Welcome back gang. Last month, despite the millions of base cards, we actually came out slightly under budget after the shipping/supplies were factored in. So I bought some extra supplies and we shouldn't need any at all this month.
Which means we're looking at a budget of $340 assuming we sell all 15 spots again. Not bad at all
Paypal payments of $26 due by November 15th. I am out of town from November 20-27th, so depending on people's thanksgiving plans, we can break sometime beginning the 28th.

The poll:
The issue is, when we have a card with multiple players on multiple teams, how should we divide them up.
For starters, we will no longer use random.org to decide these. Instead, names will be added to a hat. If I have a chance in the hat, I will ask a different member to do the randomization however they are able.
Next question though, should purchased teams (presumably the teams we are fans of) have priority over drafted teams?
If we have a Crosby-Gretzky dual jersey but no one bought the Oilers, what do we do?
Do we automatically give it to the Penguins owner because they actually paid for their team?
Or do we give both people an equal shot regardless of the fact that the Oilers were not purchased?
To get slightly more complicated and imagine an Ovechkin-Malkin-Kovalchuk card, I believe we would give you 1 chance for each of the players you "own" so if we give priority to purchased teams, it'd be a 50/50 shot between Ovechkin and Malkin. If not, it's a 33/33/33 shot for each owner. And if the Penguins owner happened to draft Atlanta, it'd be a 33/67 shot.
Please weigh in. With artifacts being a new product this month, we are quite likely to have a dual jersey (or more) and we need to have an agreeable solution before that

And one last note on boxes:
Artifacts 09/10 is already out. I saw it for $80 at the show today, could be anywhere from 70-90 by the time we order. I'd say we have to do one since it's new.
UD Series 1 for 09/10 releases 11/10, so we should also be able to do a box of that. It's around $60 on pre-sell, possibly could hit 70 by the time we break.
So that leaves us around $180-$200 for the rest of our boxes, if anyone is feeling intrepid enough to put together some suggestions. As always, the best suggestions will have a good mix of years and hits.

Also, one last thing:
Last month the OPC box had some cards without teams, namely the Canadian National Women's Hockey Team inserts. Since these aren't a big deal, i just randomed them and was done with it.
This month, there are a whole bunch of "Clearly Canadian" inserts in Series 1 hockey, which won't have teams. There are also Gretzky all-star jersey cards where he won't be pictured with a team. Since these are case hits, I'd like to propose that these be randomed among the whole group.
I recognize that it'd be very easy to send a Bobby Orr clearly Canadian card to the Bruins owner and be done. But on the flip side, it'd be a pain to random gretzky among 4 teams (should the Blues owner really get an equal shot with the Rangers, Oilers, and Kings, etc.)
So if we can agree that cards for players pictured without a team simply get randomed among the group, I think that would simplify things greatly.

Anyway, I've got lots of ideas so i'm just going to keep shooting them out there.
December is going to be a royal pain to have a club break. There's Christmas budget issues for some guys, crazy party schedules for others, and it'd be a madhouse at the post office to boot.
I will be in town during December and would be happy to host a break. We could open stuff between Christmas and New Years and that would remove the shipping mess.
But, if folks are worried about budgets or think it'd be too hard to get a decent-sized group together to watch a break, I would also be happy to organize a secret santa. Everyone could put their name in (not limited to 15 spots) name their favorite team(s) (Brian could finally get some Penguins) and each member would get one name to mail one package to.
If folks want to do a normal break, we can wait till december to get organized. But if y'all want to do a Secret Santa, we should start organizing that soon so no one is stuck at the post office in the middle of december. Plus, we'll have time to hit up a show or ebay auction to put together a nice package.

QUOTE(Tromni @ Oct 31 2009, 11:25 AM) I recognize that it'd be very easy to send a Bobby Orr clearly Canadian card to the Bruins owner and be done. Honestly in this case I would go with the team the player is most recognized as playing for. Gretzky in my mind would be Oilers since that is how he is most remembered. I see the other side of this as well, but Gretzky never accomplished as much with his later teams as his former team which is what he will be remembered most for. Similarly Orr was a Bruin his whole career, that in my mind would designate that card to the Bruins owner. Random is fine, it just stinks for someone who owns a team like the Bruins, or others that would have this hit be from their team. PS I am in this month.

QUOTE(maple19 @ Nov 1 2009, 10:13 PM) I always though it went by the jersey and team on the card Say Gretzky LA Kings it should go to the person holding the kings not Oilers mike I think it is the team name listed not jersey pictured, but I could be wrong. I think we had a Satan jersey pictured as an Isle that went to Bob in the SPGU product, because it was noted Pens. The comment above was referring to the Clearly Canadian inserts in UD S1 and what I am saying is a player like Gretzky pictured with "Team Canada" and noted as "Team Canada" should go to the team the player is most recognized for, so in this case, Gretzky to me is most recognized as an Oiler. Either that or random it between the four holders of: Blues, Oilers, Rangers, Kings. That as Tromni noted would be somewhat unfair as he was on the Blues for 2-3 months? Not sure, and who knows if we will even pull one of those.

We have always done the team listed and not the team pictured. And yes, that's why the Miro Satan card went to the Penguins and not the Islanders this month.
I'm personally very opposed to the whole "whoever they're most identified with" idea. Does Patrick Roy go to the Avs or the Habs, he won two cups with each? How about Al Macinnis, a Cup in Calgary but a Norris in St. Louis?
To me, there are only two possible solutions:
1 - random among all teams that the player played for. Sure, it's weird that the Blues end up with an equal shot at Gretzky, or that the Blackhawks get a shot at Bobby Orr, but this gives the owners of the player's major teams a much better shot at getting them. And as always, members are free to make their own decisions when they're involved, so if the Blues guy wants to send Al Macinnis cards to the Calgary owner, then that makes things really easy.
2 - random among every member, which has been our usual policy with regard to players pictured without teams (such as a Tretiak card from BTP)

I am fine with Random, I just think it is unfair for guys who played 90% of their career for one team as in your Orr example, but that is fine. I think #2 above should only be instituted if a guy has no NHL team (or previously existing NHL team) like Tretiak, otherwise the random should only be to the NHL teams involved.

I have always been fine with whatever the player is listed on the card. I mean, as a team collector, if say I have a Scott Gomez auto and he's pictured as a Devil, but it says New York Rangers, then its a Ranger card to me.
