QUEBEC CITY, Quebec -- The mayor of Quebec City has spoken with the NHL about the possible return of the Nordiques to the NHL.

Mayor Regis Labeaume said Saturday he met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman along with former Nordiques owner Marcel Aubut. The mayor adds that the talks in New York on Friday were "very profitable, very worthwhile."

Bettman said this month he would consider Quebec City as a possible home to an NHL team if it followed through on plans to build a top arena and if a team were for sale. The Nordiques were sold in 1995 and moved to Denver as the Colorado Avalanche.

This has brought up some interesting questions regarding the retired jersey numbers from the last episode of Les Nordiques...

There was even some issue of returning the records perhaps, which I think is folly since the franchise moved, and thus it would be a whole new franchise.

Will be interesting to see...

Quebec was always my favorite team after the Capitals. I followed them to Colorado though and made the Avs my second choice team, but I'd more than welcome back their powder blue unis!

I saw the Seals play the North Stars when I was a kid living in the Bay Area (I was 9 or 10 then
