I am thinking of asking for a Bass or Electric Guitar for Christmas. I have absolutely no experience with any type of guitar, but I would like to learn how to play on of these, I haven't decided yet.

What is a nice and good for beginners, but affordable guitar(s) that I can look at and possibly choose?

Thanks!

I have a similar Telecaster that I've had for 15 years. I really hate it now, but for a beginner guitar, it's great for the price!

if you want cheap but good you are going to want to look at Epiphone and Squier these are the low end models of Fender and Gibson if you get an Epiphone there is not much difference from a Gibson just not made in the US

Where you are just starting out, and maybe not sure you will play the thing for a long time, then definitely go with the Squire, it is a sister to the Fender brand. If you learn Guitar, then Bass will be like second nature, so start there. I started with Bass cause it was "easy", then I had to learn the guitar, always wish I would have started with the guitar.

I am mainly looking to collect Dallas Cowboys Rc's/Patches/Auto's of players I don't have, Steve Young Patch's/Multi color GU or Auto's, Quinton Ganther GU or Auto's, Utah Jazz Stars Auto's or Patches/multi color, Dale Murphy Auto's or Patches/Multi color only, and Eric Davis Auto's or Patches/Multi color only. I also will look for Star players, or retired star players/HOFers that catch my eye, and LA Dodgers from 1950-1970 Auto's and GU for a project for my Dad.

When I first started playing I got one of the Squier (made by Fender) combo packs. It came with the Stratocaster, small amp, tuner, picks, strap, and a gig bag. For the price, you can't beat it. I would recommend you get something similar to that starting out just to make sure it's going to be something you remain interested in, then spend the big money for something better if it's something you enjoy.

Here is a link to musician's friend value packs. The "Fender SE Special Strat with Squier SP-10 Amp Value Pack" actually looks similar to what I have.
