RC and an auto are.

Oh, believe me, I know about graded cards. And I find it extremely hard to believe the other 9.5 sold for that much. Not saying you're lying to me, but it's just hard to believe.

And I've seen a BGS9.5 Kobe Chrome RCs sell for much less than some of his autos. And I understand rarity plays a factor, but so does the player (which I'll get to soon).

I think it does matter who it is. I don't think a Dennis Rodman RC graded BGS9.5 would sell more than any of his autos. Same can be said for Stockton, Pippen and so on. Now, Ray Allen is a good player, but despite the rarity of a 9.5 grade, I still don't think you'll be able to net a high-end auto. All of the players you mentioned are legends, Ray Allen isn't and will never be.

On a related note, I bought a BGS9.5 Gary Payton RC for $15. I've paid upward to $100 for a Payton auto. Doesn't even out in my book.

The fact is that those finest refractors are notorious for having surface problems like waves, pits, dots, etc. Its a rare find to get one of the refractors that are gem all the way around. Again, as I said, people into graded cards know about the rarity of a piece and tend to buy based on a collectibility factor.

I appreciate your insight though.
